We had a fun time at our intro to pottery class at KC Clay Guild. They offer this class on Sunday nights from 5-8 PM. It requires no past experience with pottery, which was perfect for us newcomers. The price was steep - $70 per person - but we wanted to try it out and support the arts. We arrived on time and were in class with four others - the cap is eight people. Our instructor was an artist in residence at the guild and an experienced potter. He got us started with a half our demonstration, then guided us through our first "throw." After that, we spent about an hour and half attempting to make pieces. Depending on your skill, you might be able to make 3-4 objects. For the last half hour, we received a tour of the facility and selected our glazes. Our pottery should be ready for pickup about a month after the class. We had a lot of fun doing something creative and different, and really liked our instructor. If you have something specific you are looking to make, such as a bowl or vase, make sure you articulate it early in the class and they will help you shape it on the wheel. We might return for open studio time to get a few more iterations - it's addictive!

I LOVE KC Clay Guild! I attended the Raku night, but I also bought a cool twisted ceramic vase for only 5.00 that a clay artist made...plus, I got a food safe drinking cup. The thing is, ceramics is something my grandma did. Not so! At Kc clay guild they teach to use the pottery wheel, throw the clay, fire and bake the clay, glaze the clay...it's all about the clay. You can become a member which has the perks of using the equipment, attending workshops, learning and creating. I was impressed with the space and artistry. In fact, it would be a fun yelp event sometime. And...Raku night. I suspect after this that in the coming month there will be clay bowls and vases, and food safe drinking cups, plates and other items around my house. I truly love the art of clay, and will become a member and take the classes. Clay art is very popular, and I was surprised how many people are involved. The bowl I glazed looks very professional. And to say the least, it's cool. It's one of a kind, and unique. Huzzah to the KCClay Guild.

Love it here!!! I had tried to come here before but I thought it was wayyyy too expensive for classes. Finally, I saw a class open through Communiversity and decided to give their wheel throwing class a whirl! I used to really love wheel throwing in high school and haven't done it but once since. I must say, I freaking love it here. Everyone is so friendly and helpful! Josh our instructor is amazing and is incredibly talented! The class is only 4 weeks long but I can definitely see myself taking another class and paying full price for it! The class is awesome and I'm going to come out of it with a few great pieces! KC Clay Guild, you're looking at a new member. This is my new-old thing!! Love it!

Currently, the City is extending the Streetcar line, so there is a lot of construction barriers and road plates to overcome. The cute store has a nice private parking lot with 2 entry points. The employees are super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the products. I was inquiring about leather paints for shoes. The clerk was provided awesome service making sure I understood the paint and all the needs to clean it up. I didn't feel pressured to purchase anything. They offered individual paints or sets for this particular type of paint. They had a selection of "specialty" colors that are made in small batches and a little more exclusive than the regular. Their open stock pens are glorious!!! Whether you are looking for an inexpensive Flair pen or Sharpie, or a more spendy Copic, you can choose from many different brands, and price points. They have canvases, and lots of blank bags, pouches, tshirts and other items that you can alter to share your art! They have numerous types of clay, molding clay, pottery clay, fine art medium and even novice kits. Prices: I shop a lot at other hobby and craft stores, so I would know if the Dick Blick prices are out of range. They aren't, in fact the prices were great! Stop by Starbucks and get a drink, and wander across the street and browse! i think you will love their selection and the wonderful atmosphere that appeals to your creative side!

