I live in an area where the choice for internet of CenturyLink or a Satellite. Due to the weather in the Black Hills I went with CenturyLink. It worked well when I first got it but as time has gone along it has gotten worse. It will go down and the modem says we are connected and the computer says we are connected but nothing happens when you try to open up a web page. You do not even get a "server not available" or other message, you just wait. It finally got so bad we got an ATT mobile hot spot to cover for when Centurylink goes down. From what one person said at CenturyLink, they only have one guy who can work on the fiberoptic/wire interface and he lives in Sioux Falls!! Better than nothing I guess. If I did not need the land line I would just cancel it all. read more

Peidmont, SD December 24th, 2019. No internet. Automated service system says: "working on it - hope to be back on line by 5:30". Oh well. December 25th. Still no internet. Now system says 9:30 am. Nothing. Long story short, 10 DAYS later, I called the India customer service, (linguistically challenged team), demanding an answer as to what horrible mishap could cause a repair to take 10 DAYS! Got nowhere and gave up. They are "short on resources" is all they could offer. (remember that next time you see banners and ads all over the ballparks. More important to burn resources buying more fools to support they're stock market driven business model than actually run a business) They could care less about their deplorable service. Notice how they carefully guard themselves against enabling you to talk to someone local. Two hours later, surprise! Your internet is working. I'm done. Run as fast as you can, these people could care less. Big, fat bloated pigs, sucking up your money and cheating you out of the service you deserve, at $1,800 a year. WARNING - CenturyLink does NOT transfer the SAME service from one home to another. HORRIBLE Customer Service! I switched over to CenturyLink in September of 2015 because they were able to offer the speed we needed for video uploads, they had a great price, and their customer service was very good - slow, but good once you got ahold of someone. At the time, I was hesitant to enter into a two year contract, but was assured that the contract and terms would carry over to our new home if we moved. It turns out, that was only partially true. We recently moved to the Black Hills area of South Dakota. Although it is true that CenturyLink has service in our area, it is at a much slower speed. If we want to get the same service we had in Colorado, we would need to get a business account at a substantial increase in price. Because we upload videos and other data-dense items, we really needed the same service, at the same price as we contracted, as I was promised. CenturyLink could no longer provide what we had previously contracted for. Therefore, we went with another carrier and I cancelled my service. When I did so, there was no mention about an early termination fee. In fact, there was no mention as to the final amount at all. I then received an email notification that my final bill was more than four times the normal monthly. I called Century Link. It turns out that they were charging me an early termination fee, despite the fact that they could NOT meet the service I contracted for in Colorado now that I lived in South Dakota. After multiple phone calls and escalation to their "customer care" (I nearly choked typing that), I was informed that they would not waive the early termination fee, because they had service (albeit woefully inadequate) in my area. The gentleman I spoke with actually made a comment along the lines of, CenturyLink offers service and just because I think I need a faster speed doesn't matter. Really? I'm certain he could have been more condescending, but it would have taken greater effort. Picture this - you have a 2-yr lease on a Cadillac in Colorado. You move to South Dakota. The dealer tells you that you cannot take your Cadillac with you, but not to worry. They have a vehicle in South Dakota that you can transfer your lease onto - it's a Ford Pinto, but hey it is a vehicle and the lease only covers your having a vehicle, not the type of vehicle. The dealer then informs you that if you want the same car you can in Colorado, you have to pay twice as much on the lease. A tin can and two strings is technically phone service, but I wouldn't consider it equal to an iPhone. It gets better. I was assured that the auto withdrawal of my monthly payments would cease because my account had been closed. I was further instructed that I would be mailed a final bill and mailing label to return the equipment. I have yet to receive either. Lacking a bill, I sent a $40.11 check to CenturyLink towards what I was told was my final bill. When I balanced my credit card statement, I discovered that they had debited the entire final bill. To add insult to injury, I also received a email that my current bill of $40.11 was available online and that "NO ACTION REQUIRED - YOU ARE ON AUTOPAY". Another half hour on their chat to get this straightened out and the $40.11 refunded. I will never, ever, use CenturyLink again. I hope it was worth the refusal to waive the early termination fee to CenturyLink. The result is that they lost a formerly happy client, who previously enthusiastically recommended their services and who will now emphatically warn folks away from this company. read more

