I wanted to reupholster my two matching chairs, they were well built but looking old. So I looked on Yelp to find a place. I am so glad I did! Cervantes was hands down the best one in Burbank so that is where I went. I went to his shop where he and his assistant were working away. Just like most upholstery shops it is a cluttered, so don't expect anything fancy. He had so many fabrics to choose from, I could have been there forever. Luckily I was able to narrow my choices down to two, he was working away while I was picking fabrics so I felt no pressure to pick. Once I narrowed it down he told me the prices after showing him pictures of the chairs. I told him I would think about it and would call him. He was is very calm and said that if I wanted to have him pick up the chairs and drop them off that is included in the price. After thinking about it I decided on a fabric and arranged pick up. He did not require a deposit and asked I pay him on delivery. He took 2 1/2 weeks to reupholster the chairs and I think they are beautiful. I am sitting in a chair right now as I write this review. I was referred to Alfred at Cervantes Custom Design, oddly enough by a competitor. They said he could do great work at a more affordable price, and they were right! I have a mid century solid oak dining room set, and the cushions in the chairs gave out recently. We wanted to keep the fabric untouched and replace the cushions and supports on all six chairs, which many upholstery repair shops said couldn't be done. Alfred looked at two photos over text, confirmed a timeline and price, and had the job done beautifully in 3-4 days. It was less than all the other quotes given to me, and he kept the fabric intact. I brought my old beat-up sewing machine chair to Alfred--after calling a few other upholsterers--and looking at his Yelp reviews. Absolute miracle worker. Our dog chewed a hole in our couch fabric and we started asking around with various upholstery places to see how/if it could be fixed. Two places told us that the damaged portion needed to be completely reupholstered, but we were worried about matching the fabric with the rest of the couch. If it was only slightly off, it would drive us crazy, and we didn't want to spend nearly a grand and still end up getting a new couch. Alfred came to our house, checked it out, and felt there was enough fabric extending under the cushions that he could use what was available. I was referred to this tiny little whole-in-the-wall place in my hometown of Burbank for reupholstery. It was my dad who gave me the recommendation, and he's been DIYing houses since I was 5 years old...so I trust his judgement on this kind of stuff. The owner's name is Alfred and he SERIOUSLY knows what he's doing. I brought him some 80+ year old dining room chairs that needed a completely new look (I was sanding and re-staning) because the old pattern was, quite obviously, from the 50s...at least! He took our chosen material, padded it with super stiff padding (as requested, and did an absolutely MASTERFUL job (as you can see in the finished photo)! It was right at $200 for all 4 chairs, which put his prices just slightly less than average...but my god, I'm so happy we went with Alfred. I'll be coming back for years to come! read more

I had never gotten anything reupholstered before, so I went to several different stores per my Yelp search, mostly all along Magnolia for quotes and tIme estimates. Cervantes was the cheapest, fastest, and easiest to work with. Gamino Decor down the street was rude and overpriced, and the owner of Elegant Designs was extremely busy and quoted me several weeks for the project completion. I even called Burbank Furniture Restoration and they referred me back to Cervantes, saying they were the best in the area. About a week later, my chairs were ready and I was extremely happy with the results. They even spray painted the legs for me in another color to really make it my own at no additional charge. Just keep in mInd, there is no "showroom", it's just a work space with fabric all over the place, but the quality speaks for itself. The owner is really caring and kind too. If you want a fancy looking place, this isn't for you. We were recommended to Alfred by a Furniture Re-finisher. At that time we already had 2 other proposals from well reviewed stores in our area. The proposal we got from Cervantes was competitive. But we chose him because it seemed that he was more a craftsman than a businessman. He may also be a great businessman, but he couldn't have been a better craftsman. They did 14 chairs for us. Restuffing 8 and completely Re-Uphostering 6. Beautiful work. I have a couch, arm chair and foot stool that was my Grandmother's it was cloth covered and well constructed, I believe it's an English country style with some nice wood detail. I wanted to show off the bottom detail of the couch by removing the bottom skirt, but my wife didn't want to see under the couch. So to compromise, I played around with the skirt until it showed off the wood detail but you could not see under the sofa or chair. I stopped by his shop and could see that he was busy and focused on his work. I looked at some leather samples and different types of cushions. After making an appointment, Mr. Cervantes stopped by my house with some leather samples and I showed him how I wanted the bottom skirt, although it was unusual he was accommodating and suggested how to make the skirt corners. I selected a brown Italian leather where you can see the grain lines and it's nearly 1/8 of an inch thick. We also selected the type of foam and thickness for the cushions and the stiffness of the back. Working with fairly thick leather is difficult and the leather itself is somewhat expensive. He gave me a good price and did a great job. It's now an amazing couch and chair that catches your attention and is an asset to our home. If you are thinking about reupholstering a nice piece of furniture Mr. Cervantes would be a good choice. read more

Just had a footstool redone with fabric I already had. They did a superb job! I highly recommend them. I would return again. But the reason for only a four star rating: I had to make 2 trips to pick up the footstool. Very inconvenient. They hadn't told me, nor is it mentioned in their ads, that they don't take credit cards! I don't carry large sums of cash with me nor my checkbook all the time. So be prepared to pay check or cash or waste time making an extra trip to get your things. read more

I needed a zipper fixed on a giant beanbag cover I had. I called around and nobody wanted to waste the time with it, but the guys here were great and told me to bring it in. They have a shop minimum of $50, but said that they would take care of it for $25, and they were really cool about it. I had to drive back to pick up my sofa/chair seating and back cushions and 8 yards of materials because I had to bring my business somewhere else.
