The display case is filled with delights, making it difficult to choose so you're inclined to choose a little bit of everything! Most impressive is the quality, especially the cookies! Unfortunately, so many Italian bakeries miss the mark due to the choice of using inferior ingredients. Not Cestra! If you've ever had Italian cookies that look beautiful, but taste artificial, you know what I mean. It is clear from first bite, Cestra takes pride in their baked goods. Naturally, that was enough for me to try Cestra's for their Italian pastries at this shop in Throggs Neck- owned by Bajram Berisha- who also has Cestra's Pizza and his newest addition, Fiorentina Steakhouse in the same area. Right off, this place smells nice and was drawn to their cookies all looking like perfectly laid jewels, Italian bread and semolina rolls. With their rainbow cookies, individual cakes, etc, you'll leave here with something. I'm not sure which are the highest rated cookie(s)- but my mom loved the Pignoli cookies I got for her and I, liked their pillowy-soft semolina buns. Recently opened, we chose Cestra's Bakery instead of receiving multiple large cakes from our resident family baker. Deciding on just a couple of mini pastries to serve after our homemade dinner, Cestra's Bakery turned out to be the right choice. Now that there's a full fledge bakery in the area, no longer will we have to trek over to Pelham Bay, as Cestra's has a clear handle on Italian desserts and some. Upon entering, you walk into a bright and colorful display of goodies, with Cestra's also passing the '3s' test...Clean, Friendly and Helpful. I was looking for some cannolis for my mother in law who was visiting from Puerto Rico. I walked into Cestra's and was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted upon entering the door and it was nice and clean inside. I ordered some cannolis and fruit tarts. Both the cannolis and fruit tarts were so fresh and absolutely delicious. Amazing Bakery and wonderful staff!!!! I needed help with a last minute cake twice since knowing of this bakery on Tremont and the staff saved me from having a sweet-less party. The girls working in the front end were incredibly helpful and understanding of the situation and were able to make it happen for me. Along with the amazing service, the cakes tasted amazing each time and their grab and go cookies and breads in the front display are awesome as well!! I was so excited to see this bakery close by. Love their pizza shop! I have to say though I was very disappointed with a bait and switch. Was quoted $40 for a 10" cake, however, after asking for simple thing to be added to sides of cake and chose and Nutella (which they didn't initially mention would change the price), the price jumped to $110!!!