Very bad service. Some of my devices are connected directly to the modem and still the internet was extremely slow. I was scammed into thinking that if I were to cancel my service under the contract that it would only cost $10 for every month that was remaining. I have 7 months remaining on my contract and to break my contract would cost $200. I was lied too and tricked into signing up with century link. Wi-Fi was very slow. I have many devices that uses Wi-Fi and I was assured that century link can meet my needs but they didn't. read more

I have NEVER had such awful service. I spent 45 minutes trying to call repair service to ask them to remove some wires. I was transferred, asked to call different numbers, was hooked up to South Carolina, it just went on and on. I would recommend never using this company. read more

I give centurylink zero stars because I have .01 download speeds and when a tech came out he told me that I am at the end of the line so I'm lucky to get that but they charge me full price when it rains I don't have phone service either read more

This review is of Centrylink as a whole. Local repair gets 3 stars as some of the techs are quite good and others leave a bit to be desired. If you ever have the misfortune of calling their customer service number you see why one star is only because 0 is not an option. If you have any alternative in your location, TAKE IT! It gets no worse than this. ALWAYS record your calls with this provider, at the very least document everything. They will say one thing and do another, outright lie and fail to make promised adjustments, even acknowledge promised adjustments. They place BELOW the IRS and AT&T for some of the poorest customer service I have ever experienced in my life, anywhere. I'm not in favor of regulation of business but someone needs to put the skids on this level of customer mistreatment. Avoid at all costs! read more

Century has horrible customer services that require a long wait by calling and get bounces from one rep to another rep. so you basically need to tell your issue few times before it is getting solved 1) Century Link forgot to hook up our internet connection on the specific day, we end up needed to wait another week before they installed. so we have no internet for one week after we moved in 2) Century Link said they will burry the cable line in the yard, which they never did in that 1 and half year even we called so many time to ask 3) Unstable internet performance.. whenever it is windy or rainy here in SD, their internet got disturbed. either couldn't online or it takes forever to connect to another web site 4) they never sent out a monthly bill. So we need to call monthly to ask when is it due and kept asking them to send a bill to us. However , they only send advertisement to ask for Upgrade or only send late notice!! does it make sense? no actual monthly service bill but there is a LATE BILL 5) the bill amount is always WRONG. we need to deal back and forth for century link to fix it. why is one month sometimes more than the other months? they couldn't explain and the staffs are very confused themselves saying they got acquired by Century link and not well-trained (it was a previous Qwest) 6) After we decide to terminate their service. CenturyLink refused to return our pro-rate paid internet fee until we kept chasing century link for two months Overall it was a torture and an ordeal dealing with Century Link. I'm so glad now I go with another company and bills are in a correct amount. Think twice before you even get trapped by this horrible company! read more

I recently moved, because of the move I they had to cancel my current account, and restart me on a new account. and it took them almost a month to get someone in to get me hooked up in my new location, so I asked for a credit for the time without service, they agreed. When they finally got things up and going again they I found out they charged me a $60 disconnect fee, I asked them why and they said it was supposed to be waived and they would give me a credit on it, so now I'm looking at $90 in credit 30 from the month w/o service and 60 from the cancellation fee, they take $30 credit from time w/o service from the cancellation fee that was supposedly getting waived and w a few extra charges they charge me $46.32 tell me there was a check in the mail for 59.90 leaving me w $13.58, and then after not even a month of service they charge me another $58 for service and internet fee, leaving me -$44 and try to tell me that their doing me a favor! I would never recommend Century Link to anyone EVER! read more
