I adore this place. The food is quick to the table, the service is great, and I have never had a bad time in the 5 or 6 times I have been in before writing this review. I have a large family (7 of us) and that is the only drawback - their table sizes are fairly small. We live in Kennewick, and some times when we are in Richland we have lunch there. Last year we would have given it 5 stars, but could only give it 4 stars this time. The reason for the reduction from 5 to 4 stars was for the following reasons: Extra fee for more chips or salsa, no bean dip offered for free, and for the limit of only 1 refill for soft drinks. The food was excellent and at a reasonable price. Oh! The food is delivered very fast. Parking can be a problem some times, but not a reason for a lower ranking. read more

I am so sorry. I forgot to review Chapala Express! I loved going there. I went often in my almost 3 years of living there. I always spoke Spanish and they understood me and responded bcak. I love the food and a couple of the hot sauces! I usually ordered a combo plate with a taco an denchilada or quesadilla. Always had leftovers as the food is substantial and good sized plates! This use to be my favorite place for salsa and Mexican food. Recently they have been very disappointing!! The last few times I have ordered from them they have messed up my order and not given me all of what I have ordered. The price for the salsa has gone up and now since I order a larger salsa size they no longer give me my smaller ones that come with my order. I absolutely LOVE this place! You order fast food style and then go sit and they bring you chips and salsa to snack on while you wait for your food. The food usually shows up quickly and is hot and delicious. This last time I had the special which was an enchilada and 2 Fluatas. Muy delcioso. My friend had the Mole and let me have a taste. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The bean sauce is incredible. Branch out and try the Mole Rancheras - it's delicious.

The gal behind the counter wasn't the most welcoming. She was too concerned with sitting with her boytoy in the booth than take care of her customers... The food, eh it's ok. I was looking for some good simple authentic tacos. Instead I get some over seasoned greasy slop. I just wanted chicken, onions and cilantro, and it was heavily loaded with cheese!! Not good. Came in one evening to get 3 carne asada tacos to go. When I got the tacos, they were nicely packaged and I found tortilla chips and salsa in the bag as well (which was a nice surprise), however, when I ate the tacos, I was really, really, really disappointed. The carne asada was 'cubed' and tasted more like stew beef. The tortillas resembled something like french crepes than tortillas. They were kind of soggy almost. Chapala really is good. I usually get a chicken tamale, lardy beans, and rice for $5. It is always very quick service (and the workers in the area know this which is one reason why they go). The menu is extensive (chimichangas are excellent). I recommend it, you will expand your belly, be satisfied, and not spend too much cash. read more

Actually this is a five star for us but I don't want all you folks coming here and them getting big headed and doubling the size and price so they become one of them other overpriced local Mexicans restaurants in our area. I'm not sure why the reviews are so high. Maybe because it's relative to the rest of the food in Richland (which is nothing to write home about). We ordered cheese enchiladas and pescado con mojo de ajo (tilapia). The beans and rice were your stereotypical oily orange colored rice and pasty refried pinto beans (from the can). The enchiladas were average as well as the fish. What I agree with on the other reviews: prices are cheap and service is fast. I like the salsa which scored points with me. Food is regular mexican dishes, made quick and cheap. Do not order the fish tacos! You get some nasty grey fish meat in a soggy corn tortilla, seriously the worst. Other stuff I have tried is really good though, like the enchiladas and burritos. read more

I would rather eat at Taco Bell to be honest. This is a fast food place. I have had tacos, enchiladas, and burritos from here in the three times I was dragged here by friends...every time someone tells me they love this place I take them across the street to 3 Margaritas to see what flavor is. Chapala is dried out from the meat to the rice. With no flavor. I have had the beef, it taste like I am eating day old unflavored ground beef. The chicken is dried and taste like nothing, i feel like i have to chew it for days. i have to drench my food in salsa just to get it down. Even the chips taste stale. Yuck. My tacos are always soggy falling apart before I can even pick them up to eat and when I ask for new tortillas they look at me like I'm crazy. Two of the waitresses don't care they're rude. Ok, maybe not the absolute best Mexican food, but consistently very good and the price can't be beat. While we no longer live in Richland, we always go (at least once) to Chapala Express when we return. My favorite is the chicken chimichanga or the fajita burrito. The bean dip and chips are a nice touch and we always ask for more. The salsa is some of the best, but could be a bit spicier. My chief complaint is they don't save Coke, hey, I'm an Atlanta boy. I no longer live in the Tri-Ciities but always love coming back to eat the Mexican food in the area - I love the salsa and cheese/onion enchiladas at this restaurant :o) They were extremely busy when I went today and had many snafus with my order along with some rudeness from the waitresses but the manager was very nice in making up for that. Growing up in Richland, this always seemed like a restaurant we ended up at. The food is predictable, the chips and salsa provided to the table once you sit down is nice, the service is quick, and the price is definitely affordable - even in a pinch. We have been customers of Chapala Express for several years now, and the food is indeed great. However in the last year or so the customer service has gone down hill thus the one star review. Waiters and waitresses are short with their customers and have major attitudes. We usually spend around $50 for a family four, and give them a tip on top of that upfront prior to receiving service or food. They act as if we are inconveniencing them by asking for salsa and other things that we have paid for already. Our visits to here will sure reduce and if we do visit no tips will be given ahead of time and we will probably visit Chapala II where the customer service is much more exceptional. We sure hope the customer service improves here! read more

Chapala Express is one of the best places to go to in the Tri-Cities if you're looking for a quick bite that is affordable and filling. I always get their lunch combo (which you can get with two items and comes with rice and beans) and love how there are so many meal choices. Anything with the shredded beef will be especially satisfying as the meat is well seasoned and flavorful. I love spicy salsa and the salsa and chips here are a great way to start a meal.
