Chant is in a great location in Hyde Park. Offering great Asian dishes. I was a little disappointed in the service we were sat in the corner of the restaurant. The staff forgot about us and we had to flag them down to start ordering. Overall the food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. It has a neighborhood restaurant and bar feel to the place with TVs that are showing sports games.

Awesome location in the heart of Hyde Park! The restaurant has a lively and inviting atmosphere. The food was reasonably priced and overall pretty good. The wings were delicious, but they definitely need a little more training on how to make Egg Foo Yung, it was probably the worst I've ever had! That said, I'd still go back because the other dishes we ordered were pretty good, the service was decent and we enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant.

Today (06/27/26) I placed an order for delivery for the first time, and it was awful! Not only were all 10 pieces of calamari (for $19.00!) cold but they were stuffed in a greasy white paper bag! The entire order arrived in a greasy brown paper bag (see pictures). When I called the restaurant and spoke to a manager by the name of Ryan, he apologized and stated that is how they package the calamari for delivery (did not comment on the temperature) and suggested that I contact Grub Hub, where I ordered, because there is nothing he can do. Thank God for Grub Hub who refunded the entire order and added a $10.00 credit to my account for the inconvenience. Hopefully the in-person experience at Chant is better because I will never order delivery from them again! BEWARE!

I would return but only for the drinks. We were initially excited to eat here based off a previous visit. We had just flew into town and wanted to unwind and get some grub. Unfortunately the grub was meh. I ordered a fish sandwich it was tasteless. The addition of the bacon really took away from the fish. The fries were old and cold while the fish was piping hot. Odd. My husband had the curry beef tenderloin. I had to keep my comments to myself because he does not complain or send food back. It looked disgusting and unappetizing, the broccoli had way too much garlic on it. Check out the pictures. Looked like potted meat in brown gravy. My sister ordered the friend rice which she said was overly salty and she returned it and did not order anything to replace it. We also ordered wings, we really wanted to try the Kong pow wings but they only offer honey chipotle. The server we had was a bit rude. She kept telling us what we couldn't have. We understand some items may not allow substitutions, but other items she'd say it's an up charge but we don't do that I can ask the chef. Her responses really sounded as if it could be done but she just didn't want to be bothered. The restaurant is spacious, but pretty empty. I wish this were a place I could have added to my go to Chicago spots when I'm in town. It definitely missed the mark in several areas of our experience.

I'm not too sure how I felt about the place just yet - I want to go again and try something completely different (perhaps their Asian cuisine) to get the full picture of the restaurant. I'll start with our server - he was also the bartender so we barely saw him and whenever we tried to get his attention he told us to wait. That wasn't cool. The music was way too loud. I love a good live band, but I come out to dinner to chat with friends and the music did not allow that unfortunately. For the drinks I would say I love the pricing - very affordable compared to others. I got a lychee martini that was so delicious. I got 2 but would say they need a bit more alcohol for my liking. Food on my end of things was pretty okay - i got the oxtails over mashed potatoes. It had good flavor and I enjoyed it. My friends on the other hand hates their meals. One got pot roast and she said it was flavorless and tough. I tasted a bit and I agree it was bland and not worth its price. My other friend got the fried chicken that she said was just fine. Now it's in the heart of Hyde Park so I want to see what else they can give to give another opinion. My friend told me she hasn't been in YEARS but the times she had came, it was good, but I read somewhere it's new ownership so not sure if that's the case. Hoping when I do come back they change my mind.

Chant is my favorite restaurant in Hyde Park amongst several others. My service is always great. This time i ordered a few appetizers and cocktails as a quick lunch date. I was filled to capacity after everything we ordered, . I always order the infamous chicken and black bean soup with avocado. it never disappoints. It was my first time trying the deviled eggs p, lobster and shrimp dip as well as the seafood cakes. I have no complaints about anything i tried, everything was cooked to perfection packed with flavor. presentation of each appetizer made the food look even more delicious. I enjoy that chant even when busy is still intimate and very inviting.

