The name is misleading, should be Chantilly BEST MECHANIC. Been going to Mr. Wacker's shop for all our auto maintenance and repair needs for several years, and everything except upholstery and dents repairs were done in-shop (including of late inspections too). Jim and his team do SOLID work for a reasonable price and on-time. If it were not for him, we would not still be driving a car with over 100K miles. Instead, we trust it will not strand us somewhere, and is safe for our kid to drive. I would caution new customers of two things. First, the focus of the shop is to fix cars, not providing humans with a sparking clean and fancy facade like dealerships do. Second, the parking lot rarely has a free spot -- best to park on the street in front of the shop and have Jim do the "car shuffle" so that your car is safe until they are able to work on it. read more

Jim is my mechanic. Period. He and his crew at Chantilly Steering know their stuff. They have helped me out on several vehicles, always have been friendly, timely, and accurate. When I have an issue with a vehicle, I'm calling Jim first. Side note: one time I was trying to change the oil in one of my vehicles and I stripped the nut that keeps the oil in. Frustrated and in a slight panic, I called them and they had me bring it over. They put it up on the rack and helped me finish my oil change. I couldn't thank them enough. read more

I brought my baby in here to get a diagnostic. 1988 Honda Civic. It was overheating, and had expired emissions stickers. After the diagnostic, I was told the heat gasket needed to be replaced and that would cost about $800 before the car could get inspected and at that rate, it would be better just to get rid of the vehicle altogether. I was heartbroken. I called my mom and asked her advice and she said we should try and sell it for parts and that I should call the shop back. I called back to ask if they wanted to buy the car for parts and they basically laughed at me over the phone. I then had my boyfriend go pick it up and they just handed him the keys without even calling to make sure he was authorized to pick up. I ended up selling the car to my boyfriend's coworker who fixed it in no time - the car is as good as new. Before selling, I called the DMV to try and find out what I should do about the emissions sticker. They told me because the car is over 25 years old, it does NOT need emissions. Why couldn't the shop tell me that? I miss my baby, but I'm happy it at least got sold to someone who will love it. read more

This was my first time here. Needing bushings, another shop wanted to replace the control arms, not just the warn parts. They replaced the parts, aligned the front end, took care of my inspection and did it when they said they would do it. Everyone seemed professional and helpful. BTW: they did it for 60% less than the other shop. I believe I've found a new shop. read more

Fantastic business that gets my first 5 star rating. After having some customer service issues with my longtime emissions station, I decided to give this place a shot. I called and they worked it out so the technicial would be availible after my work shift in the late afternoon. I have two older vehicles and I have been so lucky to have found Jimmy. I am like most people, in that I don't have the extra spending money to pay for unnecessary repairs to my vehicles... I feel like I have never been taken advantage of and I feel like Jimmy has been as honest with me as he would have been with a relative. I have been in the Centerville area for about a year and a half now and have gone to him several times with both of my vehicles and each time I have gone to him he has made repairs that have lasted and Charged me what I have always felt to be very reasonable charges. I highly recommend the station and this owner. Albeit, I don't want to recommend the station too aggressively because I love that this is a small shop and that they can provide such great service ......And so I don't want them to get too awfully big!! :-) read more

Came in for an emissions test. James was the mechanic on duty and met me at the garage bay as I pulled up. He was glad to help me and I was in and out in 10 minutes! James also informed me that they are a full service automotive repair center, so I could keep that in mind for the future. The staff was very professional and friendly. Super service and price. I found our new family mechanic. Jim fixed up several small things and charged a very reasonable price. I say small things but at most shops they would have ballooned it to much more expensive repairs. Today he changed my muffler, changed some rusty brake lines, and tracked down a broken wire in the wiring harness and Kenny dropped me off at work and picked me up again when it was ready. Jim seems to work it like he was working on his own car--he takes care to do it right--but not soak you on new parts. Yes the parking in front of that building is dodgy. But I'm going back to this honest, competent and efficient mechanic. read more

Our minivan's inspection and emissions are set to expire this month and I decided to come here instead of my usual gas station. As I pulled up to the shop I immediately noticed the lack of parking, and not for just this shop, but every shop in the building. It was so crowded I just parked in the middle of the lane and walked in the office. There was one car ahead of me. The tech came out and took my car in. Within 15 minutes the emissions was finished, but then the tech took my car out of the shop and drove it somewhere. I asked the front desk what was happening and he said they did emissions in the shop and do the inspections at another shop. This irked me because the sign outside his shop clearly states Inspections and Emissions. The tech came back about 20 mins later and I was on my way. I would have gave this place 3 stars but the misleading sign led me to give them 2 stars. For now, I will stick to my gas station, they are a lot quicker and more efficient. read more

These guys are fantastic. Finally a mechanic who knows how to fix your car and does so in a straightforward honest manner. For example, I had one shop tell me I need nearly thousand of dollars in repair for a cracked head gasket, and this was after I paid for a "dye test" at another mechanic to determine if that was indeed the problem. Long story short, they looked at my car, determined it was NOT a cracked head gasket. Completed the repair and saved me thousands. read more
