There was no expression, no compassion, and no effort to provide a solution. Right after leaving, I called another OneAZ branch, where the experience was completely different. They went out of their way to work with me, escalated the situation to their manager, and made special accommodations due to my work hours. That is what true customer service, compassion, and understanding look like--and it resulted in a far better customer experience. I'll skip to the end. After multiple attempts, each time receiving a different answer and incurring legal fees, it came down to bringing my daughter to the bank to cash in an IRA that was less than $1000.00. They gave us a check. For SSI Reasons, she has a cap on how much money she can have in the account, and it was already over the cap. I took her across the lobby to cash the IRA check, and they refused to cash it. On the good side, I was able to buy my wife her headstone. The final problem was my daughter's account that holds SSI money. I had to go to the SSI office to get a letter stating that I'm the party responsible. I returned the letter and tried to have the account changed so I could gain access. They told me that I had to wait until they heard from SSI. I called SSI, and they said that any existing money was between D.F. and me. I checked the account online; my name was on it. I went to the credit union, and they told me I still didn't have access. I had to beg her for her back rent money. Too: Desert Financial Credit Union, you win. Keep the money January 29th, I'm going back to SSI and having the deposit moved to another Credit Union I can trust. At least you won't get anymore. I'm selling my house and will cover expenses until she gets caught up. If Desert Financial says, "I'm making this up," they have a record of each visit and can publish it. When one of the major national banks (not to name names, but it starts with a Ch and ends with an…read morease) responded to our report of fraud on our account by freezing our accounts (appropriately) and proceeding to hold onto our remaining funds for over 3 months and refusing to release them until we filed a CFPB complaint (!!!), we decided that we'd put our money with a local credit union so if issues happen, we can talk with someone face-to-face instead of being referred to some disjointed international call center. We picked Desert Financial Credit Union and so far have been extremely happy with the service. Perks we've seen so far: 1) Savings certificates (CDs) with intro rates of 5%, competing with online-only banks and much better than those offered by most national banks 2) Trust establishment services (shout out to Deivy, who is a true joy to meet with) for a much better price than that offered by lawyers in the area (we're talking in the realm of $1500 instead of $6000) 3) Some points-based system where you get some cash back at the end of the year that already has me gamifying our finances to make sure we max out the potential benefits Only negatives so far seem to be a lower ATM daily allowance and some limitations on monthly transfers out of their checking account to external banks. For many people, though, these issues won't come into play. Very happy with our decision to open an account.
