If your ever in the Double Bayou area just south of Anahuac, this little place has got what you want to wet your whistle, and fill your belly. Just what you would expect from a small country coastal town that mostly locals know of and the fishermen that pass by. So I got word the burgers were jam up. So I made a trip to Channel Marker 17. The hype is real. It was really good. They have a pretty decent menu at that but my burger was a hit. Couldn't stay so I got it to go but the staff was really friendly and it's CASH only. We stopped in here when we were staying in the area one thing I can say is it is a place full of surprises. It is more bar than restaurant. They serve beer only and the place was full of locals that knew each other. A minus for me is that it is very smoky. It's been years since I went in to a place that serves food wheee smoking was allowed. That may be a plus for some, but not me. The biggest plus was the food. Hubby had fried shrimp and oysters and I had had the wings, which were battered and fried, the jalapeno bites and the shrimp. The first two items were good, traditional bar food but the shrimp was out of this world good. I don't remember what it was called and my picture is after I ate most of them but the shrimp balls on garlic bread were to die for. Soooo good. Nice view and right on the water. Service was good. Got raw oysters for an appetizer and they were small and not on the half shell so not fresh shucked. They did give me several more than a dozen because they were small. Also got crab stuffed shrimp appetizer. Good size and texture. Little too much breading but good flavor. Ordered 1/2 Mommas "kick ass" shrimp. and 1/2 Jimbos "bad ass" oysters as an entree. Both were good but the I really liked the shrimp more. It was served in a garlic butter with garlic bread for dipping. Total bill including tip and iced tea was $45 and I felt the value was good and extra points again for the view. read more

The staff is friendly and the beer is perfectly chilled and fairly priced. The back porch overlooks the bayou and is quite comfortable in the afternoon. The food is cooked fresh on site. If you're looking for a real treat, try the Momma's kick ass shrimp you won't regret it. read more

I was only going to give 1 star but then I remembered the crab balls were pretty good and probably deserved a star of their own. We arrived here because we were looking for the Hurricane Restaurant. When we arrived we found out the Hurricane was closed down. The girl at the little store told us about the Channel Marker that was just a few blocks over so we decided to give it a try. We walk into a VERY dark BAR. This is not really a restaurant, it is a BAR!! We sat down in the most well lit corner we could find and the waitress came over and turned on a light for us. Our table was a huge round table that rocked back and forth each time you moved an elbow or picked up a drink or napkin. The weird part was, it wasn't something that could be fixed with a few sugar packets under a foot, it was the table top itself that was wobbly. We ordered a water and diet coke and were brought a bottled water and a soda in a can (no glass with ice for the soda). We ordered crab balls ($5.95 for 3 golf ball size balls) and two large fried shrimps meals ($14.95 for 12 shrimps, 2 hush puppies and French fries.) Our meal was suppose to come with cole slaw but we were told "we don't have any, it's been recalled and we don't want to make anyone sick". I had originally ordered oysters and shrimps and was told they didn't have oysters because they were out of season. I highly doubt that but... So I ordered the shrimps instead. Hubby asked if the shrimps were fresh and was told "yes". He asked if they were gulf shrimps and was told "they come out of the bay". I'm beginning to think the word "fresh" is relative and we need to start asking "are the shrimps fresh OR have they ever been frozen?" I don't believe for a minute these shrimp were fresh. I buy fresh (never frozen) and even fresh frozen (like frozen that morning in water, not flash frozen like in the bags at the grocery) and we know the difference between fresh, fresh frozen in water and flash frozen and these were certainly the kind you'd buy flash frozen in a grocery. They were really small shrimps, about one good bite per tail, but the worst part is, they where WAY over fried! They were tough and chewy to the point that I had to floss when I got to the truck. Yes, I carry floss picks in my purse, don't judge!! The entire meal was $40 and some change without tip. I gave the flip-flop wearing waitress a $6 tip because she did check in on us several times. Not only was she wearing flip flops, she was wearing what could have been pajama shorts and a spaghetti string tank top. This seems to be a dive bar hangout that the locals frequent. Everyone that came in seemed to know each other. We did hear a good story that went something like this (names changed)... "yeah, we went to the rodeo last night. Jimbo said 'come on guys let's get outta here, I've already loaded the horses and everything.' When we got home and went to unload the trailer it was empty. We were freaking out wondering what happened. We went back to the rodeo and found the horses. Jimbo had been drinking all night. He loaded the horses into some else's trailer."