Well, actually it is, because it's full of cool stuff. Think gift shop + art shop + boutique curio, and maybe that *starts* to describe the space. There are plenty of keepsakes, art supplies, and gift ideas that will run your tab up very quickly. It's all good stuff, mind you, but it's almost like they should have an "I'll take one of everything package". The front of the store is mostly boutique-ish and has a small up and downstairs. You can find gifts for just about anyone, and this is the kind of place where you can stuff stockings or get something unique for that special someone. If you need ideas, then ask one of the staff who are always willing to help. If you need specifics in the art department, then there is a station in the back to help you with various items such as paper types or other supplies. The unique nature of some of the items leads to perhaps some higher prices, but the value is spot on. You're finding gifts, not clipping coupons, so enjoy and shop a little. For everything that you think might be marked a little high, just remind yourself that you probably aren't going to find that in very many other places. And that's the fun of shopping: just browsing when you have the time and maybe the resources, looking at things that you didn't know you were going to find, and in this case, helping a great small business thrive.

I don't enjoy it, now that I know what it is. I tried one, I know I don't enjoy it, not at all, I hated it. I don't want to try it again, I'd like a refund. You should make money off customers that do enjoy it not off those that you mislead. I had no idea a "process video" was DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE OTHER VIDEOS I've watched from Let's Make Art over the past number of years. $100 wasted. Super disappointed with this product and even more disappointed with their customer service response. So many other ways to deal with a situation like this and keep your customer happy. Be absolutely certain you understand what you're getting and it's what you want before you order from this company or just go find some other company to support as from my perspective this company is unfortunately no longer one worth supporting.

I attended KCAI between 1965 and 1966 and was planning to major in Industrial Design. Having taken…read more4 year of art classes in high school in Shreveport Louisiana I had been lucky enough to have gotten a good foundation in art early with dedicated teachers. While in Louisiana I had some newspaper articles written about my art while there. When I first arrived at the Art Institute in 1965, I move into the then new dormitory with a excellent cafeteria and dinning area that impressed me. However, dorm life was a disappointment since I had to share the room with a roommate that had no intentions of finishing the semester and I had one these guys for my first two semesters. Both boys (they never grew up) were always having friends over (who also were quitting) so they were drinking and partying in the room at all hours of the night. I was forced to go downstairs and study in the dinning area to get my work done. I was disappointed in the Art Institute, first in my Foundation Training in that from what art work I saw that my instructors had done reminded me of my first year in high school art. However, I had never liked English or History in high School but I love attending both of these classes taught by Roy Culver (English) and John Burke (History) . My second year I started my major Industrial Design thinking about being a car designer or at least product designer. Again, I was disappointed in the teaching and had a strong feeling that my teacher who was also the Dean John Lotus really had no experience teaching Industrial Design. I also noticed that there were many manufacturing companies in Kansas City at the time that were probably using Industrial Designers but we were never exposed to these companies and those companies more than likely never knew there was a Industrial Design department at the Art Institute. The final straw and the reason I dropped out of the Art Institute was a story told to our Industrial Design class mid term of my second semester. I was already wondering what I was doing at the Art Institute when one morning Dean Lotus came into the classroom with a big smile on his face and told us that he had received a phone call from one of his best students that had graduated the year before and that the student had gotten a great job. After a long story about how great the student had been while a student at the Art Institute our Dean told us that this student had gotten a job in Minnesota with a big manufacture called Church they manufactured toilet seats. I said nothing and finished the class then walked to the Resistor Office and resigned. I was drafted into the Army 90 days later and later sent to Vietnam. I did get the job as an Technical Illustrator and stationed in Saigon where I not only helped put out a magazine there (GRUNT Magazine) that turned out to be quit popular and even today issues are for sale on the internet and even some colleges have it in their archives. I was assigned to a photo unit and we sometimes made ID photos for American construction contractors and after talking to them I decided to change employment directions. When I left Vietnam I when back to LSU in Louisiana and got a degree in Engineering and 4 months after graduation I got a job with a oil company working in New Guinea, I never stopped from that point working in Thailand, Sumatra, Vietnam, Bahrain, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Nigeria. Frist I will say that my early art education taught me to think outside the box that had been an asset in my professional life enabling to solve engineering problems that were though impossible before. I went on to being a Project Manager on my last $6billion project in Nigeria before retiring in Thailand where I am writing this review at 76.
