For 47 years Central Screen Co. In Glendale has been a reliable part of our life. Their work was always efficiently done and their service pleasant and courteous. Enter 2025, post Covid "plandemic", when so much seems to have gone awry, or simply become non-existent. We recently needed to have some screen door material and glascene covers replaced (there are three buildings on our property). In order to do that, the screen doors (two of them, one of which protected a porch) had to be removed and the door closer systems saved. In one case, the screen door closer apparatus was stored above the water heater located inside a porch. When it came time to return the now fixed screen doors, the owner's son and a worker, Carlos, came to do the job. Carlos was not happy with the door mechanism above the porch door, probably because it looked a bit worn, so he said to me: "I don't like this. I'll get you something better!" I assumed Carlos knew what he was talking about, even though that mechanism had always performed well, without any hiccups, so I let it slide. While writing the check to pay for the installations, my husband and I chatted with the owner's son, and expressed our appreciation for the many years of good service his father's company had given us!! Sadly, I failed to inspect the door to the porch!! When I did so later in the day, I found that the new door mechanism that had replaced mine only closed the door part way, and the door had to be pushed in each time to close fully! Not a satisfactorily job!!! I contacted the owner. The son returned, attempted to readjust the door so that it wouldn't stick/rub at the bottom, and that was it! After he left, I realized that the main problem was the "new" door closer that Carlos had installed: it simply failed to close the door fully, and always left an inch open, for every insect or denizen to conveniently "walk in". I called the company again, and this time the owner himself returned. At this point, I told the owner that the original door closer that was there had been removed and replaced with an inferior one that did not do the job! The owner then said his son had "assured him that this was the original mechanism" that had been there, and that only a peg had been changed to install it!! GAS LIGHTING at its best!!! The "elderly" owners of the property had no idea what they were talking about!! I proceeded to describe in detail the previous door closer we had, its antique gold colour, the fact that I had smeared a bit of beige paint on it while refreshing the walls of my porch. This new mechanism, however, was a solid gray colour, nothing like what we had before. The owner then assured me that there was only one company left in Glendale that now manufactured those door closers, and they were all that gray colour!! I assured him that the mechanism to this screen door was the same as the one installed on all the other doors on our property. The owner then asked for permission to look at the other door closers, and sure enough, the door closer to the screen door of the main house on the property, situated further back, was indeed antique gold and not gray at all!!! He then told us that he would go back to the office and look for our original door closer that was taken away. We have not heard from the owner since. Eventually we will contact another screen door company to see if a better door closer may be available and installed, one that would actually CLOSE THE DOOR!!?? The main issue in this review is not that the installer deliberately did wrong, such as stealing an article from a home owner and replacing it with a detective article. I do believe that Carlos thought he would give us something better, but he failed in that, when he must have realized the door was not closing on its own, he said nothing about it and left the problem unsolved!! Merchants should not assume that all customers can be so easily "gaslit"!! My husband and I hold six university degrees between us, including a Ph. D. and a life time achievement award from the Pentagon. Of course, university degrees are only worth as much as the integrity and decency of those individuals who hold them, and no more! But to take advantage of people who are advanced in age and assume that they are "morons" is rather low!!! Wouldn't you agree? read more

Central Screen Co is awesome! Our cat had ripped through the screen in our window, and I needed it repaired. I showed up at Central Screen Co 30 minutes before they closed on a Friday, expecting that I would leave my screen to be fixed and pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. They were so incredibly polite, friendly, and helpful! I was given the option to wait for the screen to be repaired, and I was on my way home in less than 20 minutes with a screen that had been beautifully repaired (with cat proof screening) at a very reasonable price. This is now my go-to place for screen repair. I found out that they also install windows, wrought iron door/screens, bathtubs, etc... I make my living as a sliding glass door repairman. I can fix hard to slide glass patio doors and fix the locks. I do not do any type of screen work. I was recently at a house in Glendale working on a glass door and this customer has several issues with her sliding screen door and its track and frame. I referred her to Central Screen. Came here on the recommendation of a sliding door repair company to see if they could repair my old Andersen screen door. It was damaged so much and the parts were more expensive