Nice cozy restaurant in Durham region. The atmosphere is welcoming but because the restaurant is so small the noise can be loud. Service was friendly and efficient with the staff being very attentive. Rocket salad was tasty, and the mains - goat cheese tart and the duck were served very hot. Appreciate the temperature on the duck and the show of the dishes being very warm. Cocktails were nice and the wine selection was good. Was it fine dining? Even though it was white tablecloths I would not consider it fine dining..I consider is very good food in a nice atmosphere. Worth the visit in the area because it is hard to find good quality tasty food in the area. Also the bill at the end of the nice was very reasonable. read more

I have now been here twice - once for dinner and once for afternoon tea. Place was very busy for the Saturday night dinner and noise levels energetic, but we were seated in short order. Tea was a pleasant affair and quieter. Our server was great on both occasions and made good suggestions on what to try. The food was phenomenal - big fan of the lobster risotto, the little quiches, and the scones with Devonshire cream. Aside from a lovely wine and tea list, they also carry local craft beer from Bowmanville's own Chronicle Brewery. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Excellent idea to have a afternoon tea menu with a large assortment of teas to chose. Our tea choice was a peach and it was not too over powering, hand made tea bags and cute small tea pots for one or larger for sharing. The teas and the presentation of the 3 tiered tray was beautiful ,everything is home made and was delicious. lots of choices plus excellent desserts to choose from and perfect bite sized portions for all. they do have coffee as well, and 3 different waters offered upon sitting at our table, all included in price. Set menu. very nice surroundings. highly recommend. Our Server was very attentive and explained the whole menu from top to bottom, very kind and joyful. Just moved to Bowmanville and was searching for a nice restaurant for my wife and I.Got lucky and was able to secure a reservation at Chanterelle. Very impressed on our visit. Ambiance was relaxing. Great food and service, weird music. We got the oysters Rockefeller and crab cakes to start and rack of lamb for dinner with crème brûlée for dessert. All with a Bordeaux to pair. Our server was really lovely and everything was delicious. The music was a mix of Titanic, a piano cover of Clean Bandits "Symphony", a Hozier cover, Elton John, and some other stuff that could have been out of Les Mis. My husband and I went for dinner last Saturday. He ordered the special, veal chop, and found it chewy and tasteless. I ordered the shrimp & scallop linguini. Also not very tasty and shrimp was over cooked. Also, there was a young child in the back which made a lot of noise. I felt like I was at a day care and not a restaurant. While this restaurant looks a bit shady from the outside with an odd door and whited-out windows, it is the opposite from the inside. The restaurant has great food and friendly staff! I came in and was kindly greeted by the hostess who seated us in a semi-private room. While there, the hostess than explained the specials for the night. A few minutes after that, our waitress came over to take our drink orders. The waitress had extensive knowledge on the menu and was very nice. A few minutes later, the waitress returned this time to take out appetizer and entree orders. I decided to go with the buffalo mozzarella with tomato for my appetizer and chicken and penne topped with cream sauce. Quickly, my appetizer came out. It was absolutely delicious with the mozzarella containing a creamy center and the tomatoes were nice and fresh. However, my main problem came right after finishing my entrees. It took nearly 45 minutes for the entree to come out. At least, at times the waitress checked up on us and apologized for the wait. I suppose the problem was due there being a party of nearly 20 people next to us. When our food finally did come out, it was really good. The pasta was soft with a delicious cream sauce on top. The chicken was also tender and moist. The sauce even has pieces of peppers and asparagus. When it was time for dessert, our waitress came over and provided us with dessert on the house! I decided to try the chcokate mousse cake and their homemade ice cream. While I thought the entrees and appetizers were better, the dessert was good. The mousse was three layers and extra creamy! I loved how it included chunks of chocolate! Their homemade ice cream was great as well. The vanilla ice cream was creamy and full of flavor. Altogether, this is a cute restaurant with great food and friendly staff! read more

