(My business partner and I are considering a new '1099' distributor company, if it is deemed financially feasible) I am a former commercial lender and was accredited by Dun and Bradstreet as a Financial Analyst in 1986. (Which I did not tell her on the call). I KNOW when someone cares or is hurrying one away and on to other things. I was impressed by Carmen's patience, ( which says a lot in a busy firm, her candor, willingness to help me and to explain and her services and their low fees. Wow... After consulting with other firms, Carmen was far and away the best for the money. I was also impressed by the knowledge of another CPA, who also took time to listen, but then asked $400 an hour for his 'listening services'. Carmen did not ask for a fee for our introductory call. Wow...again. Carmen, if this wasn't Minnesota (a joke, folks) I would hug you! Thank you. And my business partner, who is female, thanks you. We are truly impressed. Warmth, candor, honesty, competency. What more could one ask of a CPA Firm? When I joked, 'I should send you a Christmas Card, but I can't say that in MN', she said, 'please do. I am not offended by your asking or sending me a Christmas Card'. WOW, WOW, WOW again.... Carmen, you have won us as customers! I am male, my partner is female. We are each counting on Carmen's care and competency. We have no doubt Carmen's firm will yet surpass the professionalism of 'a premier Minneapolis Law Firm' I also interviewed.

Based on a referral by a colleague I decided on Medcity taxes. Big mistake. Theirs follow up is dismal and pretty much non-existent. I am still waiting to get my taxes done from 2017!!! Part of the delay was my fault, but the lack of follow up and care by this company made this whole issue a joke. To the point were I received a letter from the IRS telling me that my taxes from 2017 we're never submitted? Needless to say I went back to Boyer in Burnsville for my 2018 taxes, which incidentally are done and history.

I don't know what happened but last year my children also took advantage of being local to Rochester and had nothing but issues trying to get their taxes filed which ended up being late. Last year I also had an issue with processing my business taxes. Our son sent his taxes in with ours and when his was returned our entire personal file was in the envelop with his completed taxes. When we accidently found our information in the envelope we called the office immediately. I asked how they were doing on our taxes and ironically our information wasn't there. I told them that I was holding our entire personal file that was in our sons return envelope. Well I sent the entire file to them mid March and got our tax information processed then after e-filing we got a late payment penalty of $400 total. This was 100% their fault and they tried to have me generate a letter requesting forgiveness from the IRS for late filing. I refused and after several messages and threating to go to small claims I finally got a check from Med City to reimburse us for having to pay the late fee. So happy to be working with a different accountant this year and away from Med City.

I bet you received your refund and within a much quicker time period than you expected, as we all were wondering how long we may have to wait for our refund. I have had my taxes done with Darlene Haack for over 40 years. Greg Nelson takes care of my retirement accounts (running with a software he wrote and made himself.) Darlene Haack continues to take care of my personal and small business income taxes. Bill Groby has since passed on, bless his soul. I know there are more than 1500 of us that have been with Darlene Haack for many, many years - as we all were nervous switching from Haack Tax to Strategic. It was a smooth process and now have our income taxes and all retirement and financial planning completed in one place, by amazing, dedicated, and efficient people.

We had a refund on the federal income tax. He emailed me an e-file form to sign and I specifically stressed the importance of receiving a check versus a direct deposit into an account over a couple of telephone calls as well as the utmost necessity of this. Bill reassured me he was unchecking a box on his end so the direct deposit would not happen and a check would be sent. A direct deposit was done anyway. When I called to question him, Bill's response was it was an error. This firm's service is very untrustworthy and unethical dealing with your finances.
