Hawthorne Skatepark or Larry Guidi Skatepark is a decent bmx friendly skatepark if you ride bmx and are looking for a place to session up for awhile. They've recently begun enforcing helmets and full pads, so the skatepark is usually pretty empty at all times now. The construction of the skatepark could have been better, they have a decent size street spine but it lands you into a small mellow 4' transition section on the other side. One thing the skatepark doesn't lack is plenty of hips to hit and ledges to grind. The skatepark lacks good flow but if you are used to riding street then you should be ok.

Finally, one day I drove by on Olympic and got pretty giddy. My first few sessions were pretty rough, as I was not used to all the new dynamics and my pads were mid 90s and/or hockey equipment. But over the last 9 months, I have come to love this place. Ok, so that was more biographical than a review of the skate park. The other review talks about basically everything except the best part about the Cove. The pinto bean pool. Complete with a sharp shallow end, a giant, sweeping deep end, and a tile/cement lip, this pool rocks. Its a pretty steep learning curve to drop in on this sucker (I broke a helmet once), but once that is mastered, this thing is great. Sometimes people bring boom boxes and play some mean Bad Religion, TSOL, Pennywise etc. That really gets everyone pumped up. Shred this park. Please.

There's a walking path that leads the way and there is some cool art work leading up to the park. While there we saw many different people doing tricks. There are plenty of places to stand and watch. I don't skate but I enjoyed watching different people of different ages doing some really cool tricks. I recommend this place if you are a skater or you just like to watch people as they practice their skating skills.

They especially enjoyed the sewing and baking rooms where staff could assist them in these experiences. My kids also liked the special activities for different days that were in addition to the activity rooms. They had a blast with the go karts and thought the reptile and birds special presentation was really neat. My son was thrilled to participate in some sort of game show-like competition where he was proud to win this multi-colored poop emoji hat. I like this camp because it's convenient for parents. All I need to do is send my kids with a water bottle; I don't have to pack snacks, lunch, or even sunscreen since it's provided. I appreciate that I can sign them up the day of camp and I don't need to plan ahead. I also appreciate the long hours of the full-day camp, but I can pick up my kids whenever it's convenient to me. I've always experienced prompt staff interaction with pick-up and drop-off. Lastly, the staff at the Manhattan Beach location were friendly and professional. Rachel, the camp director, runs an organized camp, responds to email quickly, and is very welcoming. Grand View is an ideal location to have Steve and Kate's Camp due to its ample space. We hope it's there next summer too because we'd all enjoy to go back!
