I have never encountered such a large group of unhappy people who genuinely dislike customers. We were already angry about the 30-minute wait in the Drive-Thru dealing with the rudest cashier and servers I've ever come across! One wearing her pants halfway down her butt with her underwear showing! Not around my food please! We had ordered a huevos rancheros plate, two carne guisada tacos, and one bean and cheese taco. The huevos rancheros plate was actually just two eggs with two sausage patties on top of some unidentifiable lump of mush...God only knows... maybe potatoes. DISGUSTING! There was also lump of cold hard refried beans. No tostada no ranchero sauce nothing that would identify as huevos rancheros! That's not even the worst of it...we ordered two carne guisada tacos which turned out to be 2 charcoal briquette tacos! Absolutely no sauce and literally the meat was black like carbon. You could light you BBQ pit with this taco. The "meat" left ash on the tortilla. Then there was the normally mistake- proof bean and cheese taco. Turns out you can absolutely mess up a bean and cheese taco. It was a cold tortilla with mass/lump of hard "beans" with no cheese just dropped right in the middle in a ball of grossness... It looked like these beans had been sitting out on a table all day! Needless to say not one of the items we ordered and waited 30-minutes for in the Drive-Thru were in any way shape or form edible! Oh and the best part, I called the manager, who, after listening to the litany of rudeness, mistakes, filth, and terrible food we had experienced literally had nothing to say other than to let me know that the cashier girl with the sh** attitude and her pants hanging 1/2 way down her ass was not actually the one serving the food...sooooooo... What!? WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF IT!!! HE OFFERED NO RESOLUTION, NO APOLOGY, WHEN I SAID I WOULD CALL CORPORATE HE VERY OBTUSELY GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER. HE DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED IN THE SLIGHTEST IN FACT I WAS VERY OBVIOUSLY BORING HIM! He probably won't say anything to his employees because they are scary. On another visit just a couple of days before, we had gone into the restaurant for a couple of tacos and we heard employees yelling/fighting with each other, cussing each other out in front of all the customers. Even worse while we were waiting for our food we heard a big commotion, the bus boy was coming from across the restaurant yelling profanities at some customer who was yelling right back. It's so bad in that restaurant that there are 4 off duty cops for security. I imagine that manager is probably terrified of his own employees and doesn't have the cojones to say anything to any of them because he knows what to expect in response...definitely verbal attack and I wouldn't doubt that these guys could easily get physical! Scary staff and cashiers. Obviously the manager has lost all control or just doesn't give a sh**! I'd assume the latter? I can't finish this review without talking about how disgusting the inside of the restaurant was. 1/2 the tables were not cleaned/bussed. There were broken chairs and tables. It took us a few minutes to find somewhere to sit with a table that didn't wobble and didn't have the last customers left over dinner piled on top. The whole place was generally dirty. You get the sense that everything is grimey and sticky. DO NOT EAT HERE! IT'S MY LAST TIME! I would like to say that I think it might just be this location. I ordered nachos with melted cheese and they didn't layer the nachos but threw the cheese on top with all the chips and meat under the top layer of cheese. Not that the Westheimer location is that much cleaner but it is and it doesn't smell like piss and stale air. And the service is better which says a lot about this location. The food is extremely cheap and you get a lot but when you order from their lunch menu you are really getting your money's worth. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and got extra rice because I hate beans. I knew ordering a beignet at a Tex-Mex restaurant would not have been a good idea but I wanted to see for myself what it would look like. When I opened the box I honestly started laughing. It was made completely wrong! It was legit a hollow Shipley Donut. Do not get me wrong it still tasted good but they need to reevaluate their desserts. Probably should have left before we stepped foot into this place because of the constant car alarms going off.. but gave it a chance. We walked in and you order at a counter which we weren't expecting. I ordered the chicken fajita salad and my fiancé ordered the half burrito. All I can say is it was probably the WORST dining experience we've ever had. I mean honestly we tried to come up with another time we've been so disappointed and grossed out by food, but this takes the cake. The taco shell was cold and the fajita meat tasted like it had been sitting on the grill too long and then sat in a refrigerator until ready to serve. I had high hopes for this place. and maybe I still do. I see the sign from the interstate all the time. So I knew I had to go in. So I went on a Thursday night with my girlfriend. and boy was there a lot of people coming in. There was a lot of people despite it being hole in the wall ish atmosphere (but it's big). The excitement was building. I mean we were in-line about 3-5 parties deep. That took probably 10 minutes before we could order. In any case, while we were waiting one of the customers in line gets what is seemingly vertigo and starts to get assisted to the floor. A couple workers come over and ask what's wrong. Apparently he was hot (he had not lost conciousness). And the workers