Our group of six people had an exceptional day of wine tasting with John back in July for my Father's birthday. We visited 3 different wineries in the span of 5 hours. You pay for your tastings upon arrival but John curated the places and reserved our space at the wineries. This review is for two tours with JZ. The first was two years ago, and the second was last weekend. We enjoyed our time with JZ so much the first time, that we booked him again! Both tours were very different, by design, but that's the type of magic that JZ brings to a trip, and what makes him so good. He can make your tour with him whatever you want it to be. Our first time, we had four wineries planed, but had such a great picnic lunch and an extended stay at Oso Libre (Red Scooter Deli lunch that JZ picked up for us before our tour started) that we ended up skipping our last stop. The flexible, no-pressure approach was lovely and we had a blast. Our most recent experience was a trip we took to Paso with friends, and it was easy to get lost in conversation, and JZ did a phenomenal job of keeping us on schedule so we'd make our next appointment time. Absolutely amazing experience, JZ made our family trip to Paso unforgettable. My family and I went to Paso for a quick trip and used Elite Wine Tours and JZ (owner /our driver) went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I rarely post on Yelp, but John deserves even more than 5 stars. We have never rented a bus in Paso, but better believe that we're never going again without booking Elite Wine Tours! Besides being affordable (just about the same price as Ubering 6 people around wine country) and unbelievably low stress, John coordinated winery reservations, picked up our lunch + dinner, sorted our wines into individual bags for easy drop-off at the end of the day, and even brought a DSLR camera and sent us a Dropbox link the next day with 20+ incredible photos of our group. His professionalism shows that he's clearly been doing for a while - he knew how to nudge us gently to keep us on time and clearly "read" our group to see how involved he should be in our day. We actually did not use JZ but wish we could have. When I was referred to Elite from the owner of the AB&B we are renting, I reached out, but JZ was booked already. About a week prior to our arrival, I reached out again to JZ to see, by chance there might have been a cancelation. No luck, but JZ referred me to a couple other similar companies each time I sent a note. He continued to send me more links and referrals and I ended up booking another company that JZ referred to me. My review is based on outstanding service even though we didn't get to use his company. He'll get back to you right away, listen to what you want (if you don't know, he has ALL the tips and connections) and set up a lovely day for you. Super responsive, friendly and helpful from our first contact. We were a group of ladies (5) celebrating a 40th birthday and found him right here on Yelp. JZ doesn't do the drop you off, pick you up later thing like some of the shuttles do. He knows everyone in the whole area I think! He makes all your tasting reservations, walks you in, introduces you, waits patiently while you have your fun, then carries all your purchases out to store them for you in his cooler packs! JZ showed up right on time and his limo was clean and lovely! (I think he's upgrading to a Sprinter soon, though, so you need to hurry if like a limo!) He kept it stocked up with water to keep us hydrated in between. He was so nice we invited him to join our gourmet homemade picnic lunch! I have many many wonderful things to say about John...so get ready. He is extremely knowledgeable! He knows facts about the wine, the town, the vineyards and many other things. It was a cherry on top of all the incredible wine, to be hearing fun side facts. I love storing up on that info. He is an amazing planner! We had a brief chat with him about what we liked. And he took it away and sent us an itinerary with some back up options if we wished to customize it more. He documents the moments! He photographs you and your group at each vineyard. That way you have an amazing photo library of the day. And he takes great photos, it is not amateur hour with John. He caters to you! Let me tell you, it is sometimes hard for me to just sit and enjoy the moment so John stepped in and said you enjoy the day and don't lift a finger. He sets up your picnic, carries your wine to and from the car, and opens the car door. I felt like a queen. He is honest! I looked into the competing companies. The ones that have lower rates when they drive your own car as opposed to John, who drives his own insured vehicles. John told me upfront that insurance will not cover your car if you pay a driver, god forbid anything happen. At first, I was like that's one hell of a sales technique. But then I did some digging with some car insurance reps, who are friends and family at different companies. And sure enough, they backed up what he said. I can not afford to take chances, so for us this made us feel safe and secure. And last, but not least. He is going to be remembered forever! He helped my boyfriend, I mean fiance!...put together an amazing proposal. From helping him find the perfect spot, giving his pep talks through out the day, capturing the moment on camera and getting the vineyard all in on it too. I could not have asked for anything better. Great experience with Elite Wine Tours. From the first communication to the final transaction, JZ was full service! I reached out about 2 weeks prior to my trip out to arrange for a driver to take me and my boyfriend out for the day. He immediately responded with all his offerings. Others I reached out to didn't respond for days if at all. There are so many different things you can do based on his list of offerings, it can be a little overwhelming. He really does have an "experience" or option to fit just about any day out in wine country. But I told him what I had in mind...4 stops and lunch in about 4 hours or so at smaller family owned wineries. He gave me a few recommendations which I researched and decided on the 4 that looked most interesting. With the COVID protocols in place requiring appts everywhere, he set all that up for us ahead of time. I couldn't have been more hands off which was AWESOME! He even picked up our lunch from a local deli we had ordered from the day prior prior to picking us up. He was on time, about 50-10 early with his huge, very clean van stocked with water and ice. I didn't ask for much, but I"m sure if you had specific requests he'd hook you up! He got us every where on time and gently nudged us when we had to start moving to the next stop, but never rushed us out. In fact, he knows all these winemakers so well, I think he actually called ahead once or twice to slide our appt 15 min or so b/c we really were taking our time and set us up with our food at the perfect time. We weren't even thinking about it :) He was super friendly and engaged in conversation or let us be depending on the situation. He also was great at filling us in on the winemaking and wine makers along the way as well. Bonus, he took some great pictures of us candid and posed that he sent the next morning. John was first-rate. This was only our second wine tasting weekend, and first in Paso Robles. I had done some research, but John was incredibly helpful in confirming some wineries on my list while very politely suggesting I look elsewhere for others. Honestly, he had the perfect balance. He didn't trash any place, and if I had felt strongly about going to one of those that he wasn't giving his highest endorsement, he hadn't made me feel like I was going to regret it or be an idiot for going. John was quick to respond by email or phone prior to the trip, and was there on-time to pick us up (actually he was even early). He drove us around in our car, and he understood when to be chatty and when to let us enjoy the surroundings in peace. He knows a lot about the area and the wineries. A lot! And it was helpful for us. John had suggested a good route for us to go and a good lunch place to pick up food (Oddysey World Cafe). We were very happy with our choices of places to go, and lunch was really, really tasty. John was attentive to every detail, from calling and making reservations days and weeks ahead of time to ensuring we got great service at each winery. He stayed out of our way while there, but snapped pictures of us from time to time and sent us a disk after the trip. He even noticed the gas tank was heading towards low and offered to fill it for us when he picked up lunch. I gave him my credit card for both and didn't think twice about it. We have use JZ a number of times, and he is a great resource for your wine visits in Santa Ynez and Paso Robles!! While we have been visiting in the area, we thought we knew a lot about the region, but things change. The first big changes is how the area is patrolled by CHP, sheriffs, etc. A great day is not worth a DUI charge ... The other changes that occur is the yearly yield of the wineries themselves. John has his finger on the pulse of the valley, and does his own tasting there. So while you might have a list of places you would like to go from the past, he can make suggestions of what you might not know.
