The good: It was that it was open after 1 for a late lunch. I was surprised about how few of restaurants were available with all of the hotels and the convention center nearby and some of those had limited hours The food was actually pretty good! I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was tender and not dry which I've found in a lot of chicken sandwiches. The salad was also pretty good. On a Sunday, there were sports on all of the TVs which is a plus. The servers were very friendly. The bad: My only complaint was that service was a little slow and that has nothing to do with the severs themselves, but the fact that they seemed short-staffed with only one waiters and one bartender. Stopped by for a dinner before flying out next morning. Service was excellent and food (OMG!!) incredible! My husband and I had the salmon dinner plate and asked for it to be cooked medium-rear. Not only our plates came out super fast but the food was INCREDIBLE! Smelled devine, looked and tasted above and beyond our expectations. The fish was soft, fresh, beautifully seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. Leslie took service to a whole new level. She noticed I didn't like my beverages cold so when she brought a refill of sparkling water, it was with a fresh wedge of lemon and new, clean glass. Attentive and polite with great sense of humor. This restaurant is always a grand slam. Even if it is late night right before they close, the food is impeccable and the serving staff is so kind and friendly. Highly recommend the she crab soup if it's on the menu. Otherwise, everything else is superb. Customer service at the bar was great. The bartender was extremely friendly and had my order out fast. This place is a casual sports bar, so the ambiance is super laid back. This place offers tons of seating. Outside are several tables on a lovely patio. Indoors, you have the typical bar seats (a total of 8 at the bar) and additional booth seating for larger groups. Drink options are plenty for this full service bar, and you can order food both at the bar or from the booth seating. The bar has about 10 TVs, so no matter where you sit, you can see the games. Restaurants in Marriott Hotels used to be great value for the money. The food was downright good. The prices were the same as you would pay in the civilian non-hotel world. You never had the sense of being ripped off. The usual hotel experience is to get mediocre freezer food at awful inflated hotel prices. Or okay food at awful etc etc. Think about that $32 breakfast buffet which has breakfast meats, eggs and pancakes. * * * Marriott continues to provide extremely good food. If you are tired and hungry, Marriott will take care of you. The good value proposition has been thrown aside. The Marriott chain is now all about squeezing the customer for every dollar they can. The prices at Champions are eye-opening high. Marriott continues to charge for internet - unless you join their frequent flyer club so they can send you ads. They now have an offer to sell you Marriott towels and sheets. No prices are listed in the brochure. I find Marriott's pricing policies offensive. I have the same problem with Hilton. * * * BUT - Say what you will ... Their kitchens are excellent. The food is good. The staff is friendly, solicitous and helpful ... The very essence of good service. So if you are a tired traveler, And you need to be taken care of, And you need to eat something, You will be taken care of splendidly at a Champions. Their food and service are fantastic. I ordered a cocktail and waited for a giant pretzel. They way they hang it up will please your table. It was soft, salty and had cheese or mustard dipping sauces. The salmon salad was exquisite. I had my salmon blackened and it was fresh, flaky, tender and delicious . I love how they premixed the dressing and it presented really well. The place is large and trendy and it feels bright and energetic. Prefect for weary solo travelers or large groups. What really made me feel special is the attention and care I got from several staff members. Anyone who caught my eye greeted me with a warm smile and asked me how I was doing. The kitchen staffer was very friendly as she brought my courses and the floor manger even asked me how evening was on my way out. It's a big deal when a restaurant makes you feel special. Our food was delicious!! I was actually shocked at the portions because most places are being skimpy with their servings. My friend said the shrimp tacos were great (they were stuffed with shrimp), the salmon salmon salad was really good as well. The size of the salmon wasn't big but it was thick and it more than made up for the size. The Asian wings were really good too, we didn't use one drop of the ranch dressing because the wings tasted so good. We even had the nerve to order the soft pretzel! We were staying in a nearby hotel and wanted to watch the end of the NBA playoff game and saw Champions. We had Delta food vouchers for a cancelled flight earlier in the day. Immediately when you walk in there is a huge sign that says they do not accept Delta food vouchers. This was apparently common amongst all of the hotels around there even though Delta told us we can use them at any of the hotel restaurants. We sat at the bar and ordered a few beers. If we could have used the vouchers, then we would have ordered food, but it wasn't worth it. The staff was super friendly and quick with drinks or refills. Their beers are pricey though so if you are looking to spend less than $10 a beer, this isn't your place. Great place to watch a game though. They have a really nice TV situation for sports. read more

