The trail…read morethat runs through this park is called the Wappinger Greenway Trail with so many surroundings to explore, and also views to observe across the Hudson River, specifically, to the south and west, Newburgh, West Point, and The Hudson Highlands State Park, to the north, Mid Hudson Bridge, and east, a bit of Fishkill with not a whole lot of viewing. The trail starts as you enter the park, beginning on the right side before the parking lot. There are a couple of spots to park right at the trailhead. It mainly parallels the Hudson River in the woods with a couple of fields until finally reaching more fields. Following the signs, it will end toward Wheeler Hill Road with a downhill with woods. This may go down as my favorite park in the Hudson Valley. The judging belongs to you.

This is a village park which contains a big field with some hills and gravel that does a big circular loop around the main building. The nice part about it is there are a lot of trees to provide shade. There are also benches that are provided throughout the park along with trash cans. It's a great place to go to if you need a day's rest or finding new places to enjoy nature. There is also a museum that contains the history of the two Dutchmen who settled here during the 18th century. Due to COVID, it is currently closed.

Vendors selling vinyl albums, jewelry, and other tchotchkes. Many have activities for children, quite a few food trucks, even one from Outback. There is limited seating to enjoy a real meal. The weather cooperated. Limited street parking, and the local PD was giving out tickets to violators. Otherwise, it was pleasant. The Messier homestead was open for guided tours and just to look around.

I picked this trail out a while back, which in fact is part of the Wappingers Greenway Trail. This…read moretrail has four trailheads, considering it's a long trail that covers 2.73 miles. Only two trailheads provide parking while the other two don't. Along the way, there's plenty to take in, specifically the beautiful scenery paralleling Wappinger Creek and the view looking south toward the Hudson River. Some places are a bit steep and the edges are narrow as well - proceed with caution. We personally enjoyed our walk, and highly recommend it. The only issue that needs to be fixed is the bridge, located near the Market Street trailhead.
