Infested. Algonquin Park itself has a bunch of nice trails and it's so peaceful out there when the wind is blowing and you have a slice of pizza and some drinks from the place across the street. It's very family friendly and well kept. Don't remember any Canadian geese being out there actually, which was quite a surprise. Happy that the parks department for the town Newburgh takes care of this place.

This is a huge sprawling neoghbourhood park that has all the things we typically expect and want in…read moresuch a park - a variety of trails, a year-round stream, a bridge, remnants of historical structures, shaded pocnic spots, restrooms, a (very large) children's playground, and ample free parking. The water levels for the stream apparently can vary quiet a bit, as we've seen them swell up to a river early spring versus the typical babbling brook. I hope efforts continue to maintain and preserve this natural space for all to enjoy.

4/8/2021 Out of the…read morecenter of Highland, you'll come across Berean Park located off Route 44/55. There is plenty of parking to find, but it expects to be fairly packed during spring/summertime. There is a lake just as you leave along with a playground. Going toward the woods, you'll come across a trail that is marked red. Some of the signatures are not clear as we happened to go off the trail for a bit, but we managed to get back on. Walking further, the lake is still visible until crossing to another trail that is called the white trail. There are a lot of hills on this part, which eventually leads to another trail. I like Stewart forest for both walking and GeoCaching as there are A LOT of caches in this forest…read more A word of caution I will say please be sure to check postings at parking lot if you visit during winter months because while the property is not chained/closed the forest is closed certain times of year in the winter for hunting. While you might find people still walking into the forest during hunting season they do so at their own risk. Hunters do sit out there at appropriate (legal) times of the year waiting for their prey. I warn because I didn't realize this and had a hunter warn me sternly that I was unintentionally putting myself at risk when the forest was off limits to hiking, walking & biking. The hunting warning aside the forest really is massive in size but I wouldn't call it difficult at all to walk. I could say it's a great beginner hiking spot since the elevation gain throughout the forest is well below 1K. I've hit some decent points but nothing like hiking an actual mountain. The forest I believe has something like over 20 miles of trails for foot, hiking and even horse back riding traffic. Some portions are swampy areas so be cautious where you step if you venture off the beaten path. New Paltz / Gardiner, NY - I have hiked and biked through the Mohonk Preserve many a times over the…read moreyears, in all seasons, and it is one of my favorite wild places! Some of the trails I love the most are the Bonticrou Crag & Table Rocks (breathtaking views; the rock scramble is fun and challenging but there is an easier way up via the Bonticou ascent path), Labyrinth & Lemon Squeeze, and Sky Top Trail by the Mohonk Mountain House. On weekends and in the warmer seasons/good weather especially, the parking lots fill up early (like by 8:30-9am). There are 5 main trailheads, and the day use fee is at current writing $15 for hikers or $20 for cyclists/climbers/horseback riders (children 15 & under are free). At the heart of the preserve lies the Mohonk Mountain House, which is actually a private property. The area around the mountain house is amazing but unfortunately it is rather arduous to visit for many due to the parking lot distance, as it's a bit of a hike in from the preserve's trailheads (pleasant & easy, but about 4.5 miles in so that's ~9 miles roundtrip), unless you're a paying guest at this all-inclusive resort property and are allowed to park in the on-site lot. I've done it both the hard & easy ways, so to avoid sweat if not tears, I'll let my Yelp community in on some hacks of less strenuous ways to see the mountain house and its surroundings (short of paying $1Kpp as an overnight guest)... 1. $ - You can buy a $35 hiking day pass, to park at the "closer" parking lot at the Gatehouse, which is still 2.1 miles out from the mountain house (4.2 miles roundtrip, but better than 9 miles). 2. $$$ - Be a day guest and book a dining or spa experience at the property, and you can park on site. 3. $ - Visit during their special annual events like the gingerbread house competition in December or the tulip festival in April-May, passes for which are a much more affordable $15-$35 (2025 rates). This allows you to park at the mountain house and not have to hike in. So there! Mohonk Preserve is one of the most beautiful places in the Hudson Valley, with so much incredible scenery (including fall foliage!) and things to do - hiking, biking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, row boating, and even a via ferrata though that's only for hotel guests - and is a dream for outdoor lovers!

Vendors selling vinyl albums, jewelry, and other tchotchkes. Many have activities for children, quite a few food trucks, even one from Outback. There is limited seating to enjoy a real meal. The weather cooperated. Limited street parking, and the local PD was giving out tickets to violators. Otherwise, it was pleasant. The Messier homestead was open for guided tours and just to look around.

This is a village park which contains a big field with some hills and gravel that does a big circular loop around the main building. The nice part about it is there are a lot of trees to provide shade. There are also benches that are provided throughout the park along with trash cans. It's a great place to go to if you need a day's rest or finding new places to enjoy nature. There is also a museum that contains the history of the two Dutchmen who settled here during the 18th century. Due to COVID, it is currently closed.

This is a great short hike about 45 mins per the park ranger but without stopping you probably can finish around 30-40 minutes just strolling. You can climb up the hill for a better view though the climb down is a bit steep and rocky, not recommended for toddlers. There is also a beach that is full of tree trunks for a nice break. Go breathe the fresh air and get away from the city.

I'd been to the beach a few times before I realized one of the trails climbs up the small cliffs, offering a stunning vantage point overlooking the river. Wish I'd known about that hidden gem before. On a summer evening with a glowing sunset, it's a prime spot to snap some memorable photos. So, make your way to Little Stony Point an ideal way to cap off a day of hiking around Cold Spring. Even if you're wiped from your earlier trek, I promise you'll make it there. This place is fantastic. Split by Route 9D, it offers two distinct experiences: on one side, a Hudson River beach where people swim and relax; on the other, a hiking trail that winds through the intriguing ruins of an old estate. This was easily one of the most captivating spots we explored.

If anyone is deeply into nature despite great views, this is the place to come to. There is not a…read morelot of parking space, but from what I've seen, it doesn't seem to fill up. A map is provided just as you enter, followed by a gravel path going uphill. There is no public access for vehicles on this part. Along the way, you'll see letters indicating trails. These trails end up doing a loop, eventually meeting up with the gravel. The trails provide arrows on trees to follow the path, and it's marked clearly. At the end of the uphill on the gravel, there is additional space assuming for park employees to park or if it gets packed. Continuing, the gravel turns into a grassy trail, splitting to the left and right. Both of those end up going toward 9D into private property. On the left split, there is a bridge that crosses a stream that leads to Wappingers Creek. The only highlights I enjoyed were that and the trail that parallels the stream. On the right split, there's not too much to take in except paralleling the stream on the upper side. Two suggestions I do wish is to update signatures regarding trail letters (some were messing) and provide the letter along the way. Taking a photo of the map is key to make the trip enjoyable.
