I like to think I like all authentic Mexican food, but maybe in reality, I don't unless it feels like something I can't or won't make at home myself. In example, I ordered the Macho burrito with chicken as my meat of choice. It came with rice and beans. Rice, beans, and toppings aside, the burrito itself came with only meat and cheese. That's it. There is certainly beauty in simplicity, but my taste buds were bored out of their minds. This would be when salsas would come into play. But Chapala only has one type of salsa. They consider it their spicy salsa, but there is hardly a kick. It's your average tomato blend. I had to use the crunchiness and the saltiness of the complimentary chips in order to give my burrito any sort of texture and taste. Kudos though to the great service! The prices were excellent for the full plate of food we received! The Negro Modelo (12 oz.) was only $3.75! Much less expensive than most places, & served with a chilled mug! You can eat as a "dine-in" restaurant at a booth with menus, or order at the counter, & bring your meal to your table. We were initially served spicy salsa with our chips, but when Mireya noticed I was coughing from the heat of the salsa, she brought us "mild" salsa without us asking for it! I love their Chicken en Mole. Chapala Express is my go to Mexican place. The staff is very attentive and usually friendly. Food service is quick and the chips and salsa are great. Salsa is probably a little too hot for my wife most of the time, but who cares? More for me. We usually both get the Chicken en Mole and it's actually the only restaurant my wife will order the same thing as me. Which is a big deal. The place is clean and nice. I'll admit to getting the same exact meal nearly every time I go there - but then, it's perfect, so why would I change it? The portions are big, the flavors are spot on, and the service is RIDICULOUSLY fast. As soon as you sit down, you're brought chips, salsa, and bean dip. Before you can even finish a few chips, your meal is placed before you on a steaming hot plate. I've only cleaned my plate there twice; all other times I need a to-go box. This is a wonderful spot for a meal if you're pressed for time. If you want to slow things down, just enjoy the chips while your meal cools off in front of you. They offer margaritas and beer, and it's all extremely affordable. I ordered through doordash and it did not take long at all. It was in aluminum so it stayed hot. It was in aluminum container so you could just put it in the oven to reheat if you don't like microwaves. It was a good carne asada burrito that came with some beans, rice, and chips. A great place combining a perfect balance of a fast food/semi self serve joint, table service, and with food that could stand alone in a higher end traditional Mexican restaurant. Order and pay at the counter (no waiting at the table, which is great), get your drinks, and then sit back and enjoy good table service! The best of both worlds, and the services is fast. The complimentary chips, salsa, and hot bean dip are all very good as well, and you get a bottle of salsa, so needing to ask for more is typically not an issue. The enchiladas are excellent, and I havent really traveled the menu past them, but no need, really. One of these days Ill try something else, but 5 stars since I have not been disappointed at all after roughly 20 visits. While I really like the concept & service of Chapala, the food didn't hit the mark for me. The chips were super thick and tasted stale although the salsa & bean dip were okay. I got the enchiladas which are kind of the litmus test for Mexican food. When it came out, it was a bit overwhelming: huge and covered in super-processed cheese. While pretty typical, there was nothing special about the food or the proceeding stomach ache. That said, I've only been here once & would be willing to give it one more try... maybe the enchiladas weren't the way to go. read more

I've never even noticed this being on Lee as many times as I've driven passed it. We got our food to go. The wait wasn't more than 10 minutes. There were about 6 other people eating inside. I forgot what we ordered but it was good. My sister wasn't thrilled with their tamales, but everything else was good. My sister's boyfriend, who happens to know what authentic Mexican food tastes like since his mother cooks it all the time, thought the food tasted pretty authentic. They gave us a bag of fresh chips with salsa too. I've been back to order take out a few times now. It's always consistent and service is good. Their menu is massive. Their portions are massive. When my friends first brought me I was hesitant to say the least. It looks a little sketchy from the get-go and I'd never heard of it before. However, after trying the food I was hooked. It's excellent and their prices are even better. But aside from the food the staff is wonderful, friendly and efficient.
