Following the instructions to mixing our candles ingredients.

Friends were in town for a wedding we were looking for something fun to do for a couple hours. This place was great. Many crafts to choose to do, 2 of us did candles and the 2 did yarn works. They have coffee/drinks and yummy snacks available. They also have a co-op shop on the other side with all sorts of fun things to buy. There a large parking lot across the street. It's a great meet up spot too.

This is such a cool spot in and a great activity to try out! Love the location, there's plenty of parking space across the street. I do personally think that the crafts are a little pricey for what you get, but the overall experience is worth it!

I've been wanting to try this place for so long and i left wanting to come back immediately! They have a bunch of crafts to pick from and examples on a shelf that show you what the finished product looks like. Outside the crafting area, there is a shop with plants, clothes, stickers, etc. The stuff is made from small businesses which is cool! With each craft, there is a video to follow along with. I will say, for the video for the keychain it wasn't the best. They needed to zoom in and do it very slow. I eventually figured it out with the sheet directions. I never figured out how to tie it at the end, so i did it my own way lol! My mom did the moss pole for her plants and found it super easy and easy to follow directions! It turned out great as well! Originally it says the keychain can only have one charm but the employee said we could add as many as we wanted! There were soooo many great ones. I loved how they kept windows and doors open to let in the fresh air. I will be returning for sure!

I was scrolling around looking for the perfect spot to host my annual Galentine's when stars aligned and I saw West Bottoms Plant Co. post about their new Craft Cafe opening February 1st! I made a private party reservation and we ended up having 16 friends join us for an evening of tea and crafting. Owners, Austin and Tristian, have put a lot of thought and care into the space and details. And I was able to BYO our own individual charcuterie boxes as a snack and wine. After we got our tea orders in, it was time to get to crafting. Ladies in our group did the terrarium, dried bouquets, stamp carving, embroidery, pot painting, and lots of candles. For candle making, choose a scents from their other business, Untamed Supply. Just remember if you create a candle you're going to have to come back to pick it up after it cures. Follow their socials to monitor their walk-in availability and upcoming events!

I was somewhat excited for this place. We had reservations for 4 at 445 on Friday. We got right in no problem. While at our table our "server"(not sure what to call them) came to see if we wanted drinks and what craft we wanted to make which we had no idea since we didn't really know what most of the things. After about 10 mins she came back and we asked a few questions then picked our craft. I didn't like there were no displays showing what each craft would look like. This was very frustrating and the only example given was, "oh that person back there is doing one, do you see it?" That's Not Good Enough!! I decided on the macrame Keychain because I was told it was the easiest besides the paint a canvas. I wouldn't ever do the paint a canvas because it's free painting, meaning something I create by myself! I'm no good at stuff like that so wouldn't pay to do it without a template or something. The Keychain might have been easy if the instructions matched the video and the video materials matched what was actually given to. This was supposed to be a fun relaxing creative time but it was not at least not for most of the time. I recommend at the very least 2 things for this place: 1) Setup a display table/section showing what the finished product of each craft/product will or should look like. 2) Make new videos that actually show the materials we will be using in the video and have the video match the written instructions! And also it would be helpful if the restroom was marked as such. I wasn't sure what it was when I walked back there since it's filled with plants and a giant aquarium with a turtle in it and this only a one person stall. Also our server wasn't the most helpful, she acknowledged the video/instruction mistakes but then kind of wondered off. With all that said, I see potential, the cookies were good, there is some really cool artwork, plants, jewelry and other things here, despite the instructions our projects came out pretty good, and parking was not an issue when we came, and you can byo adult beverages. I'm not very artsy anyway so clear cut instructions and examples are best for me especially since I do have ADHD. Would maybe go back but would love this cleaned up a bit.

My husband and I made reservations for date night last night at the cafe. We love the old industrial building that this business resides in. All of the local goodies and plants inside were gorgeous and so fun to explore. The staff were the absolute sweetest and were so helpful. We chose the Candle Pour for both of our crafts and had the best time picking our vessels and scents. I may have been impatient and moved my candle a little too soon after pouring but they both came out so cute and smell twice as good as a Bath and Body works candle. We definitely plan to be back in the future.

Owner Rebecca Koop is the perfect host and tour guide through her magical land of art, nature, education, commerce, conservation and most importantly community. The pottery for sale is amazing and the prices are right in line. Most pieces for sale are both functional and beautiful. There are also classes available to learn the art of ceramics. While this would define most pottery businesses, Back Door's magical element actually lies outside the building. As you approach the building make sure that you take a close look at the front façade; it may look like a intricate paint job but it is actually a ceramic tile mosaic that was 15 years in planning and 2+ years of installation. It is truly mind boggling to see it up close and discover the details and hidden creations in the 450 square feet of art. After you are awed by the tile work, step to the west side of the building and observe the mural that wraps itself around the the side to connect to the mosaic - fascinating in it's own right. The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood garden is also on the property and is fascinating to explore with the garden beds, small orchard, water retention systems and folk art all condensed on to a large city lot. Back Door Pottery is just one more hidden jewel that makes Kansas City a true arts mecca!