I had been to Chant in years past to listen live music and DJ live sets, but had never been to dine. On my Sunday off, I wanted to take my new, amazingly smart, brand-new, high school senior out to eat. Since it was a last-minute decision and we lived just a five-minute walk away, we popped in with no reservation. It was pretty busy that evening but we were seated right away. Our friendly server came right over, took our orders and we absorbed the ambiance. Very chill and unpretentious, beautiful Asian-inspired decor with chill lounge music playing in the background. As we were catching up on our lives over the summer (she was mostly gone pursuing academic opportunities, while I was working 12-hour days), next thing you know our food appears! My daughter had the Korean fried chicken which was fried and seasoned to perfection and they happily subbed out the mac n cheese for bok choy; I had the sambal catfish with mac n cheese and it was absolutely delectable. The portions were so generous we had enough to take home for lunch the next day. The only reason this review isn't 5 stars is because when I paid with cash, the server asked if I needed change. Ummm yes, I need my change. I feel it's so inappropriate to ask that question because it puts pressure on the guest to overtip. I'm in the industry and understand the importance of tipping, but most restaurants should train their servers to say, "I'll be right back with your change." Aside from that, I highly recommend Chant and will be back.

The Beef short rib dinner is delicious. It is extremely tender and flavorful. This saved the review. Avoid the crab and shrimp dip. Honestly, this should be pulled from the menu. That's how terrible it was. I also ordered the chocolate cake which I did not enjoy. It had a chocolate mousse frosting and raspberry jam, and the menu gave no mention of that. I ordered a Mai tai which was tasty.

I'm always worried about "fusion" restaurants that don't necessarily specialize in one cuisine and this place reminded me of any other fusion restaurant that tries to do too much. Overall, it was a good experience but nothing stood out. I don't think the ingredients such as their fish are fresh (probably frozen) and their "Wok" dishes didn't have a charred flavor which is what you look for from dishes cooked on a wok. The dishes are fairly expensive but you do get a good portion size. When we went on a Thursday evening, the restaurant was not busy and the staff was kind. I would be careful of allergens here and make sure that they understand that cross-contamination is also something to be careful of when preparing your food.

So I wanted to treat my two besties to dinner and one of them suggested here. Asian-fusion is always hit and miss. This was a safe space in the middle. The Tempura Fried Green Tomatoes were my favorite on the menu, mostly becuase you can't find fried green tomatoes everywhere. And with the tempura batter, it was light and not greasy. The wings, which the sever recommended we request "fried hard", were tasty enoufh. I'm glad we made the request, because even "fried hard" wasn't as crispy as I had expected. My Warm Shrimp Roll reminded me of a po boy, so if that's the vibe you're looking for, definitely try it. Was it the best meal I've had in Chicago? No. Would I recommed coming back here? No. But, if someone else wanted to come here, would I return? Yes

    Kay H.

I was happy with welcoming service and quickly served food. I would probably say this is a solid 3.5 experience, but a nod to 4 for no negatives. The food was tasty. I really loved the lobster Rangoon. The pad thai was solid and I wouldn't turn down an invite to go back one day.

TLDR: 4/5. Service was great, food was okay in parts and the vibes were generally pretty good. Good luck on parking. Ordered: Gumbo Shrimp plate Chicken Cashew Gumbo: 3/5 I think I just wasn't use to this kind of gumbo? It had a green sauce, not even a hint of spice so maybe that's the version. I'm use to more of a seafood heavy hence why I was thrown. Shrimp Plate: 5/5 I thought this was great. Just some tempura fried shrimp really. Came out hot and fresh. Chicken cashew: 5/5 I thought this was great too. The sauce was well balanced. The noodles weren't overtaking the dish. A good ratio of noddle actually. This is a good choice if you're looking for something light as well. Service: 5/5 Our server was so nice and friendly. Everything came out super quickly despite the dinner rush. Overall I think I'd come back here to try some other stuff.

We started with the Prawn Toast, Grilled Wagyu Beef, and Tuna Tartare. The Prawn Toast was easily our favorite appetizer of the night. The Wagyu Beef and Tuna Tartare were both well prepared and packed with flavor, although the mint served with the beef and the coconut flavors in the tuna tartare weren't my personal preference.