than the door was worth. (I had suspected this after having done my own research before hand). He said he could make me a replacement door of similar or better quality, quoted me a price and said it would be ready in a week. For years, I had been wanting to add a screen door to my kitchen, but I assumed it wasn't possible because of the depth of the kitchen door knob relative to the narrowish width of the frame and the way the stucco was set up around all of it. I finally decided to stop assuming and start making some calls: out of four calls I placed to screen companies, one asked me to send photos and then told me it wouldn't be possible; one simply told me that based on the measurements I gave them over the phone it wouldn't be possible; another never got back to me; only Gerry offered to come out and take a look in person. I'm glad he did, because he told me that it WOULD be possible to install an aluminum screen door, and they did an amazing job. The only qualifier is that I had to follow up two weeks after the estimate to find out when installation would happen, but with that one phone call, I was given an appointment for a few days later, and the installation was done very quickly upon arrival. All the screens and fresh air coverings were delivered and hung with the exception of a small screen for a rear bathroom window. Which was part of the original quote, proposal and estimate. At that time, I was very specific and verbal about my disapproval of the frame fabrication of the fresh air vents. They looked too "old world- industrial" and clunky in appearance. From the beginning. Mis-step 1: The owner Gerry never consulted with me about what type of vent coverings he was going to build. My house's look is 60's modern contemporary. He ultimately built and installed what he felt was appropriate which was not what I wanted....at all! They never did a good job of cleaning the site once installation was completed. Six months later I'm still stepping on screws, fasteners, metal debri etc. I basically would like to get the screen for the bathroom window that's missing. I tried texting and calling them several times in the last six months to retrieve the screen.They are claiming that because a garage side entry door costing over $1800(which was discussed in separate conversations only, At one point, written up in a separate proposal/quote. NOT an order form requiring a deposit. Mis-step 2: The door was ordered by Central Screen without my expressed approval. Or acknowledgement. From the beginning, I informed Gerry that I felt that this door was way over my budget and too pricey and could he find other, less expensive door options. For the record I never ok'd the purchase verbally or in a written binding contract with Central Screen Co. I have been told by one of his employees, Sylvia, that: "I should consider this a 'wash' and forget about it"! Implying that the undelivered screen was some sort of weird retribution for their door screw up! This is of course, totally unacceptable. At the end of the day I just want my little 18 1/2"x 24 1//2" and be able to move forward. Without...the sophomoric vendetta drama. Completely "washing" them out of my life. Folks. Please steer clear of the Central Screen Co. and their shoddy business practices. I've known the owner Gerry K. Goss since 1993. He once was an integral man and true professional back then. Who cared 100% about his customer's satisfaction. But like a lot of people these days, he has lost his integral edge as a contractor and local business owner. After too many decades in the same industry. He's lost that edge. At the very least, I personally think Gerry should entertain the idea of retirement. So please find yourself a 'progressive' contractor who is committed to the best in excellent service he or she can provide you and your home. Sure, Gerry is quick-witted and fast-talking, but he's just being friendly. I can handle that. I realized that the price he quoted was NOT the cheapest, but it wasn't unreasonable either. We are a window & door company with a customer in the area who had a rip in his screen so my husband contacted this company to repair it. A "lady" named Sylvia called to collect payment of $100 (I've been in the window business 12 years and have never been charged this much, especially for a window of this size) I kind of laughed and said ok, when will someone be on site to install? Sylvia, with a funky little attitude said "when we get to it" ummmm ok so you want me to pay for a screen repair before the service is even rendered and you can't even give me a time/date? Pros- Gerry is super honest. He came to measure door frame for sliding closet mirror door when other contractors would not. I measured different dimensions so was happy that Gerry measured and got right dimensions.Price was very reasonable vs other vendors and received quote very quickly, others were hesitant in pricing. He showed me the brand and model names where other vendors hid brand and model names.He Vacuumed floor after. His assistant (Robbie? ) also was great and knowledgeable Cons - some scratches , small hair lines cracks around frame, maybe doors could havebeen packaged better during transit. They install mirrors pretty good, but anything beyond that, I would go elsewhere. The young kid with the hat has a really bad attitude and does lousy work. I recently picked up a window and the corners are sharp and rough, not professional at all. The silicone is sloppy and not sealing from frame to glass. read more
