My daughter and I went on a Saturday. I've been there once during Covid for a birthday party so I had been there before, but never just a walk-in. The instructions weren't super helpful. There was a lot of staff available and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to go to them if they came to us like I said, just not a lot of instructions. They have a lot of options to choose from however, if I'm being super honest, the pieces are super expensive and I know it's including all the paint you use and the firing of the pottery but the prices are just pretty high however we did have a really fun time. Usually I don't update reviews just one year later but I have to give the gals running the kid's birthday party I attended this past weekend a shout out as they did SUCH a good job. My biggest issue with the last time I came here a year ago (also for a kid's party) was that the person working the party in general did not seem like they liked children at all, and was not kind or helpful. This time, however, things could not have been more different. The woman working was so great with the girls, spoke to them at their level, helped them when they needed it, and was honestly a joy to have lead the class. Totally changed my perception of what a birthday party here can be like, and made me more excited to come back someday. FPO and I are celebrating Spring with a 4-day weekend, exploring Kansas. We found Ceramic Cafe on Yelp and decided we had to give it a try. For just two of us we walked in but they recommend for larger parties to make reservations. It was pretty empty when we arrived a little after noon but filled up quickly as the day progressed. They have walls full of different pieces to choose from. I saw things from around $10 and up. You pick your piece and then see one of the employees, who'll help you pick out paint colors. Once you finish your piece you pay at the register. They glaze and finish your piece in the kiln and you pick up your masterpiece in about 10 days. My children and I came into this store yesterday to make some pottery. My daughter has been accepted into art school and we made her first school payment and we were trying to celebrate and do an art-filled activity together before she leaves for college in a few weeks. We had been gifted a pogo pass for Christmas and I told the young girl at the counter that we wished to use them. She told me they no longer accept them. When I looked for clarification Alli began barking from behind the counter (not once turning to talk to me directly) about how they no longer take them, have no way to scan them, it's posted everywhere, etc etc. At one point everyone in the very full store was staring at me and my children. She embarrassed them and ruined what was supposed to be a special moment for us. Another employee (whose name I didn't catch- but she was sweet and soft spoken with long brown hair) came over to talk to me directly while Alli was still yelling at us from behind the counter. I had to raise my voice and say, "I need less attitude from you" before she would stop yelling about the pogo pass. I was simply a customer who HAD checked the website and IG and was looking for clarification. The 2 pages I looked at on the website mentioned nothing- I did my due diligence and to be treated as if I were just some idiot who "should have known better" is ridiculous. Even if I hadn't checked, it would not have warranted a reaction like that. I was gifted this pogo pass in December and the info I had been given still had this business listed on it. It is the responsibility of the business to provide information. I don't know what I don't know. And there is no reason to be treated disrespectfully and embarrassed in a store full of people for that. Her actions toward a potential customer were disgraceful and even if we could have used our passes I would not have stayed. As someone who manages many adults and children at my job, I cannot fathom talking to anyone that way. It seems like it's a fun place, but I will never this recommend business after their shop manager embarrassed and yelled at a mom and her kids for something as simple as a misunderstanding. If you're looking for a place to use your pogo pass- Museum at Prairie Fire still accepts them, that's where we ended up and the girl behind the counter was very helpful, even taking a photo for my daughters and I. Ceramic Cafe is a fantastic place for your next family outing, group activity, or even date night. The staff was super kind, knowledgeable, and helpful to our 11 person group. Any age and skill level is welcome. First, they seat you at your table. Then you pick out your piece. There is a ton to choose from, bowls, plates, serving trays, mugs, cups, pots, figurines, piggy banks, and on and on. Then you write your name on the bottom with a special pencil that stays during firing (even if you paint over it). Then you choose your colors, the staff will get the colors for you. They also have special speckle and glitter paints. Next you can outline your design in pen, not pencil. Pen disappears during the firing process, unlike pencil which will still show up after firing. Then you paint! They also have special detail tube paints for lines and writing. If you're a serious painter, bring your own brushes and tools as theirs get used by many people and wear out quickly. After painting, the pieces are ready to be picked up in about a week. Walk-ins are welcome, but call ahead if you have a group of 6 or more. Our group stayed for over 3 hours and they did not rush us or kick us out. Ceramic pieces range from $10-$75 (most are $16-$25), but unlike other ceramic paint places there are no other studio fees! Specials are listed on their website. We didn't do any glass fusing, but they have that too! They also offer all kinds of parties and even off-site painting (they will come to you)! On-site parties are welcome to bring any food or beverage too. Great location. There is plenty of parking. It's also only a 6 minute drive from Jack Stack OP (and many other restaurants nearby too). read more

