They derive income from mailed billing. It comes chock full of advertisements. Do I want Globe Life insurance? How about the Bradford Exchange? You know what? Why doesn't CenturyLink deliver the speeds I pay for? When I buy a gallon of gas, I get a gallon. When I use electricity I pay for the amount I use. I don't get the speed I pay for. Now I'm told it's my modem. So I said "if you send me a modem for free, I'll replace mine". So, they sent me a new modem. My speeds haven't changed. Then the bill came! $250.00! Guess what? I think CenturyLink has seen its better days as an Internet Service Provider (ISP). They are relying on old hardware and and cannot keep up with providing users with the data speeds that they promise to offer. Literally, even if a customer opts for the highest bandwidth that they offer, one will just be throwing away the money because CenturyLink cannot and will not provide the bandwidth data that they boast to have. In all sincerity, look elsewhere for fast speed internet, and avoid Rectum Spectrum (Formerly Time Warner Cable) by any and all means, they are plagued with shady contracts and other bad business practices. read more

Worst internet service ever! Horrible customer service. It takes me an hour and a half to finish an 42 minute episode on Netflix even when all my devices are turned off except my TV. When you call they say my internet is running like it should. Bill doubled since I signed up. In order for a technician to come in and look at the wiring it would cost me $85!!! I am switching tomorrow and not paying a dime in cancellation fees! Garbage! They should get zero stars! Tried to get Centurylink to install internet. Tech came out and stated we needed to have a cat5 cable run from street to the house as he did not perform that and we would have to get an outside contractor to run the line. We called and cancelled the account. We now have a bill for service that we donot have. Have now spent an hour on the phone with 7 different people and no resolution. Would not recommend Centurylink for anything. We went with another internet provider, they came out, ran the line and we had internet with no additional charges for running the line. If they only want to do the easy part maybe they should rethink their business model. read more

The absolute worst company I have ever seen! My parents are in their 80's and in poor health. In October of last year Directv mistakenly charged my parents for two NFL season tickets at $297.00 each. My mom called them. After 45 minutes of being transferred back and forth between CenturyLink and Directv she was finally told to just pay her bill minus the almost $600.00 NFL charges. So of course the November bill comes and the $600.00 NFL charges are not only still on her bill but now she has been charged a late fee. Last month CenturyLink turned off my parents phones, internet and TV service for not paying the $600.00. I got on the phone with my mom (they would not speak to me alone) to try and get their services turned back on. The staff was so rude it took everything I had to not scream in the phone. We are now in march and still dealing with this issue. My poor parents have been accused of lying, told to put "their hearing aides back in", told "perhaps not bundle next time", told to "just pay your bill" and been hung up on at least 25 times in the past six month's. They have been customers of CenturyLink for over 20 years and have never even been late on payment. This company has completely stressed out my parents. My dad is a blind disabled veteran and my mom is fighting cancer. They are both so upset about this whole situation. To treat people, especially the elderly the way CenturyLink has treated my parents is disgusting! Shame on you CenturyLink!!! I am filing a complaint with the FCC, BBB and as many other agencies I can. We must protect our elderly and especially our Veterans. read more

The service is extremely slow! They cut off our service (for no apparent reason) and the bill is not due until the 5th! Today is the 1st!! I called them and was transferred THREE times and Still NO answer as to WHY it had been cut off!!! I also found out that the highest speed of internet offered in my area is 20mbs!!! That is crap!!! Horrible customer service. Every time I called for help with service I was on hold for over 30 minutes. When I moved a needed to disconnect they sent me back and forth to different representatives to ultimately keep me on hold for over an hour to end up still not being able to disconnect because nobody ever came back on the line. Finally when I was able to disconnect they sent I had a disconnection fee even though their service wasn't available in the area I was moving to which was a few miles away from the original installation. read more