We came by here with a group of 6 about 4-5 times and everyone's meal tasted delicious . Main dishes are about $20-40 depending on what to get ...but worth every penny. We celebrated my mother's birthday at this restaurant. The drive from Toronto was well worth it. The restaurant was comfortable, well lit and quiet. Loved that there was no music blaring and competing with the conversation. Our server was attentive but did not rush us as we spent quite a bit of time reviewing the menu and discussing the specials before placing our order. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert was delicious. We had the veal, venison, lamb shank, duck, and seafood pasta. It was very hard to decide what dish to choose. For dessert, the restaurant remembered that we were celebrating a birthday and brought out an extra dessert with a candle so we could sing Happy Birthday. The wine selection was excellent - we decided on one bottle of red and white - both of which are not found in the LCBO and were imported from France and Germany. The prices were much cheaper than at a similar 5-star restaurant that you would find in Toronto. I can't wait to plan my next visit to this restaurant. read more

Went for a Christmas Work Dinner and was not disappointed. Had the most wonderful main of Beef Tenderloin with Au Gratin of potatoes and Medley of Vegetables. The beef was cooked wonderfully, Medium well just as requested. The dessert was a wonderful Creme Brûlée, it was so delicious, served chilled. The ambiance and setting is cozy and intimate, no need to shout across the table. Those at the table who ordered wine were happy with the selection. The service was wonderful no complaints. My friend and I both had their version of Caesar salad. It was good but more dressing would have been better and there was no bacon in it :(. The salad portion size was good and we could have shared it. The appetizer bread with a dipping sauce was good. My friend had halibut ( very small piece) with mashed potatoes and veggies. Good but not great. I had Pesto pasta. The sauce was kind of watery and the pesto taste was not very strong. It was okay but not great. Both main portions were not small but not large. The Bailey's cheese cake was okay but it reminded me of Presidents Choice cheesecakes. Good but not great. Service was very good and the tables were well spaced in small rooms. Clean and quaint. We drove here in a bit of a snowstorm and it was well worth the drive from Cobourg. Our waitress, Sabrina, was charming and attentive and made honest recommendations. The shrimp bisque was fabulous, the surf and turf and the venison were pure perfection and we ate all our vegetables wanting more. I can also recommend the banana split. I think my wife and I must have experienced one of those "off" moments in this restaurant. When we arrived we were the only ones in the restaurant and we were seated and all was well. The waitress/host seemed "off" a little somehow, not comfortable somehow with me ordering a beer (perhaps they don't like serving beer as it is not on the menu anywhere, yet they have plenty). I like a beer to relax before I have a glass of wine with my dinner. The food and atmosphere were both excellent. The restaurant has three rooms. During our time there, a second party arrived and they were put in one of the other rooms and seemed to be having a wonderful time. Then during our very intimate, romantic dinner a third party arrived, and here is the weirdness.......the waitress/hostess put them at the very next table, about 2 feet away ? Now I am as friendly as the next person, but it was obvious my wife and I were sharing an intimate dining experience and were dumbfounded that with all the choice of seating, she put them there. Our conversation was no longer private so we were disappointed at that. If the restaurant was full, I would have understood the choice of seats and the noise level would have been such that our conversation wouldn't have been heard, but it wasn't full. Some reading this may think, why didn't you just move, but we were in the middle of eating when they sat down and it would have disrupted us worse. On my way to the washroom I quietly and respectfully asked the waitress why she would do that. Through her awkwardness she gave me what seemed like a somewhat valid reason of minimizing cleanup of different areas at the end of an evening. Although somewhat logical, not really aimed at the comfort of customers I think. What was worse was that on my way back to the table from the washroom she was telling my wife that we could move tables due to the complaint of proximity to the other patrons (while the other party heard everything of course which made things uncomfortable for them and us). It was a bust at that point so we finished up and left. Perhaps the restaurant can read this and learn that it's all about the experience and not just the food. Perhaps they gained 5 minutes in cleaning time trying to keep patrons as close together as possible, but it sounded very lazy and unprofessional. They lost what could have been an excellent review and repeat customers. read more

the food here is amazing!! such a gem nearby. the food was quick and hot also season properly. this was the first time I had steak without ketchup. for apps I got the lobster shrimp avacodo salad I loved it never had anything in Durham region that is good to compare to this restaurant, will always come back. for dinner had a 14 Oz steak cooked to perfection.From apps to desert everything was 100% perfect. read more
