Parking is easy with a large lot right next to the lake, opposite of the lake are some hiking trails if you have more time. It's a nice loop going around with some different areas along the way such as a small creek, reeds near the shore, and some water works that looks like they have been turned off or no longer function. Even in Winter there are a lot of different birds around. My kids loved following and chasing the large pelicans in the lake. You can fish here and there are children's fishing competitions. Just keep in mind to have a permit because when we went there was a police officer checking and ticketing people.

murphy ranch is a great park for beginners that are looking to hike. there's a main path that loops…read morearound and connects to smaller trails that are slightly more steep. there's "hardest" part of this trail is at the beginning going up the hill but it's truly not so bad, you'll figure that once you get past it. i was able to do the whole loop with a bad knee (i wore a brace of course) within 45 minutes with my girl friends. i did have to pace myself due to that but im sure it can be done sooner. there's a nice view of the city right around the middle of the trail! definitely worth checking out :)

There are 27 holes in all that are super enjoyable to play for a good walk in the park. I can see the benefits of having a cart for your discs, as the distances are longer than other courses. The ground is a bit uneven in lawn care with lumpy tall grass and ground squirrel holes. With so many holes it's rare to bunch up with other players so no need to ask to play through. There was one incident that was intimidating, a loud and pushy player filled with bravado came up to our group to give unsolicited advice and talk smack.

It has an early-'90s water-park ring to its name, and while parts of it look like they're from the early '90s, it's just a plain old park with athletic fields, a gym, green space, and some sparse picnic tables. And what would a Whittier-area park be without its obligatory random ravine and/or concrete drainage area? In this case, said concrete drainage area is dangerous-looking for kids and runs right through the park at a right angle. It's fenced off, and there are helpful bridges to cross it, but I wonder why they sited it through the park rather than on one end of it. I'm sure some kids have adventures here, because all parks with grass and play equipment can be fun and create childhood memories. But Whittier has spoiled me with its parks, and while this is technically South Whittier so it's outside of Whittier's borders, it's still close enough that it should feel like a Whittier park, and it most certainly does not. Why? Because it's totally flat. And totally rectangular. When my parents were walking twice a day during COVID lockdowns/curfews, I suggested they visit this park to change up their rotation, which comprised only two or three parks at the time. They said it was OK, and I later came with my mom and realized why it wasn't their favorite. The concrete path isn't totally straight, so there's some variety, but there isn't much shade along the path. There's lots of parking, and it serves its purpose as a neighborhood park, but it could be so much better.

Even though it's just a community park, it gives teenagers a great place to hang out, take pictures, play sports, or just be creative outdoors. I only visited La Mirada Community Park one time in my life before making this review, but it ended up being one of the most relaxed and youthful places I've been to in a long time. I never doubted that the experience would turn out the way I hoped it would. I've lived for 24 years, but in the summer of 2024 I learned that I'm still physically and mentally 18 years old, and that my prefrontal cortex is more developed than the average 25‑year‑old's. Maybe that's why I connect so much with places that feel playful and full of energy.
