I am a big kid at heart and I just loved dinosaurs and dragons and reptiles as a kid so I knew I'd be coming back asap!! This is only about 15 minutes from the courthouse area of Virginia Beach and worth the expedition Even after closing hours for the museum this front park stays open. I did not see any specific signs stating closed at sunset or what not There was a sign saying free admission and please do not climb on the Dino's I soon saw why (No I did not climb and fall) but they are mostly made of metal and steel I think some are more sturdy but some have rust and you can see they are wearing down and you may end up with tetanus if you get cut hahaha But this place is so cool some are bigger than others and there is even a wooly mammoth and a saber tooth tiger In the front there is a lil free library but it was very skimp so if you do visit bring some donations to add This would be an awesome spot for a picnic or even a cool photo shoot

It's not really a parking lot, but a small area in the grass. It's in front of the Military Aviation Museum. It doesn't cost anything to enter the dinosaur park, which is great. We got out a there were several different dinosaur displays. We took advantage of this kid friendly freebie and took lots of pics. The grounds weren't really taken care of. So it was grass and weeds growing around some of the displays. Now that it's cold I'm fine, but if it were summer I'd be terrified of seeing a snake, because there are bushes everywhere. So hopefully during warmer seasons they maintain the area a little better. But I still enjoyed it. There's also a pond also, which was nice!! Just a quick fun little adventure!! Check them out!!

This park is great for adults, kids and dogs. The views are of a crystal clear lake NO swimming and NO boating. Plenty of trees. Great for bird watching. They have a nice size children's playground. Covered picnic tables throughout the park. a few fitness stations on the 1 1/2 mile hike. VERY easy loop hike. Starts out with a cement trail and turns into fine gravel trail around the lake. Lots of people running, kids playing and dogs walking. My favorite thing I found a bench dedicated to their sweet dog Savanna. And they offer doggy poop bags. Encouraging a nice clean park. Nice easy walk and if you time it right there are a lot of great places in that area to eat and a nice shopping area

It is about 1.5 miles for one rotation around the lake…read more There is paved parking lot for the park and there a relative decent sized playground for kids to play at. Only portapotty available for bathroom facilities which I guess is normal for the smaller parks in the area. The path is clean and nice but there are bicycles and other wheeled vehicles sharing the walking path. There were birds using the lake but I didn't see any sign of any fish or life in the lake so I am not sure if there are fish or anything else in the lake. I went to the right to start my walk and I am not sure if that was the wrong way but it seemed everyone was going the other way or it was just that I didn't catch up to anyone ahead of me so it looked like I was the only one walking my way. I took my walk on a supposed warm day but the weather changed and it was a little cold so I had to walk a little quicker than expected. There were people jogging the path, walking their dogs, and just sitting by the lake. There are lots of wooden pierlike structures that get you close to the water but like I said before, no signs of fish as far as I could see.

The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price. There is a restroom facility right across the boardwalk from it, which is a plus. This play park is the epitome of accesible parks. It is titled the "Park for Everybody". The amazing park/play area is 15,000 square feet and features wheelchair accessible entrances. It was built in honor of Josh Thompson, an avid beach lover, who lost his battle with ALS. Josh's family wanted to go to the beach, but he stayed behind because of the difficulty of getting his wheelchair to the beach, across the sand and down to the surf. The park is very nice and has a huge jungle gym with a couple of slides, a sculptural of a dolphins, a surfboard, and a wave that children can play on, raised sand tables for sandcastle building at an accessible height, a sensory board for autistic children, Sway Fun glider, and a pebble walk. What I find really cool is that they have fully accessible playground -beach wheelchairs available at no charge, on a first come, first served basis (only during season though). You will also find some cement pads here, with post marking the spots, that are covered with a little sand, making playing in the sand more accessible. Just outside of the park is a nice statue of a man and young boy holding surf boards. The sculpture is on top of a granite base that has the names of donors and the inspiration behind the park inscribed on it. Definitely worth a look. This first of its kind park is a very nice addition to VIrginia Beach's Boardwalk. It is accessible and fun for all kids to play on. They do suggest that it is best for kids aged 5 to 12. I love everything about this park. There should be more of these around.

