My family and I attended a graduation here for a family member. This school is very large and clean. The school itself is nestled in a very nice area of Diamond Bar, surrounded by large, modern homes. The parking lot is gauge, and the grass field is both very large and well-maintained. read more

Chaparral Middle School - Elementary Schools Near Me - Diamond Bar, California

I mean, I am currently a 6th grader here, and this school is great! I am in design based learning and they teach awesomely!

My child goes to school here, specifically eighth grade. My child us new there, and they always come home complaining about how confusing the block schedule is. They also feel very violated every time they have history and they always come home complaining about their history teacher, Mrs. Miles. She is an extremely racist and biased teacher. She favors her white students and does not even pay mind to her POC students, rather, is more harsh towards them. I am highly considering taking my child out of this horrible and discriminative school. 0/10 do not recommend.Trash serves read more

Grandson started coming to this School and academics highly important. Right now it is good so far No Complaints.

Chaparral Middle School is a great middle school. I'm not sure what I can say about the tradition core but I will be speaking about the DBL program. I truly encourage you, or your child to take the DBL program. It tests your brain in so many creative and different ways. The teachers in the program are great as well. They teach very well and make class enjoyable all while caring about your mental health. Taking DBL was one of the best decisions of my life and I truly miss it. DBL is great for students who like to learn creatively or don't like to take classes the traditional pencil and paper. So, if you have any hesitations about DBL, apply first! You can always opt out later. The campus is also amazing. It's a great environment for kids to hang out in. The genius loci is impeccable (shout out to Garsha over there). Additionally, the food at CMS is considerably far better than other middle schools. They have a variety of foods to choose from. I NEVER buy school food but CMS is where I would. The elective programs are all very nice too. I can't say much about how it is now since many of the teachers that taught while I was there have retired. The clubs are amazing too. There are so much to join and I assure you will be able to find your place in one of those clubs. The only thing I don't like about CMS is that we aren't allowed to use phones or electronics during break or lunch. Other than that, great school! read more

Chaparral Middle School is a very good middle school. This school just gives you a very welcoming genius loci (you would understand if you had Mr. Garcia for any class. Also if you dont know what that means, it translates to "feeling/spirit of place"). All of the teachers are highly trained and able to do their job well. I am currently in the Design Based Learning core, and it really helps you exercise your brain and they are very strict about not settling for "good enough" for the landforms. Every one of the projects have a criteria that has to be followed. Mr. Lew and Mrs. Robertson are great at getting the 6th graders into the hang of DBL. I am not sure about any of the traditional or tech teachers (the teachers from other cores). Mrs. Hildebrandt and Mrs. Najera are the most lenient out of all the DBL teachers, and they are also great club advisors for Dance Crew and Musical. And then the 8th grade DBL teachers. Mrs. Haro and Mr. Garcia are very good teachers as well. Mrs. Haro is a great science teacher. She has the ability to get the information she is teaching to get inside your head, specifically from the metric system song. Mr. Garcia is the strictest teacher out of all Chaparral. He is completely honest with his constructive feedback. But that is a good thing because he forces you to do well until all of the criteria is met. Chaparral also has a wide variety of electives from DVP (Digital Video Production) to Orchestra. I never had DVP, but I am in orchestra as a viola player, and Mr. Rochford is also a great teacher. He makes the all of the sections of the orchestra to play well. The only issue with him is that he gets angry at the orchestra a lot, but that is just because a few of us don't listen to the group, and therefore not playing together. The clubs that are at Chaparral are also plentiful. I am sure that there will always be something of interest for you, whether it is anime all the way to Christianity. They have it all. And then there are the types of groups at Chaparral. The jocks, who get into almost every school athletic sport they try out for. The people who are just friends. The people who are alone too much. The people who talk about anime too much. And the cubers, the people who cannot go one second without holding any type of speed cube (most of these people are also weebs) Overall, I would just like to say that Chaparral is a really good junior high school in Diamond Bar because of its teachers, choices of electives, and the diversity of interests the students have on certain topics. P.S. What is up with the business photos? read more

I personally go to Chaparral Middle school and it is great. The teachers are kind, the counselors are too. The students are involved, the education system is exceptional, and the teachers interact kindly with their students. Thee are some issues such as terrible traffic in the morning, in fact two children have been run over, the most recent one was a week ago, and the other was a couple of years ago. And to be honest the food is great. There are some issues with profanity but other wise there is no bullying and no violence. Children receive the right kinds of punishments needed for their acts, and the homework isn't that bad. I highly recommend enrolling to this school. read more

This is a great junior high school. The teachers are excellent and the campus is in great shape. The scores a high as well.

