Finally tried Chapli & Chips and I was not disappointed. The food took about 10 minutes to be prepared. I am glad they cook the kebabs upon order ensuring the food it fresh and hot, which it was. The beef chapali kebabs are plentiful, well seasoned, so much flavor. The brown rice is aromatic and soft. The French fries were a nice side along with the fresh shirazi salad. I got the white sauce, green sauce and hot sauce. I enjoyed this very delicious platter. It is much different compared to other halal carts, I definitely recommend it.

Wow - one word to capture this place: FRESH! This place is getting some well-deserved hype and I was very happy with everything in terms of flavor, service, texture, price point! BEEF CHAPLI PLATTER Gotta mention how freshly fried these french fries are and even though they are doused with sauce, still maintain a good, nice, crisp and potatoey texture. I did wait only 10 mins before digging in. If you wait longer that may not be the case. These large beef chapli are hearty, flavorful and for those unfamiliar kind of give me smash-burger vibes but better seasoned and not as rich/fatty so you won't feel like a mess after. The sauces pair amazingly well, the rice is fluffy and good quality. I was a very happy boy eating here and would totally eat here again . The owner was chatting up the customers and cleaning the truck while people were waiting in line and was super personable and friendly. You can really tell he cares about the business. After ordering it took no more than 5 minutes to get our food on a weekday around 1230 pm. I wish this place all the success.

Beef Chapli platter $12

This food truck has well seasoned chapli kabobs. I ordered the beef, but I think the chicken chapli was better. For only $12, you can get a platter with salad, Afghani rice, 2 chapli patties, fries, and very thin bread. I would prefer if they gave naan, instead of the thin slices they provided. You can also choose 3 sauces. I highly recommend the hot sauce (if you like spicy) & their signature kicker sauce. The service was excellent. We got our food in a timely manner and the guy even gave us extra sauces on the side. I would suggest eating this right away as the fries do become soggy for all the sauce.

The food is fresh and taste yummyy! Workers were friendly! The only issue would be sometimes parking, so if you're in a rush just park across the street.

I so happened to be in the area and had the pleasure of trying out the beef Chapli platter. You can choose up to three sauces and boy do they have a lot. They put alot on top and also have the option of having some on the side. The bright pink orange sauce (the kicker) is tangy and lemony and personally don't really enjoy that kinda flavor but on the platter it was good. Their sweet chilli is really good and you can't go wrong with white sauce. Everything is made to order and thus takes about ten min to prepare. The fries are cut by a machine in the cart and depending on the day can be crispy or floppy. Personally, I don't mind either so you never know what you'll get. They were featured as one of NYTIMES best restaurants of 2021 which I think is absolutely deserved given the quality, portion, and variety of items you receive in a platter. It's a melding of both Pakistani and Afghan style chapli kababs which I think is so special. Don't forget cash! They're cash only!

Combo Platter (w/ white sauce and kicker sauce)

DO NOT PASH ON THE PASHTUN FOOD One of the newest trucks to hit the hillside scene is painted black like hell, but the flavor they serve shines bright like the heavens. COMBO PLATTER $13 Get it. Soooo good. 2 pieces of their eponymous chapli kebabs: juicy, charred, and bursting with spices served over a bed of soft rice. The fries (i.e. 'chips') are not your typical crispy fries. These are cut long and are a bit soggy, but in a good way. I like them. It's actually one of the favorite parts of the meal for me. They could add a bit more chicken since it's technically a combo, but I usually don't mind since the kebabs steal the show. Make sure you also get it with KICKER sauce. That's what truly elevates the meal to another level. Certified HALAL (for my Muslim friends). WHAT IS PASHTUN? Chapli & Chips is considered Pashtun cuisine from the Pashtun people - a mix of Afghani and Pakistani influences. This was new to me until I realized one of my favorite dishes of all time is actually Pashtun: Kabuli palaw (not served here, but you can get a phenomenal one from Sami's Kebab House in Astoria). Also - CASH ONLY. Good thing it's parked in front of a bank... HOURS OF OPERATION They're there every single day, I believe. They park around 6ish PM and are usually up and running by 7PM. There will already be a slew of people on their phones waiting by (that's how you know it's good). The food comes out relatively quick. tl;dr --- OVERALL ADVICE Skip the $8 chicken and rice on hillside & littleneck and wait the necessary 10-15min for THIS instead. You won't regret it. Recommended: Combo Platter w/ White Sauce and Kicker Sauce

Been eating here at least once a month. But I'm surprise that today 6pm, July 10th,2024 I ordered 3 combo platters and the food was like a nightmare. Staring with sauce, at 6 o'clock they don't have sweet chilli ? Then with chicken patty, taste like from yesterday, you can taste the meat, rotten, taste sour. (Attached picture) Rice was burned, and couldn't separate with fork. 40% of the space is filled with salad. Please do better, with the price of the platter this is robbery.

Chicken chapli wrap

Been meaning to try this truck for a while and finally did after taking a good long walk on Hillside Ave. I tried their chicken chapli wrap and it did not disappoint. For $9, it's a huge wrap: chicken chapli (ground minced spiced chicken kebab) on a thin wrap, loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions and cabbage, french fries and white sauce. Service was great and the young guy was able to let me know the size of the wrap etc. I will definitely come back to try the rice platter and their kicker sauce.