Grommet Island Park is a well-frequented, moderate to large playground located at the VB Oceanfront…read moreat the start of the Boardwalk. It has a playground, raised sand trays, and sculptures kids can play on and take photo opps with. It is also an accessible park. The park is very clean overall. -- The Playground -- The playground area with soft foam flooring to minimize injuries (under the sand that got blown over it) is best for younger elementary school aged children. With close supervision it's also good for younger children (note that there are small gaps in the openings along the playground system). The equipment is in mostly good condition with small areas of wear. There are a variety of slides and ways to climb up and access the slides, along with monkey bars and climbing activities. There are also raised, connected walkways connecting the system of slides and a lookout point. The playground is in partial sun with some sections fully shaded by canopies (pictured). -- Benches & Pavilions -- There is one built in table with benches by the front of the playground. There are several benches along the perimeter of the playground. -- Walking Areas -- This is less of a park and more of a large playground situated on a beach. -- Sporting Equipment -- There are no other equipment options other than the playground. -- Amenities -- There are no toilet amenities at the playground, but there are restrooms with plumbing located very close by: 2nd Street Restrooms, which has year-round operation and is managed by the City. -- Parking -- There is a municipal parking lot close by--2nd Street Parking Lot--where any visitors can park for a fee. The next closest lot is Rudee Loop Parking Lot (also a municipal parking lot with a fee). Both are located on Atlantic Ave. There is limited meter parking, too. Visitors to the area staying at the Oceanfront could also walk there. -- Things to Note -- During peak seasonal times, it's usually pretty busy with kids. There is no fence or physical boundary between the park and the water, but it is situated well enough away from the water that it didn't pose an immediate safety concern. -- Takeaways -- This is an large, accessible playground that is a nice option for my toddler when we visit the Boardwalk, and I can see it appealing to families visiting the beach who have kids with varying interests. The main attraction is its playground. If you are at the Boardwalk, it's worth a visit for children. It might not be worth it to you to go out of your way if you don't intend to visit the ocean or Boardwalk, too, or if you aren't interested in its accessibility features. Simply because paying for parking at the Oceanfront and sand in the kids shoes' could be a few minor drawbacks.

The park also has a decent amount of parking although there were not too many people in the park during my visit. Also, the park/trails were pretty maintained with plenty of markers to keep you going in the right direction. While the park is nice, I probably would not go too far out of my way (30+ minutes by car) to visit unless I want to take advantage of the kayaking/paddle boating opportunities.

I could've sworn I've reviewed RWP before... but, apparently not!…read more As someone who used to live in Red Mill area, I visited here a few times over the years and think that the cute little Japanese garden area is adorable. Smaller parking lot but there is far more parking in the back area by the golf course. It's famous for the two weekends a year in spring during the Cherry Blossom Festival hosted here. Alas, the lines to pull in are SO long, I have avoided it and never seen it in action - though, it's on the bucket list for some day. It's cute and small, and worth a visit if you're in the area, but it's nothing to make a trip across town solely for under normal circumstances.

I am impressed by this nearby city park. I had no idea this was even here until we moved into…read moreShadowlawn a few months ago and it's a pleasant surprise. It's much larger than I expected and I love the dog park, large green area with the small three children's play areas, paved bike/running trails and the entire area. It's very big and there are several walking/hiking trails inside the main portion of the park spanning several miles and meandering through a wooded area that follows the marsh. It's well-kept and has multiple entrances from the Shadowlawn neighborhoods. -The entrance from VA Ave has a very small parking lot and then street parking. -The entrance from Indian Rd. has a much larger parking lot with plenty of space and opens to the large, green field with 3 separate play areas for toddlers with climbing sculptures in the shape of frogs and caterpillars. Really cute and has a pavilion and circular paved trail around it. -The entrance from Marshview Dr. has a small lot and this is where the dog park area is as well. Two tennis courts here across the street which are part of a small playground/tennis complex called Salt Marsh Park. Last weekend I finally went for a hike inside and covered about 1/3rd of the likable/walkable space. It's gorgeous! It's also neat bc they have it set up for trail bike riding and it's very well marked and laid-out. I came upon some beautiful areas for sitting and enjoying the view. If you haven't ventured here yet you should give it a try - actually pretty impressive in size and option for a neighborhood co-located park.

Lots of dogs at this park. I LOVE dogs.2 Different playgrounds. The playground area was my favorite. There were no kids so we explored the playground. Huge size. It was awesome. So their playgrounds are spread out. They have one at the area where you park your vehicle. You walk or ride your bike a ways turn right into another area . Nice size grass area to run and play and then 3 sections of little whimsical play areas. Frog area, Caterpillar area, and turtle area. Really nice paved walk ways with these beautiful little bridges. Dog park, People and Pet friendly. Wheel chair and stroller friendly. Great for bikes. They even have a station for bike repair and to pump up your tires. EXCELLENT for us we love riding our bikes. This is such a lovely area we were just riding our bikes around and found it. We love it. It has a lot to offer and it is very well kept
