It's very pleasant to stroll along Church Street, especially in the summertime and there are plenty of benches where you can sit and people watch. Church Street Marketplace has a mixture of chain and local stores. You can find everything from used books, to outdoor gear to name brand clothing. My favorite stores at Golden Hour where you can find lots of cute gifts, Smugglers Notch Distillery where you can sample delicious vodka, gin, bourbon, and maple liqueur, and Flora & Fauna - a second floor store filled with curiosities and oddities. Unfortunately, The 10,000 Villages store that I always enjoyed visiting, the Sox Market, and the Earthbound Store that I always found beautiful clothing in have all closed. There's also a great Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop on Church Street, several restaurants in a range of price levels, and some very comfortable cafes. Definitely a place you will want to spend some time visiting when you are in Burlington.

We also visited a Patagonia store, a bookstore, Catamount store for apparel and gifts, and bunch of other stores. Prices are decent, some stores have sales and discounts. It appeared decently safe, though there were some homeless people around the marketplace. The street parkings need to be paid with ParkMobile app during the posted hours. There are several hotels only few minutes walk from this place. There's also a parking lot nearby that offers 2 hours of free parking.

She likes to stay warm with hot chocolate by the Christmas tree. So, for one of her gifts, I found Vermont made hot chocolate, and an ornament made by a local artist (purple for her school color). Ahh... but this seemed to be missing something. Themes are better in threes. Then while taking a walk on Church Street, I saw the missing ingredient! Socks! Or, I should say, Sox!. I tried the Sox Market and it had a nice warm pair of Vermont made wool sox. The store is nicely organized with big signs "Women" "Men" "Kids" You can get right to what you are looking for and then you can get the items at a great price. Thank you Sox Market! ...Ok, the gift may be a little goofy, but she liked it! And, it was unique :-)

Maybe there's just a visceral need to make use of every last scrap, or to avoid throwing something away to which we're personally attached. Or Maybe it's just the need to thwart the potentially domineering will of the woman in one's life who makes many of one's wardrobe decisions and will inevitably rally against said old-sock-with-a-hole-in-it, lamenting the poor sock and eventually perhaps sneaking it from the dresser drawer to deep in the trash can, or "accidentally" leaving it in the washer down in the laundry room, to be absorbed by the next person's laundry load, leaving the one remaining sock yearning lustfully for its true mate, alone and destitute without utility in the sock drawer forever (just kidding honey). Nevertheless, once you embrace the very reasonable need to keep your feet clad in aesthetically pleasing socks that still maintain their original perimetric integrity, the world is a different place. And the capitol of that place is Sox Market. A veritable ocean of socks lines the walls of Sox Market, offering scads of options for even the most peculiar of sock wearers. Big socks. Small socks.
