We aren't horse people, but decided to add horseback riding into our valentine's day weekend get away. We enjoyed the 1.5 hours ride through the ranch. The air was a bit crisp, but it's really sunny which made everything that much better. The owner Brian and his daughter led the ride, he was very friendly, funny and also very knowledgeable about the local history, which made our ride even more fun! We are also impressed that the site has two regular toilets that you can sit down to do your business, not those terrible porta party. You can see that they take care of their horses. Wonderful experience! The sunset ride was so beautiful! Highly recommend this one. Brian provided excellent communications via text messages and voice calls for the booking process. Once there, he provided detailed instruction specific to each horse. Grace was also very kind and helpful along the trail as a guide. If you want pictures of you riding, you have to advocate for yourself and request to have the guide take them for you. She will airdrop them to you after. Please be kind and tip! There is on-site restrooms. I went during Summer, and all the grass is dry. I was told that after the rains, everything is green and lush with tall grasses and streams. What a wonderful experience. This was my first time on a horse since I was a child. I have been trying to overcome my fears and horse riding was one of them. My husband and I along with another couple had an evening ride with our guide named Summer. She put me on a gem of a horse called Pepper. Summer was kind and patient with me and my fears. Fourteen college kids from UCSB's Excursion Club were itching to fulfill California cowboy dreams and Central Coast Trailrides exceeded our expectations. Our group had little to no experience prior, and CCT was the perfect fit for us. Brian greeted us as soon as we arrived, establishing a very friendly environment and providing an easy check-in, along with waters for everyone, sunscreen, and bug spray. We had a great ride with Central Coast Trailrides near the end of October for my husband's birthday. The scheduling, payment, and directions process was very easy. We originally booked Santa Margarita Ranch, but due to scheduling conflicts, we were placed at Cass Winery instead. No problem at all - gorgeous ride and views along the way (also distance -wise closer to Paso, which was helpful). We learned a lot from our guide about our horses, the property, and the region and wildlife. For beginners, I would recommend requesting an easy-to-ride horse. My husband's horse was kind and sturdy, but it was a difficult to keep him away from eating the vines and grapes. This made it more challenging for my husband than it needed to be since a good portion of the ride is through the vineyard. Overall, had a great time and will definitely book again when we're in the area! read more

We took a 1 1/2 hour ride in the back hills of Santa Margarita... an outstanding choice made all the better by our trail guide Olivia. Just a sweetheart of a person, knowledgeable, friendly and personable. Wr never felt pressure to ride above our ability, and she took us up and down elevations and through back hill country that at times was a little work (more for the horse than us!) I am 6'2" 220 lbs and let them know so I would not fell bad about my big butt on a small horse. They matched us up really well. My wife loved her horse (although he stumbled a few times on rocks and dirt - probably tine for a shoe change) and my horse was about 16 hands very well mannered and just a love. Horses were well kept, clean, and healthy. No sway back so you don't feel bad for riding the poor thing. The trails were awesome. We will use them again when we ride.... and we will request Olivia.. yes, she is that nice. We already recommended to our horse friends.
