Like others I too had a horrible experience with this optometrist. My usual optometrist, who is very through but pushy trying to sell frames led me to try Costco. What a mistake. I needed a new prescription and recently got a floater in my eye that I was hoping the doctor could check. Nope, I was in and out of there is 10 mins. All she's good for is getting a prescription. She could care less about your eye health. Every optometrist I ever seen would at least look into your eye with that lens thing they use. If you need any other eye care besides a prescription go elsewhere. I've yet to order glasses either my new prescription so no idea if it is even accurate. read more

I usually go to LensCrafters, but they don't take my insurance, so I decided to go to Costco instead. I've never in my life had such a bad experience with an optometrist as I did with this doctor. First of all, to call me into the examination room, she literally just looked at me and nodded into the room to tell me to go inside. No "hi" or anything. My name is hard to say, so I get it--maybe she didn't want to butcher it--but I'd rather have someone try and say it wrong or at least say hello rather than give the extremely cold "greeting" she did. I have a pretty high prescription, and frankly, it doesn't bother me when friends and family are shocked when I tell them my number. But when it comes to my optometrist, a medical professional, that's a different story. She literally told me, in such a rude way, that she wouldn't even bother having me read the letters without my glasses on because she saw how high my prescription was and thought we shouldn't even bother with that. And I get it, but the way she said it made it feel like she was shaming me for having such a high prescription. It's not like I chose to be this blind. It was also strange that when she was done with the exam, she didn't even bother moving the refractor in front of me, which every other optometrist has done before, so I had to slide out of my seat under it. And there was no communication whatsoever from her about what was going on with my eyes or whether my prescription changed. She literally handed me my prescription, and I had to compare it to my old prescription to see that nothing had changed (however, I doubt she even did my exam correctly because it took a total of five minutes). She literally has no patient care skills. There were other small instances where I felt rudeness from her, but I won't even bother typing them out here. It's very clear she hates her job and looks absolutely miserable. There is not a glimmer of friendliness or warmth on her face. This was my first time visiting this optometrist. I'm new to the area and have always relied on Costco for my eye care. I was shocked to learn that she was allowed to practice! At check-in, I was asked to pay my copay. Then, I was informed that my insurance covers a certain amount for the exam, and I would need to pay the remaining amount. I asked the receptionist if I should pay the copay and the difference between the contracted rate and the cash price. She agreed. I informed her that balance billing is illegal in California. She said she would talk to the doctor. She went into the doctor's office, closed the door, and came out saying that the doctor had agreed to let me pay the copay. I was then called back by the optometrist. She asked me to read the bottom line of the eye chart with one eye covered. She then asked me to come out of the office and put in my contacts (the same ones I had last year). I waited while she took another patient. Finally, it was my turn again. She asked me to read the bottom line of the eye chart, and I did. She never examined my eye health, verified that my contacts fit my eye properly, or even checked the machine that measures eye health, which was covered and had dust on it! I strongly advise against visiting this optometrist. I will be contacting my insurance company to discuss my options. read more

Worst experience ever with the Dr. Soo. First, she was 45 mins late and no apology when she arrived. When I asked questions specifically for my other set of glasses, she was absolutely rude with her response and was not helpful. I would highly recommend for Costco to revisit this provider as she made my experience miserable along with others who have left reviews. Agree with what has been said. I also felt that she rushed through my exam. I sometimes got the sense that she was annoyed when I had to ask her to flip back between the views so I could really see which one was better. To top it off, she had me look through an external lens while wearing contacts with the prescription she gave me and said this would mimic what my old prescription was. Everything was really blurry and she said "see? You are no longer at your old prescription". I found this quite peculiar because I had walked into her office wearing my contacts with the old prescription and could see everything clearly. She insisted that my vision