(My business partner and I are considering a new '1099' distributor company, if it is deemed financially feasible) I am a former commercial lender and was accredited by Dun and Bradstreet as a Financial Analyst in 1986. (Which I did not tell her on the call). I KNOW when someone cares or is hurrying one away and on to other things. I was impressed by Carmen's patience, ( which says a lot in a busy firm, her candor, willingness to help me and to explain and her services and their low fees. Wow... After consulting with other firms, Carmen was far and away the best for the money. I was also impressed by the knowledge of another CPA, who also took time to listen, but then asked $400 an hour for his 'listening services'. Carmen did not ask for a fee for our introductory call. Wow...again. Carmen, if this wasn't Minnesota (a joke, folks) I would hug you! Thank you. And my business partner, who is female, thanks you. We are truly impressed. Warmth, candor, honesty, competency. What more could one ask of a CPA Firm? When I joked, 'I should send you a Christmas Card, but I can't say that in MN', she said, 'please do. I am not offended by your asking or sending me a Christmas Card'. WOW, WOW, WOW again.... Carmen, you have won us as customers! I am male, my partner is female. We are each counting on Carmen's care and competency. We have no doubt Carmen's firm will yet surpass the professionalism of 'a premier Minneapolis Law Firm' I also interviewed.

It was harder to go and ask someone a question and get guidance on what I needed to do for my specific situation at any given time. Fast forward to 2024. I get a notice from the IRS that I owed some money, not insane huge but a good chunk. I went to SS thinking they would stand behind their work and get this corrected. After all, their fees are pretty expensive. They told me to write a letter saying "this was wrong". *I* had to write it and mail it because gawd forbid *they* could print something out and send it in the mail. Anyway, I did. About a year went by. I accrued penalties and interest and finally got a threat that included seizing property. (!) I went back and my account said he spent a half hour on hold waiting then gave up and said and that I should pay it. All that time, they couldn't be bothered to actually talk to someone or send a letter on my behalf. It became clear *I* had to do all the work. I contacted the IRS, got it squared away, and filed taxes with TurboTax this year. Both the IRS and TurboTax were *way* more responsive and helpful than my own accountant was. I recently even got a few dollars back unsolicited. The worst part about this was SS's fees. They've always been expensive and have been jacking up their fees several hundred dollars in the past few years. The back taxes I owed, the penalties, TurboTax's prep fees, and this years taxes *COMBINED* were **LESS** than just SS's prep fees for the tax year they messed up and didn't rectify. I SPENT GOOD MONEY AND WASTED A YEAR TO WATCH THEM FAIL, NOT MAKE UP FOR THEIR MISTAKE, AND DID A BETTER JOB THAN THEY DID MYSELF. And I'm a tax idiot. This is why I held on for so long. Now I'm moving on. If you read this far, I implore you to find *anybody* else to handle your taxes. The fees they charge compared to the service you get is insane. The only reason they get one star at all is because this website requires that as a minimum rating. IMHO, it's too generous.

When I moved to Rochester, MN, I had to get various services set up. I got my cable and internet services from Charter Communications. Back then, to get them set up, you couldn't do it over the phone. In a way, I was glad because I didn't have that service set up at the time, either! I went to the closest Charter location to get both services set up. It made sense to go with cable internet at the time. I could have the same company for both my TV and internet. I went with a deluxe channel lineup for my TV. When I got a DirectTV account, I downgraded to basic channels with Charter. It worked perfectly. I don't remember any full cable outages. I always got to see my TV shows. My cable internet service wasn't perfect. When it was down, it was down. Luckily, I didn't have the need to work from home. However, when you're trying to do tasks online and you can't, it was a pain. When I moved back to Winnipeg, cancelling my services was smooth. I was pleased. I hope that internet services offered by Charter are more stable these days. Otherwise, I had a good experience with the TV side. (51)

They have so many hidden fees and costs that aren't disclosed up front. If you notice an issue on your billing statement, you won't get your money back. I had Charter internet 7 years ago and vowed I would never use their services again. Fast forward to this year, and I was swindled into a deal that sounded too good to pass up by a traveling Charter Spectrum sales rep. It has been nothing but frustration and headache trying to cancel this service. I could go on and on, but just do yourself and your sanity a favor and go with literally ANY other service than Charter Spectrum. This business needs to be formally shutdown.

