I used to shop here all the time when I lived in Evanston. I started going to another beauty supply store that was closer to two other retail stores I occasionally shop in. But that store needs serious upgrades when it comes to technology and using Google Wallet. After several tries, I gave up and left. I was on my way home to grab my wallet so I could pay the old-fashioned way (even though I never carry cash) and I slowed down next to my old "regular" spot. I walked in. There was a Black woman cashier smiling at me, who was very friendly and professional. My digital wallet worked there. They even charge less. I told her I was going to start coming to this location more often. The only con I have is it really is cramped in the store. They have entirely too many shelves so they can have more inventory. You're definitely not going to walk down the aisle with another person. Someone has to leave for you to walk in. But I pretty much only go in beauty supply stores for facial cleaners, relaxers, eyebrow razors and headwraps. None of those items would make me have to hang around for very long or need a whole lot of assistance. In all of my in-and-out visits, zero problems. There used to be a dark-haired Asian man at the register who was kinda quiet and laidback. Even during the pandemic when the store required ordering online and picking up curbside, he was usually the person who came outside. No issues. I cannot recall one bad incident in several years of going there, so kudos to them.

The wig section was closed off. That should have been our first red flag. The rope was removed for us to enter. As we looked around a lady came over and asked if we needed help. She proceeds to find the first wig for us. We asked to try on and she explained we needed to try on sample. No problem. We asked for a wig cap. She gave. We tried on wig and she gives us instruction on how to essentially not damage the display wig by playing in it....odd, but ok. No problem. We ask for a 2nd wig and we tried on without incident. Wig was a no. Asked for a 3rd option and she proceeds to say that they have a 2 try on policy. It was at that moment that I look at her, looked around the room to see all these rules and policies, and thought to myself, wow....after everything, ya'll still treat us like this? We say no problem, we proceed to walk away and she stops us and makes an 'exception'. We continued our purchase without further incident. I should have walked away. I should have given her this feedback at that very moment. But I know that anti Black hate was learned. And the best way I can make my feedback heard is by posting a review. I will no longer shop here. I will do more intentional research on Black owned supply stores in the area or at the very least, be more mindful of anti Black establishments in Rogers Park.

Valet parking may be a better option but prices vary. This studio provides classes and today's option was a do it yourself facial. Everything was provided; three different charcoal based powders, use one or blend all. I chose matcha and charcoal. Three different liquid mixers; organic cherry juice, green tea and rice milk. Each having a different set of benefits for your skin. After mixing our choice of concoctions, we cleansed with 100% natural oils using our knuckles to stimulate lymphatic drainage and massage. Followed by a nice steam from a hot towel. Then began the application of our charcoal masks, sitting for ten to twelve minutes. Love the tightening and the tingles. This is a BYOB so as the masks are drying, we are happily sipping and enjoying each other's company. The final process was to hydrate the skin and jade roll it. Will definitely return.