had gotten worse and so I gave her prescription a try and i was seeing double intermittently throughout the day. I called for a follow up to adjust the prescription and the office has a policy where they do not see follow-ups on the weekends so good luck to those who have a full time job and can only go to appointments on the weekends. I ended up going to another optometrist outside of costco who said that my vision was over-corrected, gave me a new prescription and now I have no issues with vision. After about a month, I wanted to go back to my old brand. I was not liking the new. Keep in mind, I have been wearing contacts for over 30 years. I know what I like and dont like. She REFUSED to put me back in my old brand. She tried to push glasses on me. Told her that I havent worn glasses in over 30 years and did not want to. I explained why, she told me I WAS WRONG and she has never heard that before. How can she tell me how I am supposed to feel? At the end of the appt. She said I will not change this for you, and you will just have to deal with it since you complained about dryness. Now, Im in the predicament that I used up my insurance coverage for the year with her and still have to go somewhere else now to start over and PAY out of my pocket. "Stop going to those expensive optometrists," they said. "Go to Costco," they said. I wish I had thought to look up this optometrist before scheduling an appointment. But like... she's in a Costco. She's got to be quality, right? My husband and I both went and he's happy with his glasses. Granted, he rarely wore his old ones and is now using his more often. I am a daily wearer. So, I went last month and she gave me a prescription. She seemed a little perturbed that I didn't have my old prescription and she wanted to give me bifocals. Now, the glasses I currently have work just fine. But I notice the coating is starting to creep up and my insurance pays for glasses every year, so why not? I told her I didn't have bifocals. So she kept telling me that after 40, you need bifocals. Really? We finally figure out what I think my prescription is and I go outside and pick out two pairs. A week later I get them and I have headaches. I have to wear them a little at a time. I finally get to the point that I call and have to make follow up. Today I go and after being told again I need bifocals, in a not so friendly manner, I just say fine. And then I go back to change the lenses and fork out the money for the progressives. Honestly, I may NEED bifocals. (I kind of doubt that.) But now I have two pairs of them and am out about $280. If they don't work well, I'm chalking this up to an expensive lesson and going back to my old optometrist the first of the year when my insurance renews. For those that have had a great experience, that's awesome for you. Doc was rude, impatient, and had no bedside manner. In the middle of my appt, the doctor tells me to go wait outside with my 1.5year old daughter. I asked her if I'm done and she said almost. Then she takes another patients in her office in the middle of my appt. I waited over 30 mins. My daughter was crying and screaming and she did not care and kept chatting away to her patient. I have gone to her for years now (more than 5, I've seen other doctors but end up back here because it's convenient). She is not super friendly, but I've been wearing contacts for 20 years and know what I need, so that doesn't really matter. HOWEVER, during my last exam I mentioned the brand I've been wearing seems to dry out my eyes faster than they used to and the contacts seem flimsy, so I was interested in trying something new. She just told me they haven't changed and brushed me off. Now, I find myself in a situation where I can't get an eye exam because of COVID-19 and my prescription is expired. Thankfully I have a pair of glasses but I'm out of contacts and I am much more comfortable driving, especially at night, with my contacts since I wear them 90% of the time. I have not been able to get a hold of her to figure out what to do. She finally called and left a message after I left my number with Costco optical. They are helping me, she is not. She basically said "hope to see you after this is over" without providing a solution. I called the number back but it just rings. Her normal phone number rings and doesn't let you leave a message. She is in business as the Optometrist for Costco and her operation is horrible!! Her counter person/assistant acted bothered immediately upon my entrance into the trailer outside of Costco. He gave me a clipboard and pen and pointed to ann area I was to go into to fill out the form. I told him I had VSP Insurance and asked about Progressive lenses. He snapped quickly an answer informing me they only do the exam here. You go inside with the prescription and choose lenses and frames. They exam took less than 15 minutes and upon exiting her rep informed me I owed 20.00 copay and they are not an authored Optometrist for my insurance carrier. I