I think this a great school. My sisters go here and it has lots of good programs for students. The Spring Musical Club is definitely something that brings a lot of attention to the school. The productions are pretty good and one of my sister as been in the club for all three years. Just saw their production of High School Musical and it was really good. Not to mention my sister got one of the lead roles. The snacks are really good too and pretty cheap. One of the parents made nachos and a homemade salsa. It was delicious! They are also selling a discount card where you get pretty nice deals at many food places like Taco Bell, Cherry on Top, and Cold Stone. It costs about $10 and its to support the school choir. The only reason I took away a star is school starts pretty early at 7:45 AM and the traffic at the school is awful. read more

Chaparral middle school has a lot to offer! choir classes, band, art and much more! with GREAT teachers and staff, it's a fully rounded scholastic acadamy, i myself had many great times there! One of the best teachers i remember is mr. chapman, he is a great teacher who also knows how to make class fun! and un-like most school's they have a fantastic lunch selection, from salads to pizza, and not to mention the great staff! There was one lunch lady, mrs. mocho who always greeted every passing child a smile and a hello. Chaparral also has a great peir and teacher support system, ranging from the dear abby colum and guidence councelors. so if your looking for a great school for your child to go to chaparral is a top notch choice! read more

Mrs.Ebel is evil, please do not support her evil ways, not only are they evil, they are the most outrageous, most stupid rules ever. So I was holding my phone because i was trying to turn it off to follow her stupid policy and while I was doing so she gave me a referral, that's like going to jail for arresting someone! Mr.Tran is the best councilor and the office ladies can get fired except the Asian one, the old white ladies can leave. The lunch ladies are nice and the food is good. But overall the only problem here are the trash councilors except Mr.Tran so that includes Mrs. Ebola and Mrs. Aquino on the chopping block. The phone policy is over exaggerated and the dress code is just as dumb as a doorknob. The councilors believe shoulders that are shown by girls distract the guys and overall disrupt education. They be acting like all the guys would fly over to shoulders and start biting them or something, people will look but if they are smart enough they wouldn't think anything of it. The only reason why phones and dress codes are a distraction is because the councilors make it such a big deal. Never in my entire school career have I been distracted by someone else using a phone. In today's society phones have become the norm and can be seen everywhere which is why making them a problem in school(during lunch and break only, the classroom is unacceptable) makes such a big impact when they enforce it like it's murder. Getting a referral for HOLDING a phone is just crazy, I don't care if your mom was killed by a phone I will use my phone on my free time. Good education system though and DBL was fun! read more

Chaparral Middle School is one of the few really excellent middle schools out there. The teachers are AMAZING at teaching and really being there for the kids. There are many extracurricular activities on and off campus (most are on campus at least half of the time). Our principal and vice-principal are great at their jobs and much, much more. Food is always great and our new "paw" area or new quad is very roomy and beautiful. All of the electives are great and have their own vibe. One last highlight for the school are the three cores: Traditional, Tech, and Design Based Learning Cores. Traditional Core teaches kids the way most schools do. Tech Core is like the Traditional Core but is heavily technologically focused and have online textbooks and assignments. Design Based Learning requires a lot of project-based learning, teamwork, hands-on learning, and thinking outside the box. I would highly recommend this school to many parents and children in the area. Go Chaparral Cougars! read more

I have a boy in second year (7th grade) at Chaparral. He transferred from a small private school to a WVUSD elementary school for 4th and 5th grades because he likes lots of kids to interact with. He wanted a larger universe of school mates with the hope that he could form a rock band. He plays 7 musical instruments. He was always in trouble in 4th and 5th grades because he was always interacting. He had to sit in his own row in front of the teacher's desk because otherwise as soon as the teacher would turn her/his back there would be a party in the classroom. In actually, he was continually competing, politely, for control of the classroom and bored by the restrictive environment. WVUSD elementary schools are academically adequate but he didn't fit in their emphasis on "crowd control". At Chaparral in 6th grade he was immersed in interaction and found the personal fulfillment and room for growth he needed, and that continues in 7th grade. He didn't find his rock band members in elementary school, but there is plenty of such talent at Chaparral. Chaparral helps kids find themselves. The emphasis there is not on "crowd control" by the teacher but rather on teaching how to control and lead the crowd and he just totally thought he had died and gone to heaven in that environment and there were no problems with the teachers whatsoever all of whom loved him. I understand the problems of controlling 35 third graders, for example, in a room, but his problem was that he wasn't asked to be one of the controllers instead of relegated to being one of the controlled. It's not until he got to Chaparral that the teachers told him that if he wanted to lead, then lead. read more

Mr. Rochford is the greatest orchestra teacher ever!! Pretty wide range of sports and clubs. Most teachers are helpful and caring and actually care about the kids! Lunch program is okay, mostly the same as elementary school. The administrative staff works really hard =D. read more

If you're signing up your child at this school, you're either desperate, too lazy to drive to the better schools located in the vicinity (South Pointe Middle School, Suzanne Middle School, Lorbeer Middle School), or you want your kid to grow up like an animal. Not all the teachers are bad at this school, but some of them are terrible. Violence and bullying is promoted at this school by students. Most of the teachers just read their textbooks and assign homework. It would take them nearly two whole hours to do that. This school has a lot of racist students. If your child is Hispanic, African-American, Caucasian, or Indian, I would suggest you to make them learn self-defense. However, there is also a lot of fighting between Chinese and Korean students. Some of them would bring knives to school to look intimidating. Also, please don't be fooled by the school's "high test scores". All of the people who have good grades at this school have expensive tutors and are enrolled in after schools. Most of the teachers play no role in teaching. There are better schools than Chaparral in the area, but if you want your child to grow up as an animal, Chaparral Middle School is the PERFECT environment for him/her. read more
