I find the rates here quite competitive, especially for USD…read more I prefer to come here rather than the popular VBC inside metrotown. The line is shorter here and there is street parking right outside. Quite convenient if you drive and there is a parking spot available. I also like the fact you can do e-transfer or debit card transaction without extra fees. Much safer than carrying large sum of cash for changing currencies. Recommended!

However, what keeps this from being 5 stars is a rather cold and unfriendly welcome. The woman behind the counter did the exchange but showed no friendliness. Also, although I checked the rate on their website before I went in, I got less than the rate quoted. I know exchange rates fluctuate but this was a very rapid drop. Also, the owner was there and walked right past us as we were leaving, but instead of acknowledging us in any way, he averted his eyes and looked at the floor. Is it just too much effort to look at your customers and say "Thanks for coming in," or similar or even just a friendly smile? We felt completely unwelcome and will go elsewhere for future currency exchanges. How you treat your customers DOES matter.

Yes, this place is at Crystal mall, but the access is on the outside of the mall on the Kingsway side, and it's a very secure place, you enter a door, where it is locked, and they are watching you, then you hear a buzzer to get to the next location which is to change your money. I have never had a bad experience here, and their hours of operation are really good, just don't come on Sunday cause you won't get anything.

I am a long time customer with Happy Currency Exchange…read more I went to the Richmond location to do a money transfer. I was in the middle of transaction. A middle-aged woman who served me suddenly left and served with another client for money exchange. I waited for her about 10 minutes....I told her you should let me finish my case first then next. but she said "I shouldn't come here anymore because I didn't like the way she did." And she told me to find another agency! She told me again don't come back! At that time there was not any customers and that she was very disrespectful to me! It is a real bad customer service!

Very good rates and no minimum amount, perfect for getting rid of CAD at end of your trip…read more Airports and hotels will charge much more. For example today I paid around 1.31 CAD per USD. The spot rate is 1.3, so really close. The airport one ICE wants to charge $1.35 right now and has $40 minimum. My hotel is probably 1.4 - their buy rate was 1.2 so I assume sell is equally high. The lady who helped me was friendly and inside was clean and air conditioned (a surprisingly rare thing here). Please note that the location on Yelp is wrong. They are no longer located on number 3 road. They are located in the Wal Mart plaza a little east of their old location. I have submitted this change to Yelp.

For some of the 1 oz Maples and other non-Maples, I was offered less than the advertised buyback price, even though when I bought them a few months ago from the same business, they charged me the same selling price regardless of whether they were Maples or not. More specifically, they bought them back at the US 1 oz round price, which was less than the Maple price. Disgusting sleight of hand antic by VBCE.

They could probably use an extra staff member or two, though one teller was tied up with a customer arguing about using his wife's ID. My own exchange was quick and easy. As others have mentioned, ask for the preferred rate for best results.