I wish i could give it zero stars! Worst, greediest-internet-service in Yuma, AZ; i move to a new house, so i call century link to get internet service, because i thought it was going to be better than my last internet provider; men was i wrong! As i was talking to them in the phone, giving them all my information, my brother-in-law, walk in, and i explain to him that i had just call century link, my brother-in-law told me not to get their internet service, as he was a former user,& said the internet was extremely slow, and not worth the price. So, while i was still talking in the phone, talking to Century Link, i change my mind. i told the guy at the phone i had change my mind and i didn't want the service anymore; He started asking me all this questions about why i had change my mind, and other dumb irrelevant questions. I told him i just didn't want it anymore, and that i had to go. The guy said it was fine, and told me he would cancel it. 7 days later, a guy from Century Link show up at my house! He said he was sent by the company, to set up the internet service, i told the men that i had cancel the service; the guy look confuse, but after wasting what it seems like eternity, he finally left. BUT WAIT! HERE'S THE GOOD PART.. around a month later an internet bill arrive at my house! Guess who? it was none other than Century Link, even though i never had their service in my house! I was now irritated, and i call century link immediately; They basically told me that when i cancel the service, it was late in the day, so the "other" staff members didn't get the message. But how convenient that they got the first message, but didn't got the message when i change my mind, literally 5 min. later!! Basically he told me, since it was late in the day, they couldn't cancel it it, even though the staff member had told me that they did! and i HAVE NEVER EVEN GOT THEIR SERVICE, and here i am stuck with their internet bill, that it had never even set-up in my house! This has been a miserable interaction from the start. After moving we contacted Century Link for Direct TV and internet. We were told they would be able to provide both. Direct TV came through like champs! Had it in no time. Internet connectivity, however, was the opposite extreme... After they tried to pass us off to a local subcontractor, we were on the phone daily for 2 weeks with Century Link and the contractor debating whether we were even in an area that they provided service! Finally we asked Century Link to skip Internet service -- we would find it on our own. We got Beam Speed -- they've been great! To the credit of the operator at the local Century Link office, she truly tried her best, was professional the whole time. Turns out they could not even find our address in their database, therefore could not provide us internet service. Good to know. Since then: every month we go in circles with Century Link trying to pay our bill (the money they forward to Direct TV)! They 'can't find' us in their database, 'can't find' us by THEIR account number on the bill THEY send us monthly, 'can't find' us by our phone number...we've even had to have them search by SSN... Finally (and what prompted this review), we arrived home today to find the Direct TV turned off! After calling Direct TV we were informed that Century Link requested they suspend service for non-payment of Internet service!!!!!! We DON'T EVEN GET internet through Century Link OR any vendor of theirs!!!! To add insult to injury, I took the time to go online and chat with the Century Link main support desk who informed me (after I gave them the account number on our bill, my cell number, our address...) that they did not even have us in their system!!! Granted, it should have been a big red flag when the original installation issues were a Charlie Foxtrot. I never would have anticipated, however, that we would have to deal with loss of service due to non-payment of an account we don't have from a service we don't use. To be back to the 'we can't find you' stage is beyond the pale. I've worked in IT, worked in business. I've had to deal with ISPs in smaller localities before (and, let's face it, it's a toss up). This, however, was/is ridiculous. Find another vendor, people. This one apparently doesn't even want to make it easy to take your money. read more

THE worst Internet service and customer service EVER!!! We purchased the high speed Internet service and received a Internet connection that was so sketchy. It would disconnect and reconnect by itself. We called multiple times and after trying some trouble shooting techniques they basically said sorry that's the best we can do. Towards the end we were racking up our cell phone bill because we had to resort to using 3G for internet. Unacceptable!!! We cancelled our contract and switched to time Warner. I wish someone would have warned us. Poor product!! read more

All the troubles JM had, exceptionally slow service, service stoppages, the selling of packages that weren't available, etc. all were part of my 16th Centurylink experience. And heaven forbid you have an issue on the weekend. No business hours on the weekend! As soon as I can get someone to respond, I am cancelling my association with their ineptness! This is one of the worst businesses in Yuma. Customer service doesn't exist. And management is on vacation. After taking the leap and agreeing to pay their $60 instal fee and wait a week before they can come out and install the service... The unprofessionalism began to show. I was scheduled for a 12:00-4:00pm install on a Tuesday when the installer calls me at 9am while I'm at work asking why I'm not home for the install. After I made it clear that it was scheduled for 12-4pm, I made sure I was there on time. Upon my arrival home 11:30, I find a century link guy STILL at my house walking around the property like he owns it. So I park on the street since he welcomed himself to my parking space. After he finished the work running wires, he tells me he ran out of wire and can't finish. He calls for a co-worker to bring more to the job site. An hour later this co-worker calls back and says they are out. So the can't finish his job today. He has no clue when he'll get more wire to come back and finish his job. Now I'm waiting... And waiting... For an answer as to when they can finish the job. It took them 3 days to finally figure out how to get more wire. (I would only guess that's 3 days or longer of them canceling other people's installs since the company is out of wire!). Then they finally return the call to come and finish the install.... And say they can't finish until the middle of next week! Zero priority for a job left unfinished, zero respect for the scheduled install times, zero ability on managements part to ensure supplies are stocked, zero readiness for the installers to arrive prepared. I canceled with them and will use a provider that wants business and can run a business. read more