Update 5/10/26 - Apparently there is one more chapter in this saga. I tried to sign up for Frontier…read moreFiber as I promised after the pole was removed. They provided me a work order number (I don't recall that number)... no notification and nothing happened. I call the 800 number and thrash my way through the phone tree to a person - they have no record of the work order or any work order at my address. (The phone tree is nearly impossible to navigate if you do not have an account number with them, also, it appears the "account phone number" is NOT my phone number.) A couple weeks pass and someone calls me. I relate the issues, a second work order is opened (#070644356). Frontier needs to do a "credit check", so I log into the 3 agencies and temporarily lift my freeze. They email me requesting proof of ID, so I email an image of my drivers license. I also download the "app" as requested so I can check when the tech will arrive. It says the order is in process. 4 weeks pass, it is now May and I get a call from (800-921-8101). I explain the history, they cannot locate the work order. We go through the whole thing for the 3rd time. I lift my 3 credit blocks AGAIN. Credit check is OK, but I'm told for some reason my account was charged $40 for the check. Frontier sales gives me a number I can call to get it removed from my account (866) 293-7026 (question - why should the customer do this?) but the "auto-answer" bot at thast number keeps asking for my "id number" when I call (what ID number?) - useless. We are now on Order# 070656860. I log into my account, they need "Positive ID" again - I attach another copy of my drivers license... I hear crickets. In a week I check the Frontier app on my phone. Apparently they have been trying to contact me (the right phone number might help). There is nothing in my email or junk mail folders. There is NO WAY for me to contact anyone from the app (except the 800 number that you can't get through, and GIGA is useless - (cannot locate the order number, phone number does not match, no "orders" for my address, etc). I log into my account at FRONTIER.COM and I have a message... "They Need Positive ID" AGAIN! At this point I AM DONE! I called the 800-921-8101 to cancel, but of course it could not find my order number, by phone or address. My only solution - I wrote a TEXT message listing the order numbers and requested they be canceled, made a PDF image out of it and attached it in place of my "ID Image" they were requesting. FRONTIER - I tried, but you and your systems are too hard to work with. (BTW - one phone call to a non-800 Greenlight number, information given, no credit checks, installation date AND TIME scheduled all by the SAME PERSON on the SAME CALL, I was emailed account and status info, and 1 week later I'm on Greenlight Fiber.) Who would YOU want to work with?

Two weeks ago, coming home from a trip we noticed that there was no dial tone, so we called Frontier. We got a date for a tech to come out nine days later. Quite a long time without service we are paying for, but oh well. On the day the tech was supposed to come we made sure to be home, waited all day and then found out at night that our service had been rescheduled for 12 (!) days later, which will be three weeks after we reported it. No reason, no contact! We called a number of times but either got no explanation let alone solution, or promises ("we will put you on the emergency list, someone should be there today or tomorrow") which never materialized. This isn't terrible customer service, it's NO customer service. Fortunately there are alternatives so that we can soon say goodbye to Frontier.

During my membership, I went on three total dates through the service: two in Minnesota and one in Denver. I'm giving two stars because, contractually, IJL did provide the service I signed up for. I received introductions, went on dates, and had communication with my matchmaker. However, there is a big difference between technically providing a matchmaking service and providing a high-quality, personalized matchmaking experience. For the amount of money I invested, I expected much more from the latter. The initial consultation was actually the strongest part of my experience. It was discovery-focused. I was asked thoughtful questions about who I am, what I value, and what I'm looking for in a partner. That conversation was part of what gave me confidence to sign up. Unfortunately, I did not feel that same level of curiosity continued after becoming a client. The experience became much more sales-oriented than discovery-oriented. I frequently felt talked at rather than asked questions. Instead of conversations being centered around "What are we learning about you from these dates?" or "Why has this become important to you?", I often felt like information was being presented to me and I was being encouraged to reconsider preferences I had already communicated. My final conversation with Natalie really crystallized the issue for me. After I declined several proposed matches, we discussed why. I explained that through the dating process I had realized consistent physical fitness was an important lifestyle compatibility requirement for me. Rather than feeling like there was curiosity around why that had become important, I felt like I was being challenged and persuaded to broaden the definition of what I should accept. At one point during that conversation, I directly communicated that the interaction was beginning to feel aggressive to me and that I felt like I was being attacked for saying no. I needed to stop for a moment and breathe before continuing the conversation. I work in sales myself, so I understand persuasion, objection handling, and challenging assumptions. Those skills have their place. But I wasn't looking for a dating coach or someone to overcome my objections. I was paying for a matchmaker. I wanted someone who was curious, reflective, collaborative, and interested in deeply understanding my values before suggesting alternatives. A matchmaker should certainly challenge a client occasionally, but I believe understanding needs to come before persuasion. As a client goes on dates and learns more about what does and doesn't work for them, that feedback should be valuable information that makes subsequent matches more intentional. This was especially important for me because I was not living locally in Minneapolis. Two of my introductions were in Minnesota and one was arranged while I was traveling in Denver. Participating in the service required substantial travel, scheduling, and expense on my end, so I needed to be intentional about which introductions I accepted. Ultimately, I realized I was putting far more time and emotional energy into trying to make the matchmaking process work than I wanted to. When I decided to cancel, the company offered to put my membership on hold until I moved back to Minnesota. I declined and asked to proceed with cancellation. To their credit, that conversation was handled professionally and my cancellation request was processed without an issue. I don't believe this service will necessarily be a poor fit for everyone. Someone who wants more coaching or appreciates being encouraged to broaden their dating criteria may have a very different experience. For me, however, a premium personalized matchmaking service should be exceptionally good at listening, asking questions, understanding compatibility, and continually learning about the client through each introduction. My experience felt much more sales-heavy than I expected, and ultimately the quality of the matchmaking and communication did not justify the investment for me.
