I would describe what I have experienced as "gold standard" dentistry. It would be very hard to miss Dr. Chalmers' use of and huge investment in state of the art equipment and technology. All of which is enhanced by extremely dedicated, well trained staff, who are afforded professional support and continuous growth through the use of evolving technology and best management practices. Then add the individuals who are a connected, caring team who coordinate with each other daily and strive to do their best. I saw and experienced all of this care in action in just two visits. Great hygienists, have worked with a few. Solid experience with a dentist who has since left the practice. Concern and review pertains to quality of care by current dentist and one office staff I found highly unpleasant, unprofessional, with a dismissive tone and attitude who suggested I take a "mind over matter" framework in relation to what has now become deep pain within a tooth with a 30 plus year old crown and anchor for an equally old bridge. The dentist asked few clarifying questions about the pain and documented sensitivity, concluding no need for treatment. Dissatisfied with this limited assessment, I asked and was given 2 referrals upon request. That said, confidence level in the dentist has greatly decreased and frustration with the office staff member's attitude along with advice extending far outside her role, has left me disappointed. Even when I asked to see Dr. Chalmer's for his opinion, she quipped back her thoughts in the same dismissive tone. read more

My wife had a really frustrating experience at Chalmers's office. Before her appointment, she called and spoke with CC to ask about the x-ray requirements. She was told that no x-rays would be pushed on her and that she could decide what she was comfortable with. But when she arrived, they immediately forced her to get x-rays. She agreed to six bitewings, but for some reason, they took an extra one. Then the doctor came in and told her they wouldn't clean her teeth unless she got a full set of x-rays plus a pano. This was completely different from what she was told over the phone--total bait-and-switch. If they had been upfront about their policy, she wouldn't have wasted her time. When Katie suggested I contact Dr. Chalmers for a small cavity I had, I asked, "Does he work on adults?" I had only been in the office with my son as he had braces applied and adjusted. All I could recall seeing there were kids. Turns out he groups them together, or with school schedules, it just happens. I'd often been impressed with the friendliness of the staff and Dr. Chalmers' flexibility. When Will first received his braces, he knocked one off and they scheduled us back in right away to replace it. Regarding scheduling, we typically arrive early and are always seen early or on time. Dr. Chalmers is awesome. Always explaining options for dental procedures and showing X-Ray and photo images of conditions. They've been flexible on billing and overall just fantastic to visit. As with most people, I have never enjoyed going to the dentist. However, after joining the Chalmers' Dental "Family" and experiencing their professionalism, kindness, understanding, and total concern for the patient, my attitude towards dentist visits has definitely changed. Although I still don't really "enjoy" the visits, I no longer avoid the visits. Chalmers dental does not recommend or condone unnecessary dental procedures and always has the patient's best interest as their top priority! I'm not afraid of dentists and I was in need of a new dentist that could bill my insurance directly. I made an appointment at Chalmers Dental at the recommendation of a friend. My first appointment was a cleaning and consultation, where a full exam and X-rays were taken. They were efficient and very friendly and it put my mind at ease because I needed a lot of work done before I move overseas. They were very professional and I was referred to an outside endodontist for a root canal and a periodontist for a gum grafting. After my root canal was completed, I had a sore jaw, but I made the suggested three hour appointment with Chalmers to get the preparation, scanning, manufacture and placement of two crowns. Something that normally would take 2 weeks and several visits, all done in 3 hours (with part of it a planned rest/waiting period); wow, I was impressed!! I'm certain that this is a common plan for them and I was happy about getting it done in one visit. At my Second appointment I arrived and had a nice Keurig coffee in the waiting room... Then, as we all know in life, stuff happens and it turns out there were several technical instrument malfunctions in the hours ahead. No luck finishing up in one day. I left without crowns. A few appointments later and I had one finished crown. For the second crown they sent my mouth impression to the lab and two weeks later I had a new crown! It took a while to finish, but I'm happy with the results! read more

My husband and I have been going to Chalmers Dental for a few years now and I can not recommend them highly enough. The dentists and hygienists are so friendly and work so efficiently. The office staff are great, they make everything super easy to understand when it comes to billing and work wonders with insurance. They all go above and beyond for us patients. Recently Olivia even took time out of her lunch break to call me to make sure I was OK with a change in our billing for that day so that I was not surprised with it at the office and I could know all my options. My family of 6 have been going to Chalmers Dental for over a decade. Sadly, the service has greatly changed. They used to have the same hygienists and office staff for years. Now there always is someone new and they rarely introduce themselves. Our last visit was the worst. The hygienist cleaning my 7 year-olds teeth was snarky and made a lot of cheeky comments to me. When she asked my little one if she wanted a fluoride treatment, when she said "no", the hygienist turned to me and said, "well, your mom is going to make me give you one." I didn't like that I felt blamed for the something that was needed. The office manager, who never gave me her name, while discussing the uncomfortable visit, herself was extremely rude to me and basically said she was dropping us as clients; in front of Dr. Chalmers. When I asked him if it was ok to treat long term clients in a very rude and unprofessional way, he just kind of stammered and said he didn't know what the situation was about. He has known my family for years. We have never had a problem before. Oh well. Too bad. Time to move on. read more