Beef chapli, missing my chicken chapli

The worker pushed me to get a combo platter and then I only get served beef (missing the chicken chapli ). I was the only person there so how can he screw up a simple order and charge me full price??! High prices, tastes decent, a bit over hyped. Not sure if it's Zabiha halal.

2-way platter with white and the kicker sauce

Holy YUMMM!! If you're ever in this part of Queens, plan to stop by this truck and order a plate. Just a heads up, there's always has a line so expect to wait at least 20 minutes after ordering to receive yours. Had to wait about 40min for my order because the line was so long and it just kept bringing in the influx of large groups of hungry folks. Maybe you'll get lucky and the line may be minimal at your arrival. Definitely a little pricey for the quantity of food, but everything has been steady more expensive for all of 2022. 12 bucks for 2 mid size chaplis, rice, shirazi salad and fries so I chalk it up to quality, indulgence and inflation ‍. All the food is certified halal and so delicious. My go to are the platters - both the chicken and beef chapli's are very tender and well seasoned. On days that I can't make up my mind, I'll go for the 2-way platter so I can get a taste of both. Also, the fries are literally the freshest as they chop the whole fresh potato with an industry grade stainless steel chopper manual machine right in the truck (wow ) and then fry. Highly recommend for a guaranteed yummy meal.

The current Mecca of Queens Halal!

After reading up on the NY Times hype, I finally got to visit this hidden food truck gem in the heart of Hillside, Queens. This is not your standard halal platter. They specialize in serving the Pashtun-style kebab or Chaplis, which is better quality spiced meat patties (Beef or chicken varaints). I highly recommended going all out and buy their platters ($12 CASH ONLY), which they served with a bed of their flavorful Afghan-style rice, freshly cut side salad, alongside freshly cut potato fries (hence the Chips in their name). If you're grabbing it to-go and not eating asap, get the sauces on the side, so you don't get the platter soggy. They have a wide array of sauces. I recommended the standard trifecta (White sauce, red hot sauce, & their special Chipotle Kicker orange sauce) as the default. If you're feeling open, the green sauce is also very flavorful with herbs & spices. This might be hyperbole, but this is the best damn Halal truck in Queens as of late. Definitely puts Halal Guys to absolute shame!!!!

Mashallah, fresh, that's the word that describes a plate of awesome from this place l. The combo platter with white sauce and kicker sauce is to die for, with some extra chips, you're on your way to go

Beef Chapli Kebab over Rice
Alishbah S.

I drove about a half hour for this place. We got beef chapli kebabs over rice and 4 different sauces (white, red, green, and kicker). I'll start off with the sauces. White was good, just like your typical halal cart white sauce. Kicker was basically a spicy mayo but it was too sour for me I think they added lemon. Red wasn't that great, I've had a lot of good red sauces from halal carts and afghan restaurants but this one had a strange chemical taste to it. The green on the other hand tasted nice and fresh. The pita chips were a disappointment. They were soggy and almost even doughy, like you're eating a piece of undercooked pita. I don't know why they were even there tbh. Fries were a huge disappointment. You could tell they were homemade and handcut. But unfortunately you could tell they were made a while ago. They were greasy and soggy. Not fresh at all. But the masala seasoning on it tasted good, these fries had a lot of potential had they been made fresh. In terms of the platter, the rice was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The beef chapli kebabs were moist and well seasoned, I could even taste the cumin in it. However, I felt like they weren't salty enough for me, by the time I added sauces you couldn't really tell but if you ate a piece on its own it lacked salt. Also there was a hair in my food and a chunk of something else idk. Kinda off putting Overall, it was good. Didn't blow me away. Wouldn't come all the way next time. But if I'm in the area I might go again.

Kabul Kabab offers the most delectable, flavorful, and cost-effective family meal in the area. The combo #1 or #2 is more than enough to feed a family of 4-6 and it has great value. A combo comes with salad, onions/grilled tomatoes, 2-4 skewers if your choice (depending on which one you get) and a whole STEAMER TRAY of delicious rice. Pro tip: the lamb kebab is always worth the extra $3 or so and the brown rice is the winner in our home (brown rice = more flavorful + more fiber = winwin!) Please do give this place a try if you're in the area and need to feed at least 3-4 mouths--the people there are so nice and the food is amazing--would give 30/10 stars if I could!

It was so good that we ended up doubling down and ordering another round of hummus plus two orders of chicken chop kebab to take home for dinner. That alone says everything. Each entrée came with rice and a side salad, which rounded things out perfectly. You can tell there's real attention to quality here--the chef clearly knows what they're doing, and we were told they only use premium-grade ingredients, never select. All the baking is done in-house, which shows in the freshness of the bread. What really stands out is how the food manages to be both incredibly delicious and genuinely healthy. Lots of olive oil, grilled preparations, minimal saturated fat, and great sources of omega-3s like the salmon--it's the kind of place you can eat at regularly without feeling like you're overindulging. The staff were just as impressive--attentive without being overbearing, checking in often and making sure everything was right. We didn't initially realize and thought they had put out two meals on the platter (and they were just small portions) and included some extras as well, until our waiter came over a few minutes later and apologized. Unfortunately, because we received the mixed grill instead of our two chicken entrees, the solution of charging us the price for the mixed instead of our two meals only took roughly $10 off the bill but resulted in us having less than half of the food we otherwise would've had. That aside, the food was delicious enough that Kebab House still warrants five stars and we will be back, just more aware of what to expect as far as portions.
