The place is super cute and they have a great variety of cheese to choose from. The only gripe I have is with the staff. We were the only people in there and it seemed like we were inconveniencing the ladies working there. We had to ask for several things that we felt should've been complimentary with our board; like bread. The wine wasn't anything snazzy, like most of the Portuguese wine I tasted over a few days. They didn't smile or ask if we needed anything and they only cracked a genuine smile when we tipped them at the end of our visit.

They have a lot of cheeses from Portugal, which are hard to find and expensive in the U.S. There are other delicacies like pata negra, jams, cookies, wine and more. I was able to pick up quite a few things for souvenirs. Cheeses like Azeitao, easily over $20 a wheel at Whole Foods Market in the U.S., are only 7 euro here. What's even better than the price is that the manager can vacuum pack and seal the cheeses for me, with a little machine, so it was a breeze packing them into my luggage. There is no room for eating in, though you can most certainly have them prepare a sandwich or cheese platter to go.

What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!
