I went through about a month of ACT tutoring with Huntington. At the beginning, it was close to…read moreevery day for 2 hours. But, as I got more busy with college prep and work, it moved down to three times a week. After this drop, one of the managers took me aside and told me if I didn't increase sessions, I would never bring my score up. This whole place focuses on scaring students -especially high schoolers and their parents- into spending as much as possible for as little as possible. They had me doing basic addition for 2 weeks (I am in AP Calculus)! Near the end i took a practice ACT with them where they claimed I dropped 3 points, which was ridiculous as I was studying with them at least 6-10 hours a week, as well as self studying. They also withheld the online portion of the tutoring because, by their own confession, they thought I would drop too soon. I got less then what I was told I was going to get for over 80 dollars an hour. I took my ACT again after self studying and actually did well, increasing from what they said my last test was by 5 points, no thanks to this company. Do not put your kids here unless you want to waste your money and their time.

Unprofessional. I recently accepted a tutoring position with Huntington and went through 9 hours of…read moretraining, expecting it to be followed by shadowing. I had clarified with them before starting that the training would be paid and asked for my employment paperwork on the second day, but I didn't receive any documents until after I completed the training. When I finally got the paperwork, it included a non-compete agreement that would have restricted me from tutoring with other companies in the area for two years after leaving Huntington. As a recent college graduate with limited financial flexibility, I explained I couldn't sign this. They responded by saying that if I wanted to continue my contractor work with other tutoring companies, I couldn't work for them. On top of that, I was told then that company policy only pays for training after three months of employment. I don't know if this was a case of disorganization or intentional manipulation, but either way, it felt unprofessional and unethical. I spent 9 hours on unpaid training and was left with a really negative impression of Huntington as an employer.

Have a kid that could use a math workout? This could be the place but unfortunately, this one has…read moresome problems. Accountability for one. If you send your kid here for a few months, other than them earning stars (nice) but you don't get a report out of what they are learning for your $350/month (bad). In the "old days" people simply sent kids home with the papers they worked on but not Mathnasium. I tried to work with this place. When my daughter complained that everything was too easy, I visited the manager. When she said that what they were studying in school wasn't being helped by mathnasuim I visited the manager again and went over Olivia's records. The manager was put together and knew the program well. But execution on the ground wasn't good and all I was doing was spending money and my daughter was getting very little value for it. My daughter does better when working with one tutor but with Mathnasium she got a different tutor every time. So the system is transactional rather than relationship building. She doesn't do well with strangers. To cap it all off, Mathnasium charges you to break the relationship. Once you realize your kid isn't really making good progress they have in the contract that when you cancel, you need to continue paying them for an additional month (another $350), and to add to the rub, you get charged $200 for breaking contract. This is a very steep cost that an unhappy customer is forced to pay. After later review, the manager decided to give me a break on the contract fee--thank you. So what's an alternative? I'm taking my daughter to SAM-Houston. They use the Singapore Math system and guess what? They bring home a workbook so I'll know what's being taught. And they have two tutors so she can develop a rapport.

This is a horrible '"tutoring" facility. Puts 3-4 children at a table, they do worksheets, and are…read moretold to ask the teacher for help if needed. We were told my child would have 1:1 tutoring two days a week. Essentially an overpriced babysitting service. Complete misrepresentation of services.
