My daughter has been at WUMP for 2 years and is leaving soon for kindergarten. I toured 6 schools in Diamond Bar and Walnut and ultimately chose WUMP. It was my child's first time in preschool and I was very nervous for the transition. However, the tenured teachers made my daughter's transition to school smooth. We love all the teachers there, to name a few Ms Elizabeth, Ms Jackie, Ms Debbie, Ms Joanna, Ms Nicole...WUMP has the lowest student to teacher ratio of any school I toured which gives the teachers the ability to learn and bond with each student. In the 3 year class, there were 2 teachers to 14 students and 3 teachers to 24 students in the 4/5 year old class. My daughter blossomed in the last 2 years developing friendships, social, and academic skills. I love the school's location with the large, mostly shaded playground in comparison to other schools that were either facing a main street or were in commercial buildings. WUMP is the hidden gem that I discovered by word of mouth and I highly recommend it!

When I was looking for a pre-school for my older son around the area, I visited maybe at least 5-6 different ones.

Ms Linda, Ms Teresa and Ms Letty are so friendly. My daughter is always happy about going and says everyone is so nice to her. She's already sad thinking about leaving. We love her experience there. Ms Linda from the being made me feel comfortable when I told her my daughter was shy and I was worried. She assured me that all kids are the same and we would see her fit right in. She was right. So thankful for this school.

I went in to ask when does kindergarten registration start her answer refer to the website. When do I need to sign up for the dual immersion program her answer refer to the website. It's very unprofessional to me it seems like she's been seating in that seat/position for decades. I'm sure there wasn't always a website and these questions I have are simple and happen around the same time every year. Again I came in two years ago to ask her response was the same. And I came last week to ask her response was the same. It's so frustrating to interact w a person like that and it makes my life as a parent trying to get clarification for enrollment harder.

Great school with HORRIBLE principle!…read more Mary Wendland runs this position like a politician! I have two kids in this school one first grader boy and one older girl. Just like any boys he is active. Whenever there is physical contact, I get a note from the school even if it's as simple as kids joggling for position when they form a line That said when my boy got pushed down from behind by older kids running in school and scraped up his entire left hand plus nose and another wound 1/2" away from his left eye, I didn't even get notice nor call from the school. When I went to see her the next day, she kept saying that it wasn't her but was her staff. Everything was deferred to her staff even though she is is the leader of the school; certainly not the right response from a leader. I left after getting nothing from her so I went to Walnut Valley Unified School District to see the super Intendant and met the Assistant Super Intendant. Right away she expressed concerns and sympathy and was right on top of it to take care of the problem. Within few hours I got the first ever call (despite all the incidences that happened in the past) from Mary Wenland apologizing about the incident and her staff missing the standard protocols. Wow what a difference it makes when I spoke to her superior!! SMH! Multiple protocols were ignored/missed: 1. Didn't bother to ask why a child is injured and why he was injured 2. Didn't notify the parents or guardians 3. When injuries are sustained above the neck, there should have been a protocol to evaluate the student before sending him or her to the bus or home This is sad because she runs the school like a politician acting all tough all in wrong time and places until it was escalated. When a person puts her own before children's safety, She is certainly not fit to run an education institute in my opinion. I also encourage all Asian parents to speak up due to the nature of Asians being more quiet and reserved. When your kids aren't treated fairly at school don't be afraid to speak up!

Historically, WHS : A Great school in a Great community!…read more If there is any ring of truth to some of the criticisms on here on Yelp about WHS, hopefully the appropriate people in the appropriate positions of authority will investigate and remedy - or else, be replaced. It can't be easy being a teacher or administrator in these modern, challenging times, given all the horror stories of present day teens, and their lack of home 'schooling' /up-bringing / discipline/ child-rearing; nonetheless, if there is a community of folks who can perform a better job than most high schools in this nation, Walnut is such a community! What a great high school, though... in a terrific little city outside LA, within the San Gabriel Valley (with one of the lowest crime rates) - one of the top ranked public school districts in Southern California ("Best School Districts For Your Buck in Southern California"; see https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/cities/best-school-districts-southern-california-2015/). Surrounded by and populated with "[q]uality housing" consisting of nice, clean homes part of a master-planned single family housing community, and a median household income at one of the top-earning percentiles in the country at $101,250 according to available Census data, WHS is almost somewhat idyllic WHS is significant part of Primary Education in Walnut, which is served by the prestigious Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD), which, in turn, has been ranked by numerous sources to be one of the top public school districts in all of Southern California. In addition to Walnut and WHS, WVUSD also serves parts of the city of Diamond Bar. Schools located in and around Walnut include: C.J. Morris Elementary School Collegewood Elementary School Oswalt Academy (Formerly known as Oswalt Elementary School) (Rowland Unified School District) Vejar Elementary School Walnut Elementary School Westhoff Elementary School Suzanne Middle School Southlands Christian Schools South Pointe Middle School[46] Chaparral Middle School Ronald Hockwalt Academies (Formerly known as Del Paso High School)[47] Walnut High School Diamond Bar High School Portions of the western side of Walnut are also served by the Rowland Unified School District. The proof is in the puddin (as the saying goes); Graduates from WHS have gone on to continue their educations at the top levels of world recognized/ nationally ranked colleges and universities, and enjoyed careers across the spectrum of professions and occupations. Students (and their parents) should be grateful (and proud as well) of being part of the Mustang family!
