I used Central Marketing catering from the Westgate store for my wedding and the price and quality of food was excellent, but there were some major snafus along the way that I need to point out. First of all, if you are going to work with them, request working with Vanessa. She's outstanding - she's responsive, really knows her stuff, and tried her best to make our wedding as affordable as possible (her suggestions were great and saved us hundreds on costs that weren't necessary). Working with Patty, however, was really difficult and because she's the manager, it's hard to give them a better rating. Patty will not use email and insists that you call the department for any questions or updates to the order. That is hard because you then have no paper trail of the changes you have made and if you're like me, you can't easily make calls during a work day to deal with your wedding caterer. Each time I emailed her she just responded saying that I needed to call in to be helped. Secondly, and most importantly, I found out TWO DAYS before my wedding that the staffing company that CM works with on events had no idea that there was a wedding they were booked for! Patty had not confirmed with them and they were already booked the day of our wedding. Luckily for us, they (Austin's Elite Staffing) were able to make it work, but had to get some folks to work when they weren't expecting to (the staff was great, by the way). However, to know that without my wedding coordinator's intervention that we would have been without bartenders or waitstaff for the wedding is really unsettling and just unacceptable. I'm grateful to Austin's Elite and my coordinator, but really disappointed in CM for this oversight. If you decide to use them, proceed with caution and make sure you are working with Vanessa and double checking everything! read more

Central Market catered my wedding 11/9/13, and it was incredible and we got tons of compliments on the food. We actually got the food from the North location, at which they only offer pick up/delivery and not catering staff, but it's the same menu to my knowledge. One of our big challenges was that we wanted it to be vegetarian, but also please a bunch of meat-and-potatoes type family. When we brought this up to CM, they actually customized a menu for us of Kale and Pepita salad, grilled vegetables, spinach lasagna, and sweet potato sage butter gnocci with mushrooms (and of course rolls and butter). It was really, really good, and worked excellently on a buffet. They let us try the food ahead of time (we had to pay for a tasting, but it was deducted from our final catering bill), and Alison patiently walked us through every step of the way. They allowed us to make a couple last minute changes and were very accommodating. Best of all - it was CHEAP compared to most wedding catering prices we were getting! We already had outside labor to maintain and serve the food, so we saved a ton of money with CM. I have used CM Catering for three company holiday parties and they are absolutely terrific! They work within the budget to help me design a delicious and elegant party every time. We typically just set up the platters in our office, so don't need waiter service which is what I like about working with them. Their trays are very nicely arranged and adorned with flowers or berries and make a terrific presentation and since they are on disposable trays, make clean up a cinch! I highly recommend them for your party needs, especially for a more informal gathering without sacrificing taste and quality. read more

CM's catering menu offers wayyy more then I discuss below. So see their website for full details and the wide variety of food and party trays/meals -- breakfast to dinner, appetizers to desserts. CM catered my rehearsal dinner, the h'orderves during my wedding, and a bridal shower I helped throw. Their prices were better than most catering companies who charge on average $1.25/h'orderve. And they have delivery service at a reasonable cost. Just to list a few items, we had: stuffed mushrooms, tea sandwiches (3 assortments), prosciutto wrapped asparagus, blue cheese stuffed dates, curries deviled eggs, huge cheese platter, and stuffed artichoke hearts. For the rehearsal dinner CM has a great fixed price set up (a.k.a. movable feasts). One entree, one veggie, one rice or potato dish, green salad, bread, and dessert for about $20/person. AMAZING! I placed a frantic order the day before my wedding because I realized I had all of my family coming over and the bridesmaids for hair/makeup but nothing to feed them. I ordered a quiche, breakfast tacos, OJ, a fruit plate and muffins. The delivery guy was on time, placed everything in the kitchen and was super friendly. The food was still hot, and they had included all of the napkins, utensils and sauces. The trays were nicely arranged, and were quite presentable. He got quite upset with me when he couldn't find the delivery address, was a little surprised at how angry he got. I am THRILLED with our decision to have Central Market Catering provide food at our wedding last month! From start to finish we had only positive experiences with Patty and her team. Food was flavorful, healthy, and perfectly customized where we requested. We had to work with different food allergies, sensitivities, concerns, etc. and the food was cohesive and awesome. We hired our own catering staff from our event planning company but Central Market did all the food for our continuous cocktail hour as well as the cupcakes for our cupcake tower. The catering folks were very helpful and some of the food was great. The wedding cake, for instance, was absolutely delicious and the vegetables were tasty. That said, I am sorry but I just cannot forgive pork loin and salmon that was just so horribly overcooked. I recognize the challenges of prepping for a large group many hours ahead of time, but this crossed the line into inedible territory. All of the above hands down FAR exceeded the service, menu options, price, and scheduling availability I found at any other establishment (including Whole Foods, Panera, Einstien Bros, and others). I used Central Market Catering for my wedding. We had approx. 150 guests and we were trying to keep things reasonably proced. We were able to have several options for cocktail hour as well as a dinner withchicken pasta for , mixed vegetables, and bread options as well as all the utensils, plates and napkins. In all we spent approx-1500 which was about 5-8 grand LESS than other places around town. I believe it was Allison Grabe who I was in contact with. She was helpful with suggestions as well as great with getting back tome whenever I had questions. We had several compliments about the food AND we saved a TON! CM does not provide staff to serve the dishes BUT they directed me to a staffing company that did an AMAZING JOB (A+ Student Staffing). We just used Central Market Catering for my 30th birthday party and it was awesome! I had never used them for catering before, but I am a frequent visitor for groceries and the cafe so I felt pretty comfortable about using them. Their prices are very good and the quality of their food is great! The $40 cheese plate is a wonderful value by the way because it is huge with an assortment of great cheeses. We were picking it up on our way to the party and we needed to have the spinach dip hot because there isn't an oven at the party location. Patti at Central called to confirm a couple things the afternoon of the party and asked about the spinach dip being hot, asked when the party was and then when she found out the location she offered to deliver it for free because it was on her way home! That was so nice and made everything pretty much stress free. I am not writing about that so people expect it, but I just wanted to share that because it was such a nice thing to do. As a result, our holiday party was reasonably priced, more than enough to feed 110 people, arrived at the venue on time and hot, and tasted great. This would be my first review to write on yelp, unfortunately it is negative. I have been shopping at CM for the 8 years I have lived in Austin. Their staff and products have always been satisfactory. I enjoy many of their products that are made by their cafe. While looking at the options available to families that did not have time to cook their own holiday feast, I found CM. The vast options provided on their holiday website gave me hope that they might be able to provide an enjoyable meal for the family I work for. When I returned to work on Friday, to my surprise, the meal was a disaster. The precooked turkey required at least 2 1/2 hours to reheat. The family followed the instructions provided my CM, cooking the turkey until the core reached the temperature listed on the instructions. While carving the turkey the misses found the center of the turkey had not been cooked. Preventing them from enjoying their meal as scheduled. The turkey gravy and cornbread stuffing had so many onions in each dish that the family was not able to consume the traditional sides with their meal. I called and spoke with the manager, explaining the problems with the holiday meal. She was very apologetic. Their solution was a $25 gift certificate. The total meal cost the family more than $200. This will be the first and last time I recommend CM Holiday catered meals. read more

The food was delicious and beautifully garnished for presentation. We used their delivery service and they delivered at exactly the time that was scheduled. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
