Middle East Mash Up
James H.

After a haircut, I stopped in for a gyro sandwich at CERA. I'd been to an event a week prior and at the event, I tried a summer special flavor that CERA had been offering -- the Middle East Mash Up. At the time, I was so indulged with the flavors of the sandwich, I knew I had to go back and enjoy it again before the summer was over. It was AS GOOD as I remembered it. I couldn't even think to snap a photo before I dug in for my first few bites. Love this place and the staff is top notch :)

What a unique sandwich place in downtown old port. They have so many different cool sandwiches and even make their own drinks! I got the chicken sandwich and it was really good. The people I went with enjoyed their meals too. I'll be back to try some other interesting sandwiches.

Love the mission of this business (save the bees !) and the care and creativity that goes into their sandwiches. They cure and roast most of their meats, they ferment and pickle veg, make some kick-a$$ sauces, and cook on a wood-fired grill, combing ingredients in unique ways to serve sandwiches you won't find anywhere else. And the names! Got such a chuckle reading through the menu and appreciated the play on words. Some this lit major understood, some will remain a mystery for now until I work my way through the menu :)

We popped in for lunch after walking around town. I ordered a Ruebenesque that was tasty and reasonably priced. We found a table to sit.

I was in the mood for a really good plant based pita and I found it at Cera! In total we ordered 2 pitas and 4 salads for lunch and everyone was happy. And full! The portions are generous and delicious.

The Mushroom of Course

Was excited to see interesting vegetarian options! The mushroom sandwich had a generous amount of crispy fried mushrooms. The flavor combination of the fried mushrooms, mayo, and pickled beets was very tasty though the sandwich was a bit too bready for my liking - more of the mayo + beets would have been nice.

I work in an office we're pizza was the go to for lunch meeting food. With some research I found Cera and began to read about them. They align with our companies sustainability goals which made our decision to try them easier. We called almost exactly 24 hours prior to our news for catering and they were happy to help, but would have to call back. The OWNER called us back! Love that they are hands on! Steve answered our questions and took our order for pick up the following day. Sweltering hot day for June by Portland standards, I walked from East Fore St up to Cera. They have outside seating as well as indoor seating. There is plenty of window seating as well. Decor was simple, neat, and clean. I was greeted immediately upon entering and our order was being packed up, on time! Paid easily and thankfully the food was stackable for my journey back to the office. Steve one of the owners helped me stack them and offered to help carry to my vehicle. Great service! Everything made it back with no issues. Everything was delicious and very tasty. The sandwiches were wrapped twice, one layer was paper with a description sticker of the name and of what each sandwich was made of and a deli wrap to hold the sandwich as you eat. Comments like "awesome vegetables for lunch", " this hummus is out of this world", and "these sandwiches are amazing" were just a few that were over heard during service. We have some left overs but not as much as we thought we would. Highly recommend for lunch or catering for your business meeting. Thank you Steve and company for the great service and amazing food!

We ordered Cera for a work luncheon, and everyone was excited to try it. It was really hard to decide on a meal, as everything looked so good! First off, the salads and sandwiches are huge! The bread is fresh and the sandwiches stuffed with meat, cheese, and fresh veggies. Everything is homemade here with a lot of thought and care and it shows. I personally had the Mercado salad with grilled chicken. The vegetables were very fresh and the flavor profile went together so well. It had black beans, jicama, avocado, pepitas, cojita cheese, and a fantastic tomatillo vinaigrette that is made in house. My coworkers, who had gotten the sandwiches, had nothing but praise for each one. I can't wait to go back and try the Dr. Pimento one with house cooked ham, homemade pimento cheese, and green tomatoes. Tip: they sell their house made chaos, hot sauce, as well as their tomatillo vinaigrette bottled in the front. Do not pass up on this hot sauce, as it is probably one of the most flavorful ones I have tried! Perfect amount of heat that is not going to be overwhelming, but just enough kick. While parking to run in and get food can be a pain, you will be thanking yourself for going through it. The staff is great and clearly care about the food they are putting out. We will all definitely will be back!

The bread used is delightfully soft and crunchy in all the right ways. The meat is flavorful and high quality and the ingenious construction of the sandwiches are bar-none. It's a small shop, so plan on taking your sandwich to go and eat at a nice spot in the east end neighborhood.

Urg. I was excited to try this place but the egg sandwich I got (the Ramona with broccoli rabe,…read morebacon, American cheese) fell short. The roll was ever so slightly stale and the broccoli rabe had chili in it (so even though I asked for chili on the side it's still in the vegetable part). I also have a total pet peeve about American cheese. In this instance, it just made the sandwich have a gluey internal texture. I often find it is gourmet places trying to be trendy that use American cheese as though they are able to rebrand it. Sharp American or not, the cheese would have been way better in my opinion had it been cheddar or Swiss or really anything. To be fair, the bacon was well-cooked and the eggs were nicely scrambled. Although the sandwich idea is original (broccoli rabe on a breakfast sandwich), I found the flavors just didn't come together. For what it's worth, service was friendly and efficient. Moreover, like a few other places on the East End, I find this place is just sort of too curated, overly self-conscious, and trying too hard to be trendy. I would take a straightforward breakfast sandwich over one that comes with a side of merch and a Brooklyn-hipster-like environment any day.

All 3 sandwiches were large and full of meat. We got it to go and by the time we got home, the sandwiches were a little soggy from the juices. Still was good though. The Philly cheesesteak was very good. A large was big enough to split between my teenage son and I. The roast beef was good, but I got a blast of horseradish up the nose after what I thought was a clump of Cole slaw, and I was done. My husband enjoyed his Reuben. Wish I could have tried just my order of Cole slaw. Maybe next time... I wished I had ordered the fries after seeing how thin and crispy they were. Waitstaff was busy, but sweet and helpful. Everything seems to be homemade there. Will definitely try again.

We got a seat right away and everything came out very quick. We got cheeseburgers and fries and I also got a moxie float. The moxie float was great and it's the only place you can get it. The cheeseburger was very good with lots of flavor. The only thing was that the bottom bun got a little bit soggy. That was partially my fault for ordering two patties. I would definitely recommend trying this spot out if you're into floats and some of the best burgers you can get around. From the vibe to the prices you will be satisfied.

Sitting at the bar I just watched the guy pull the ice cream machine and put it in a cup. My internal scream "what just happened?" Next I ordered a AC Burger and my kid ordered the chicken nuggets. The food looked great but just very under seasoned. Nothing was seasoned properly. The fries bland, the burger, bland. The sauce on the burger, bland. My kids nuggets, bland. I wish I could give a second trip there but when the bill hit mid 40's for an adult and kids meal it it harder to justify. Glad to have finally tried the place just doubt I'll go back.

My wife was obsessed with their pottery mugs that the lattes came served in. Food wise we were looking to split everything and it worked perfectly. We ended up choosing French Toast, Soft Scrambled Eggs, and the Fried Potatoes side. Every dish would be an absolute no brainer for us to order again. Every bite of food kept us wanting even more. Lastly we grabbed a chocolate croissant to go and that was just as tasty and enjoyed it after our visit. After this visit it is certainly a new favorite spot of ours, and look forward to coming back!
