The team arrived on time with surfboards, bodyboards, tent and wetsuits for the kids. They helped them every step of the way and were engaged 100% of the time. I really appreciated that while the coaches worked with the kids there was always one coach who was just looking out for their safety. They easily gained the kids' trust and I was surprised how kids who had zero interest in surfing eventually tried it and had fun doing it, thanks to the coaches' encouragement and enthusiasm. Perfect combination of fun and professional! They were also a pleasure to work with on email/phone/text amd that's so important to busy working mamas like me. I'll certainly reach out to them again the next time we have a beach party or want to try out a surf camp.

The Hermosa Beach Cities website can be a little wonky to maneuver - but it's worth the few minutes to give your kid a week they will LOVE.

The lesson included teaching instructions on the sand and some adjustments while in the water, a borrowed wet suit and surf board. I signed up for a group lesson which worked for my learning style. It provided the chance for me to try and experiment on my own while the instructor was working with other students. The instructors were very welcoming and friendly.

The first day, I asked him how his day was and his response was, "I love Galileo!" This continued on until the last day of camp. He loved it so much that he made me promise I would sign him up again the following year. Throughout the school year, I kid you not, he would randomly ask me when I would sign him up for Galileo. Once, January came around, I had no excuse, I signed him up and we are all set for the summer! He is so excited and the fact that this year, it'll be at Montemalaga Elem will make the commute much more easier! I loved how all the teachers and staff were so attentive and always interacting with the children. Even at morning drop off, it would be strange if you didn't see someone dressed up in a funny costume to welcome your little ones and take them over the thresh hold into the magical land of Galileo (it was actually an alley with paper streamers...but the kids loved it)! Each week they would work on a theme and continue working on it, until Friday-the day the kids present all their hard work and show it off to the parents. Prepare to go to pick up on Fridays with an empty trunk. You'll definitely need all the space to take home the towers and models they've built! I was initially bummed to find out that the camp I wanted to send my kids to during our week in Manhattan Beach was full. That's what happens when you wait to book last minute. However, GoSurfing ended up being a much better option for us. We did 2 hours of private lessons each day (Monday - Friday) during our stay, and it worked out perfectly. Kevin was super patient and kind and provided such incredible instruction that my kids (who were brand new to surfing) were both up within the first couple of days. GoSurfing provided boards for us and met us in a convenient spot on the beach. They also provide wetsuits if needed. (We happened to have our own).