Love this place! My husband and I took our 7 year old daughter here on a whim on a Friday night. We all enjoyed ourselves. They've got a ton of pieces for you to pick from. It's almost overwhelming. Once you've settled on a piece then you have to pick your paint colors. And the the fun begins! If you need help with any special techniques, just let the staff know. They are so friendly and helpful. There is no sitting/painting fee here which is nice. All you pay for is the piece you are painting. Most projects start at $16 and go up. This is a long overdue review from the service I received when I brought my daughter in for her footprint tile awarded to all births at Shawnee Mission Medical. The tile I received when I picked it up was beautifully smoothe and will be a treasured memento. I plan to come back with the family to have a family craft day. They offer many ceramic designs to choose from and the prices are $10-20 for a piece $4.5 kid sitting fee $7.5 adult sitting fee which includes help and all the materals. We visited the Ceramic Cafe for the first time during their Valentine's Day party. It was an awesome experience that our entire family enjoyed. All the supplies are made available to you and the staff was super helpful the entire time. Will definitely go back and would certainly recommend. My only suggestion is that for prepaid parties like this that include snacks, it would be nice to have them set up at the table with your pieces. Would make that initial display even prettier and you wouldn't feel rushed to snag something before everyone else does (since everyone who bought tickets paid for the snack part anyways). I was extremely upset. When we arrived I explained that we were first time guests. I also explained we had ZERO experience. The rep walked with us and answered questions and my excited kids chose very large ceramics. About 20 minutes in they realized it was a lot harder to do. About 1.5 hours in, the rep comes back over and said, yes those are too hard for first timers. I literally told them we were first timers. Why would you not say that as we were picking our objects. It makes sense that kids want the biggest best thing, but as an associate I expect them to tell me that the larger ones are for advanced painters. read more

I noticed this place a couple of times and it reminded me of my undergrad ceramics cafe where I would make a couple of pieces every now and then to take a break from my studies. I was really excited to see how many pieces were available, ranging from plate ware of different sizes and other items like piggy banks. They have classes for customers to sign up which I really liked for larger groups to do together. You can also come in and purchase an item and pay the studio fee which includes the paint and firing process. I only walked in to check out the place. I haven't actually purchased or painted anything yet, but my first impression was that the prices were slightly high. We just love Ceramic Cafe! They are so accommodating to all your needs. If you don't want to sit in the studio with others you can pick your project they will give you the paints you'd like for that size project and you can head home to paint away. Then you just take it back, drop it off so it can be put into the kiln. Then they let you know when you can pick it up! So you can still make art while in your own home! But if you're like me, we love to make it a play date. Having the kiddos make creations while us moms make something is a blast! Yes you wear masks and there is social distancing between separate parties. Hand sanitizer and so on. Plus the inventory of items to choose from is endless!! I want to make everything every time I'm there! But it can get pricey doing that! But the pieces are so well made and unique it's worth the extra amount you pay. Plus like I said they are very generous with the paint you need. And I've taken some hefty items home because I couldn't finish before the 5 year olds got antsy. I was given a gift certificate for Christmas to spend time (my favorite gift!) with my grandkids. I took two of my grandsons for an afternoon of fun and found the cafe team to be very helpful and kind for us newcomers. I've been here three times in the past few months - once for me and twice so my two-year-old can express his creativity. So, I hated what I painted, but it's no fault of theirs. I was there with a group and think I just tried to do too much. I did appreciate the assistance of the staff. They have a private room so we were able to chat and enjoy the experience (it's BYOB) without interrupting their other customers. For my son, we went to a storytime a couple months ago and heard a Franklin the turtle story. Then each participating child received their own turtle to paint. For $9, it's a great deal and the kids were all having fun. We returned the other day so my son could paint each of his grandmas something for the holidays. His favorite color at the moment is green and that's the only color he wanted to use. The person helping our group offered to put different shades of green into a pallet for my son. It worked out well, so if he wanted to mix the greens it didn't really matter. I do think some of the pieces are priced a little high since there is also a sitting fee, but it's a fun experience for all ages. read more

I have been bringing my daughter for Creative Story Time for 2+ years now and she always loves it. We have celebrated a birthday here as well! The owner is fabulous, always friendly, and greets us when she sees us coming through the door which makes us feel extra special. Suzanne rocks, too! This place is so unique and fun :) I've gone twice and loved both times! They're so nice and accommodating - I always feel welcome and that my novice painting abilities are valid :) The atmosphere is so calm and relaxing which is perfect for long periods of painting (I've spent about three hours each on both coffee mugs) I have seen the atmosphere and staff be really good with kids even though I've never painted with kids there myself.