Ok... this place isn't bad... it is located in the Marriott Gateway hotel at the Atlanta airport. There is not much else around to eat at unless you want to drive. Champions is a bar that serves some bar type food... like burgers, wings, fries, etc. The food isn't bad... it isn't fantastic either... but with the drinks, the sports on tv, and then the food it is a descent option. The service is good and they do have an outside patio as well. All in all it is a good option to get some food without having to leave the hotel. read more

Stopped by here around 5:30 on a weekday as I was staying at a nearby hotel. Was seated quickly with my party of 3. Service was great - drinks were promptly refilled and our server checked in as needed. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and got an enormous portion! Not sure why all the negative reviews. The food is decent (as expected for a hotel restaurant). The service was fantastic. I went twice during my stay at the Marriott and placed my order to go. Each time I was greeted immediately in a friendly way and helped immediately. The lady working the host station has a great personality...she was genuinely friendly (some people fake it and you can tell). The food came out quickly and everything tasted good. I had the philly cheesesteak and fries one day and the pepperoni flatbread the next. The philly was seasoned well and had a good ratio of meat to veggies. The fries were hot, crispy and seasoned. I had a good lunch here. It's a nice looking place with reasonable prices and a good waitstaff. The lunch I came to had a buffet rather than the regular menu. There wasn't a huge amount of options but everything was very excellent. Salad bar had the basics but they have nice artisan lettuce and good dressing with a few toppings. They had a wonderful roasted vegetable with tricolor carrots and brussel sprouts and some other options as well. They had a wonderful polenta with goat cheese and the skirt steak they offered was very tender and juicy. They did an excellent job for something that was obviously cooked in large batches for a buffet. I thought it was an excellent value and only $17 and everything I had was delicious. So I'd certainly come back and try the regular menu day. The only issue is that they only had one person refilling the buffet and the restaurant was pretty crowded. So the wait time between getting dishes versus when they ran out was kind of long. It was somewhat chaos because some people didn't want to wait on certain dishes so they tried skipping the line and by the time that was restocked they were out of other dishes. So you had to make multiple trips to the buffet If you wanted to try everything. There is some kind of failure there and restocking because at no point did they ever have everything up there you could get in one trip. read more

They had even missed one of our starters which took 10 more minutes to get. We asked for the manager who comp'd the dessert but on an $80 order, that was a very small amount. Wouldn't necessarily choose this as a dinner destination, but better than the grab & go food options nearby. Champions is located inside the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway Hotel. I visited twice during a recent overnight stay. Once for dinner and an Ale - and then for breakfast the next morning before departure. For dinner, I ordered their hot Buffalo Wings, extra crispy - and I requested a side of the hot Buffalo sauce that the wings are tossed in, and a side of Blue Cheese - plus a local IPA. The place was really busy that night. My wings took a while to come out - and to my dismay - they were not crispy at all. And there was no Buffalo sauce as requested. I asked the server to bring me some hot Buffalo sauce - which he did - but it took about 10 minutes for him to return with it. I did not bother to request the wings be sent back and made crispier - I figured it would take to long. My overall rating would have been 2-3 stars based on the wing/service experience - but the next morning, I returned for breakfast. I ordered an omelette from the Omelette Bar - and it was outstanding! Well prepared and tasty!: Spinach, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, cheddar cheese, and sausage. To me it was just a basic turkey sandwich without the bacon. My friend, on the other hand, ordered the brisket grilled cheese. I had 1/2 and I wish I would have ordered that. It was sooooo good and full of cheesy goodness. So good I went back a couple of days later and ordered it again. Subbing the American cheese for pepper jack. It's a great gastropub menu that fails in the execution. However, if you find yourself stuck in the Atlanta airport and need a hotel that has a place to eat on the premises- there are far worse places you could choose. My selections stayed on the plant side - with a Ceasar salad - sans the protein. It was good, but just not memorable. The French fries - a person needs at least three servings of French fries per week (it's medically proven ;) - they're the big steak fries. Good, but a bit too potatoey (if that's a word).