was shocked as this person never informed of this fact. I paid the 20.00 and told him, had I known I would have gone elsewhere. This is hands down the worst optometrist I've been too. My first appointment she assigned me a very strong prescription and told me that I could pick what I wanted my prescription to me since it's for me. I thought that was odd. I received my glasses and they were too strong. I went to see her again to let her know it was too strong and so she asked me if I wanted it lower and that I needed to choose what I wanted my prescription to be. I didn't know what to do, so I did my best to pick a lower number I thought would work. However I picked up my second pair of new glasses and they still feel too strong and like I'm going to fall down. I am a Costco FANATIC! If Costco sells a refrigerator - I buy it there. Flat Screen? What's a Vizio? We now have 5 Costco-purchased Vizio's collected over the years! Pharmacy? Costco. Cell Phone? The Kiosk in a Costco! Business cards and check printing? A Costco partner from their website? A pricey electronics gift to an out-of-state friend? Costco! Am I aware that some of these in store providers are there on contract with Costco and not Costco Employees? Yes I am. If Costco believes in them - by default, that's all I need to know. They do their homework... Costco has changed me. I dropped my prissiness and now proudly buy $12 - $30 bottles of Kirkland Cabernet - and wait for people to roll their eyes so I can PROVE that Costco wine buyers "know their stuff." Kirkland IS NOT Kenmore! I have come to learn that anything Costco associates with their "COSTCO BRAND" is top drawer and I assume it goes to choosing their in-store vendors. My Frustrations --- built up over a FULL week of trying to do business with him. I called the Costco Optometry's phone number last week and inquired about an eye test (and pretty sure some glasses) for my wife. "Exams are $49," said the cheerful phone person. "Wow," I said "that's amazing." Figure its the volume that having a business right in the flow of the daily 1,000's of us affluent and trusting Costco members exiting the store makes for guaranteed business success. Makes sense. "May I schedule her an appointment," I asked. "Yes" she said, "let me connect you to the Doctor." I got VOICE MAIL. Hmmm. In all the years I've never experienced voice mail from their VERY BUSY pharmacy - must be my bad luck. I left my number Wednesday afternoon. No return call. No call on Thursday either. No call Friday. I called a 2nd time at 10:10 am Saturday (Costco opens at 9:30 am) thinking my wife can sneak in early, but just in case, thought I'd attempt to make an appointment. Cheerful person says "Sure! - Let me transfer you to the doctor." She did and I got VOICE MAIL again. I left my call back number and waited. My numbers follow me 24/7 to ALL my devices. No return call. That was 4 days ago. Called 3rd time today,Tuesday. Cheerful person says, "Sure, let me transfer you to the Doctor." Frigg'in VOICE MAIL. So I left my 3rd message. Repeated my phone number slowly and clearly multiple times. No return call. Their day is now over. I called the Costco Manager (Calvin I think) and had a discussion with him. He tells me that a regional office oversees the various Optometrist locations and he and all Costco management is always very interested in any customer feedback about ANY service less-than-excellent. He wanted to take my number and follow up with me. See! See! There's "THAT COSTCO SERVICE!" But no, I don't want to force myself on their in-house doctor. I am really sad, that I cannot add Optometry to my all the other services and products we count on Costco to deliver. He said he was going to walk over and have a discussion with the vendor, and my protests that I had mentally written them off did not change his mind. I thanked him and turned to Yelp to locate a non-Costco Optometrist. We made an appointment with Brea Optometry with 20 stellar Yelp reviews. Their exam cost is double at $109. Gladly pay double for service. Willingly pay for competency. I'll compare them in mid May following our appointment. Sadly, for me, the stain of this in-Costco vendor operation, seeped onto and then stained the edge of Costco's otherwise flawless brand. 7:00 PM UPDATE - A man called from Dr. Soo's office (assumed it was Dr. Soo) and asked if I had called. "Yes," I said 3 times over the past week. I informed him I was able to call another optometrist where an attentive and helpful human was able to make us an appointment in that one phone call... (Imagine that) ...so sadly, we have moved on. Unprofessional and incompetent staff. The optometrist is ok. Go see another doctor. Went to see Optometrist Soo Cha at the Costco locale in La Habra. The staff purposely obtains "non-network" provider benefit information and charges you accordingly $30.00 instead of the "in network" $10 copayment. They also charge $10 for dilations (big sign at front desk) which are covered my most insurance. Apparently they're not aware they are VSP providers. Also the office refuses to schedule follow up appointments on weekends because they only want to take in new patients which brings more $$ to them than a follow up visit does (usually $0). They also do not return messages the same day they are left. Go elsewhere. Pay the extra $100 and avoid this drive through optometry service. read more