I've been a patient at Chalmers's Dental since Dr. Morgan sold his practice to Chalmers's Dental some 15? 20? years ago? More? A long time ago, anyway! Through the years, I developed friendship and trust in this practice, and easily discussed things like my 2013 breast cancer - the birth of great-grandchildren - family milestones - travel - and of course, pets! I had scheduled a long overdue routine cleaning for today, and felt a bit nervous about my first visit there using a wheelchair. But I didn't need to worry, because I'll be finding a new dental care provider. Yesterday I received an e-mail explaining that my dental Insurance was no longer accepted, and that I had two choices. I could pay $427 for the routine cleaning, or I could purchase their in-house dental plan for $650 pre-paid for one year. I believe in capitalism! But in the case of seniors, who often have many other healthcare priorities, revenue enhancement schemes in healthcare can effectively amount to patient dumping. As consumers, we all need to make careful choices. The good news is that I was able to print out seven pages of dentists who DO accept my insurance! Seniors, be careful. If you don't care about pricing, and are willing to see a dentist several times a year in order to get your money's worth from the "in-house" pre-payment plans when you have no particular issue with painful teeth or something like that, you will find competent care here. Just look to my experience, and think about how many stars you would give! I'm extremely disappointed, and feel very ill-used. read more

Not only are the whole staff from the front desk, hygienists and Dr. Chalmers, always friendly and welcoming, Dr. Chalmers always seems to be on the cutting edge of dentistry science. Whether its the latest Invisalign braces or crafting his own caps in the office using a very cool cad-cam system or the latest in UV cured fillings. Plus they have a coffee bar, don't preach at your for your less than stellar dental maintenance (come on we all do that - floss recently?) and their pricing is reasonable. Except for asking you a lot of questions while they have both hands in your mouth (but what dentist doesn't do that?) this is the first practice where I haven't dreaded my dental appointments. read more

I love this place and everyone who works there! Went in for an exam today and I have not ever had such a thorough exam done! I actually feel like I learned something about my teeth and my particular needs. We came up with a game plan and everything was explained to me. From the work I need done, WHY I need it done and what my options are for treatment. Even the financial aspect was easy to understand! I have friends who have gone to Dr. Chalmers for years and I now see why. He is fantastic! Those whole office was fantastic! I mean, they have a Keurig and different flavored syrups in the lobby....how could you not love this place?! It was warm and inviting and I felt like I was in great hands. This dentist office is terrible. The deep clean I got was a joke, so I only saw them once in my lifetime (thanks God, that's enough). If I can give them zero star, I would in a heartbeat. The dental work was terrible, but the billing practice is worse. It's the pain when dealing with them on the billing. Literally my favorite dentist office EVER! It took me a couple years to finally stop commuting down to San Jose for my previous favorite dentist and when I finally worked up the courage to find a new office in Sacramento, I was beyond lucky to find Dr. Chalmers. The entire office is kind, proactive about and prioritizes your care, prompt to return calls and obtain records, and just so, so friendly. Recently, after being a patient of Dr. Chalmers, I attempted to try out a new dentist much closer to my new home, but after a year of being unhappy with their service, I finally made the return to Dr. Chalmer's office (that I should have done much sooner). I have been with Dr.Chalmer's and his wonderful staff since they opened. I can't say enough about this office! I know this sounds strange but, I love going to the dentist! Not only do I thoroughly trust the clinicians but I also feel like part of the family. Dr.Chalmer's always asks about the kids and their activities and Stephanie..oh my, she is amazing! I've been going to see Dr. Chalmers for a few years now. Everyone is super friendly and that helps ease the anxiety of the dentist chair. You get the feeling (because it's true) that they actually care about you, which is a nice change. A number of people from my office go there (and it's just down the road from the office too). Recently I referred my bro, who HATES going to the dentist and he had a positive experience too. He even took his 4 year old for her first time to see Dr. Chalmers...and she loved it (she asked when she could come back)!!! That all being said, they do have some bells and whistles that are nice (they will serve you coffee, uh, hello!) and will take that extra time with you if you need it (be it taking the X-rays, explaining the insurance, or talking about what your little teethies need). Even if they are rushed, they try and give you their time to make sure you are covered. And finally, I've even been able to get in fairly quickly for an emergency, which was much appreciated (who needs pain?!). Easiest decision I've made (and kept!). read more