stay standing but attentive. No one was getting this man water, which is basically what you drink when you're hot right? So my girlfriend goes to get water at the bar. And the bartender who can clearly see the man laying down says "Sorry we don't have water cups". FREAKIN LOL MAN. She had the glasswhere there! Serve it to him in a bowl I don't care. I mean with service like this and a crowd like that I was like BOIII THIS PLACE GONNA BE GOOD. This menu is extensive. So as first timers, we play the sampling game, different meats and different styles. We got: barbacoa taco, picadillo chalupa, chicken fajita gordita, shredded chicken half quesadilla, and small chips & queso. This amounted to $25 before tip. I mean this is costly for a hole in the wall feel. We had a slight feeling we went wrong since most of the people eating were only nachos and drinking margs. The margs did not look worth for the price/size. After you order, they immediately gave us our chips. In this restaurant, you seat yourself and you pick up your own food. While waiting, there is an extensive salsa and sauce bar where you can grab some stuff. They had heat meters, but even the 5-pepper-marked salsa was barely hot. I'm not sure how they measure heat. A lot of the sauces were empty so we returned to our table. Our food probably took 20-30 minutes to come out. I mean this is slow given the food style and restaurant type. During this waiting period we kept going back to the salsa bar to see if any of the sauces were refilled. NOT. The queso was bland and all the dishes were basically lightly seasoned except for the chicken fajita gordita. So I would say that's the best meat to get there. But still, all these meats were boring and really made me want to drizzle sauce on it. I didn't like the sauces I had so maybe the empty ones were better. 10 minutes into eating (and at least 30 minutes post first salsa bar arrival), still no sauce refill. I encountered a gentleman looking for sauce as well. He asked in spanish. I'm not sure exactly what sauce he was looking for, but I asked in English at the front counter. Waited another 10 minutes or so and still no refill. The other gentleman got his sauce though, whatever that was. However, the custodian said "they making it fresh right now in the back." That gave me hope. But as I finished my last bites (we were seated facing the salsa bar), still no sauce replenishment. Other food notes: all the tortillas are MAD THICKE. I mean it was basically like pita quesadilla and pita taco. I mean THICKE. So i'd probably just go gordita or something next time if there is a next time. All in all, I felt like this could be a solid 3.5 restaurant. And maybe it is, but that service, taste, and price does not match up to the atmosphere. Maybe the sauces are that bomb and it'll bring it up to a 4 star. WHO KNOWS. After this review, I'm hot and I just need some water. And I'm scared I won't get it on time at this place. They give large portions of nachos so if you're with a group, get the real big portion! Now I opted for a medium this time thinking I would know I was drinking something other than a slush. Last time my small selection reminded me of a cola icee. So, this time in my birthday month I chose a medium something. Well it was potent. I sat a little longer to let time catch up. Next time I choose Top Shelf I'll get a small and heavier eats. Now, I had the chips and guacamole which was good. I stopped for a snack after a long day. I enjoyed the fresh natural fats in the guacamole. Man I came here during my unofficial "lunch break" on the job and I was satisfied beyond my expectations. The food was pretty good and extremely filling. The complimentary chips and dip had a variety of sauces to choose from and the sauces were all very good. I received way more than what I payed for which I appreciate. I believe we did arrive during happy hour when lunch specials are cheaper. As for their deserts it was somewhat disappointed I had my first beignet here and I could tell it wasn't good. Great lunch choices including a drink/cookie for under $7 but not worth my risking the food poisoning if I'm judging cleanliness in the eating area as a standard for kitchen cleanliness. The salsa station was an unappetizing wreck despite numerous workers reloading the silverware (and touching all the fork tines!). The counter staff has a super inflated sense of importance and are obviously just working as servers as a day job until their sudden Beyonce' like diva-ness is truly recognized. The clietele is rowdy and cuts in line or forgotten drinks from the server nearly result in fisticuffs, even among those obviously on their work breaks. The place doesn't have the best food it's a bit mediocre when it comes to Tex-Mex food but it is affordable and the margaritas are delicious (no margarita emoji so just use your imagination ) They are strong so one is enough, lol I actually saw a sign that said 2 margarita maximum per person. Chacho's is a no-frills fast food joint serving basic TexMex with horrible atmosphere. We went there on a Sunday afternoon. Rap music was blaring thru the restaurant. We moved once to a slightly quieter location and then moved again when the busboy decided to park the clean-up cart next to our table. Dirty dishes and leftovers were piled on top of the cart-- not very appetizing. On our way out, we walked past a mop and bucket filled with smelly dirty water. The city healthy inspector would have a great time in this dive. How was the food? Average. The beef had a nice flavor but was VERY salty. The chicken was a little better. The black and white nachos lacked flavor. The cheese queso was bland and watered down. In a town filled with Mexican restaurants, Chacho's has a lot of work to do.
