Okay, I've had a SUMMER OF CONCERTS IN THE PARK, but none quite like this one! I am definitely a Downey girl, but when I heard there was going to be a Beatles cover band playing at Central Park in Whittier, I packed up my car and headed over at 4:00 PM. YES, I DID! I had my lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and my best friends, because when I hear "Beatles cover band," I know better than to show up late. I needed good parking AND good seats, and I managed to get both!We settled in and had ourselves an amazing afternoon. But let me tell you... as the concert got closer, that little park became PACKED TO THE GILLS! I honestly have no idea where everybody parked. People just kept coming and coming until there were people everywhere. It was such a great atmosphere, and everyone was there to have a GOOD TIME!There were also some really nice touches that made the whole event even better. Cane's chicken was there giving gifts if you win a frisbee tops and if you lose free lemonade and iced tea, which was perfect on a warm summer evening. There was a pastry vendor, food trucks, and what I believe were a couple of Salt & Pepper food trucks. There were also portable bathrooms that were surprisingly very clean, along with a handwashing station.And I have to give a shout-out to Parks & Recreation because they were on top of the trash situation! They were constantly emptying and cleaning the trash cans -- it seemed like every 20 minutes. I really appreciated that because, of course, we somehow ended up sitting right next to a trash can. But honestly, it was convenient, and with THAT many people packed into the park, keeping things clean is no small job! And then came the MUSIC! The Beatles cover band was exactly why I made the drive, and they did not disappoint. There is something about hearing those classic songs outside, surrounded by a huge crowd of people singing along, that just makes for an unforgettable night.I can't even tell you how many people were there, but WHITTIER SHOWED UP! That park was FULL! If you haven't made it out to one of these concerts yet, NEXT MONDAY IS SELENA! So pack up your lawn chairs, grab your blankets, bring some snacks or a little spending money, and COME PREPARED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!Whittier knows how to throw down! The bathrooms are kept pretty clean. Especially considering that it is shared with unhoused people. Everything is pretty maintained but I wish they would keep the pond cleaner where the turtles and fish live. read more

I've been coming here for the past week to work out with Extra Best Effort on afternoons & weekends. Later in the day, you'll see a lot of couples lounging around in the grass...especially young couples (looks like they don't have anywhere else to go where they feel comfortable). On weekend mornings, people will be out walking their dogs. I like this park. It's cute, clean,and fun. Restrooms aren't gross and street parking isn't an issue. read more

I was in the area and my youngest daughter asked to go to the park that day. I just so happened to drive by this place so I pulled over to let her have some outdoor fun. Just from driving by and parking, the parked looked really nice. I liked how it was located in a nicer area of Whittier. It looked really big and really clean. Very quiet and not off a busy street. Although the public restrooms were outdoor, it was very clean. My only concern are the homeless people who were near by. They were far enough away from the park that it didn't seem like they were so close. But then again they were close enough were they seemed too close to little kids who were playing at the park. Although i felt we were safe, it just bothered me there were a few homeless people sleeping on the grass near by such young children. Overall my daughter had a lot of fun and she actually asked if we could go back. Unfortunately I don't live close by and nor is this place any where close to a freeway. Here at beautiful Central Park with my kids . Anyone know why the city would come at 1:10 pm on a busy park start to the weekend day and close the restrooms ?? I watched as the parks guy came in an open bed pick up and locked them up . It is packed with kids ( 10 to be exact ) and no restrooms ! Every time we come here , they are closed but this time I saw them lock them up at 1:10 pm with a full crowd of kids on a Friday . Kids are out of school , no place for them to go but the park to play and this happened AGAIN ! I just saw a man go to the restroom on the outside of the men's door . Restrooms not open , so he peed right there at the door area / brick wall ! Yup !! Just happened ! C'mon Whittier , get with the times here . Very upsetting !! read more

Every year I look forward to the summer concerts at this park located in historic uptown Whittier. There's an old fashion gazebo with a flagpole where they raise old glory every morning. Playground with slides and swings for the kids. Picnic tables, restrooms, a small pond and many beautiful trees. The park is surrounded by many attractive turn of the century homes. I love seeing the squirrels! You thought this was going to be about that other Central park didn't you? read more