Worst internet service ever! I only receive about half of the speed I pay for and get constant downtimes and problems with service. The tech help service is horrible and to date CenturyLink has done nothing to fix the problem. They do not upgrade their lines and wait to fix a problem until they've received complaints from the majority of the community. I would switch services if I could, but they have a monopoly on my community. read more

Worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire life...and that is saying something. DO NOT get service from this company. We moved over a month ago and I tried to cancel the service starting in May. I have called over 16 times, gone to the store, and tried to cancel online. I have been hung up on, and put on hold no less than 12 minutes each time with the majority at 18 min. or more. I requested to speak to a manager and was denied. They still will not cancel our service until we receive and pay a final bill for the entire past month. We returned our unit on June 5th and have records but they say since we were unable to get through on their phone line that day or any day prior, they will not change our bill retroactively. I will not pay for a month in which we did not live in Yuma, so we are at a standstill. I am notifying the BBB. If you speak to Benjamin #0103848 you will not get any solution. read more

The bit rate was way below the cheapest connection you could buy from them. Even the technicians told me it was super slow and they could not fix the problem. My connection would disconnect and reconnect by its self. Some times it would disconnect for a day, up to 4 days at a time. We called multiple times and after trying to get it fixed. CenturyLink put me on a month to month because of this and the fact that a worker sold me a package that turned out to me a package they don't carry. When I moved I called 2 weeks ahead to cancel my MONTH to MONTH service. At that time I was told that it would take up to 2 weeks after my cancellation date for a technician to come out and disconnect the service. Also that I would be charged for the additional 2 weeks or more for the time it takes to be disconnected. Now CenturyLink claims that I had a 2 year contract not a month to month and that I owe them an early cancellation fee!?!? Besides DIRECT TV, this is the worst company I have had the displeasure to deal with... Please worn everyone you know about them. read more

KEEP TRACKING NUMBER WHEN RETURNING MODEM. I was actually happy with the service, didn't really have connection issues besides one time when the modem gave out after about 6 months (which is kind of ridiculous that a modem only lasts that long) but they sent a new one and it worked. So maybe 4 starts for service. I gave one star because I cancelled my service 3 months ago and returned the modem to my local century link store. I was given a UPS tracking number, which I kept because I had read that this company very often charges people months later for unreturned modems that were returned and that the only way to dispute the charge is to have the tracking number. After a month, I called to be sure there were no other charges to my account and they said no there is a zero balance, you are good. I just received a phone call (3.5 months after returning the modem) asking me to pay my final bill amount of 108.40 for a modem that wasn't returned. Apparently it billed for last months cycle, so after 2 months they bill you. I had my tracking number, which I gave them, and after a 10 minute hold they came back and said thank you, your bill has been updated and you don't owe anything for the modem. I have read other places that their excuse (valid or not) is their return facility is way behind on getting modems in the system, etc. If this is true, then they should wait longer than two months to bill if they know they are behind three months. Otherwise they are just billing customers because they know they won't have it returned on time and some customers will pay it without looking into why or some won't have the UPS number to dispute it. If the excuse is not true, then even worse and they are just charging customers in the hope they won't check and just pay it. So one star for trying to have many customers pay a hundred dollars extra because they are either a shady company or are so far behind, they can't keep up. Neither option inspires confidence when looking for an internet/phone provider. Also, on a side note, they called me and I returned the call to the final billing department. When I called back with the tracking number, they said they don't deal with that in the final billing department and that I would have to call customer service. I asked them to transfer me. He responded by saying I would have to call myself because they don't have the ability to transfer calls. What kind of telecom company can't transfer calls within their company? read more