Customer service here is horrible. The young man at the counter obviously doesn't care about his job. Everywhere I have ever gone they call and check my coverage on my insurance. He told me I need to come in knowing my coverage. He told me to come back when I know what they cover. They made me feel like they didn't want my business. I am saddened by the lack of quality customer service. I physically walked into the office last week and made my appointment to return today (1/19/15) for an eye exam. I have been to this office once before back in 2013. I was helped by a gentleman and he confirmed with me that I had insurance and that the information was still the same. I said yes. Today I showed up for my appointment and was asked to review my chart, make any changes and sign. I did. I was taken in for my exam and finished quickly. I was then asked to pay the amount for the exam. I explained that I had insurance and that my copay should be $0. The lady then said "oh well your insurance company's website is down and we are unable to bill them so you will need to pay and then we will give you a receipt and you can bill them." Um, NO!!! I refused to pay the fee and told them that this was not MY issue. To sum it up, the 2 girls and the Doctor were incredible rude and have horrible customer service skills. I came home and within minutes was on the phone with my insurance company, whom explained to me that the Doctors office can call or even fax the insurance company to Bill them. She explained that there are different ways other then the website to Bill the insurance and was not pleased to hear that I was told that. I have found another Doctor and have an appointment tomorrow and plan to NEVER give Dr. Soo Cha and her facility's business nor anyone I know will give her their business ever again. read more

I had the most horrible experience ever. The Doctor incompetent and condescending. Me my husband and my 2 kids went in for eye exam thinking, Costco would have the best optometrist. My son went in first she literally was done with him in few min. My daughter she forcing her to read what she wasn't able to see and was get upset. With my husband took the longest but was so agitated that he wasn't giving him the answer what she was looking for. "I asked her isn't it your job to find out if his prescription changed." She was trying to push me in to different contacts lenses, that I've never even heard of and when I asked her for color contact prescription she got all weird. It's mind boggling how this optometrist stays in business for as long as she has. I had a misfortune of dealing with 2 optometrists at this location. When I initially went into get an eye exam, I met with one and on my re-exam I dealt with Soo Cha. Once I received my reading glasses, I found the glass to be way too strong, so I went in for a re-exam. No pleasantries exchanged which I am fine with. The second I sat down she started asking me questions without giving me any time to respond. She kept on repeating " I'm just trying to make sure". As if to say it was my fault that I didn't make myself clear to the first optometrist and had a false understanding that the glasses prescribed would work for me the way ALL the other readers have worked for me. Very curt, condescending, and patronizing. When she lead me to the receptionist, I didn't even know we were done. No good bye or anything. I am surprised with the negative reviews. I have been coming to Dr. Cha for many years. My family and children see her. She is friendly and detailed when providing information and suggestions. All my questions are answered appropriately. Front desk staff is friendly too. She is very busy. However, I have not had an issue getting an appointment that fits my personal schedule. She has Saturday appointments and even has 6 p.m. appointments on weekdays. Schedule fits perfect for my kids and for me not to miss work hours! Best tip is to write down all the questions you may have and call ahead for a scheduled appointment. read more

I saw Dr Soo yesterday to talk about going back to contacts. I asked her about multifocal lenses and she kindly talked me out of them. I did have lasik about 4 years ago, and before that I had great success with mono vision before lasik. Dr Soo suggested going back to monovision. I am so excited, I can see clearly again. She took her time, and explained everything to me. I am very happy to have met her. The fees are very reasonable and they take my VSP insurance. I will be back next year. The prices for contacts in the optical dept are the best too. read more