When I was a child, I absolutely loved this park. The gazebo was cool, as was its central location (appropriate name, huh?) in Uptown Whittier, as was the fish pond (I was always simultaneously fascinated and terrified by murky bodies of water with orange-and-yellow fish). But what I really loved about this park no longer exists: its merry-go-round. This wasn't just any merry-go-round. I love the old-fashioned steel ones with the diamond-plate saucers and oh-so-dangerous steel bars, but this one was the most dangerous merry-go-round in the history of play equipment. (I don't know whether I can describe this correctly, so if anyone has any pictures of this thing, please post them.) Imagine a spinning pole anchored in concrete. Got it? This pole went straight up, and from its top sprouted four other steel poles that curved down from this pole toward the ground. But they didn't quite reach the ground; instead, attached to these poles were wooden benches that connected from secondary pole to secondary pole, forming a kind of squared circle. The only part of the whole contraption that touched the ground was the central pole, which spun. So in order to ride this merry-go-round, you had to push one of the four downward-cascading poles and then sit or stand on the benches. Still with me? Well, the central pole was about six feet or so from any of the benches, so you could literally stand on the ground between that pole and the moving merry-go-round without getting hit. But if you fell or jumped off the merry-go-round into this no man's land, you could very easily get hit and hurt badly, either by the spinning merry-go-round itself or the feet of its other riders. On most merry-go-rounds, once you get thrown off, you're out of danger. On this one, falling off was just the beginning of your problems. The scariest time I ever had on this thing was when a bunch of off-duty soldiers or National Guardsmen decided they wanted to spin me faster than I had ever spun before. Imagine a seven- or eight-year-old kid with three or four guys in fatigues pushing this thing as hard as they could. When it was going full speed, they then jumped onto the benches, standing on them! Obviously, they've since removed this deathtrap, but I really miss it. They've also replaced the rest of the play equipment, which was almost as unique but nowhere near as dangerous. I really miss the uniqueness that used to characterize local playgrounds; in an effort to make childhood too safe, society has abandoned the diversity of place that made being a kid so filled with wonder. The park is still fun to spend time in, and I've seen my nieces and nephews enjoy the new (safe) play equipment. There's also a huge statue of John Greenleaf Whittier, which is kind of hokey but also cool because he's sitting down, reading a book, and you can climb on him. read more

Korean foods and the people arnt geeky memorable to me can't even tell you what I got there the food was good but I been to some great ones. If I can remember it came with a fried fish that was very good had a bite and gave rest to my dog and she loves it since she if from that region and used as police dogs in Korea I expected nothing less. read more

Dogs are not allowed at this park! You'll get a ticket if you get caught inside the park area. If your dogs is service or support dog they'll leave you alone, because it's the law. Keep to the the grassy area by the sidewalk. Especially during an event like a concert in the park, the police will jump at the chance to ticket you for having a dog there. On that note, Whittier Police will write down your license plate and search for a reason to give you a ticket if your parked in that area during an event. Bathrooms are decent, they use to close at 1:30p but it was changed and now they close them around 5pm. It's a nice park though, just the issue with dogs being there makes the experience a bummer. read more

Pretty little park near a church in a small community. Small playground for children, a lily pond (not really maintained), cool statue in the middle and green green well cared for grass. I came early on a Sunday, and it was just a beautiful little spot for a stroll. read more

I got married at this park a few years back. It's a tiny neighborhood park. It is squared off by houses and quaint community churches. There is a gazzebo one one end and a cute playground. The grounds are very clean and there is no fee to rent the park after 3 pm, I believe. It is quite picturesque at sunset. Highly recommended! read more

Yesterday's concert featuring The Wiseguys, a big band from Montebello, was amazing. I had seen this band before in close venues, and they sounded just as great in the park. Tip: take your own food. The quality and variety of food for sale has declined. Boy Scout hot dogs were basic. read more

Very clean park, every morning at 8am the city staff cleans it. This park is from babies-6year olds. The swings are for toddlers (no big kid swings). They offer benches overlooking the toddler play area. Plenty of trees and a beautiful view local parrots flying from one tree to the other. There is homeless people & tweeters that lingers on the side of the park but they are opposite ends of the play area ( they don't bother anyone & mostly keep all to themselves). read more
