    1969 Lotus Elan

As I don't really care for reviews with no context, I prefer to give a small back story to better understand my review. Although the vehicle in question; a 1969 Lotus Elan is nearly 50 years old and merely a percentage of the cost/value of a current model Lotus. I felt the need to go into a more defined review about the company that I dealt with to purchase this vehicle and all the time in between as it was a very serious choice to make. Granted this review is only of my experience, but my personal past experience can be very helpful for others. Initially I was worried about the potential of dealing with the dreaded used-car salesman. Thankfully that wasn't my experience with James from Central Classic Cars. I was pleasantly surprised when I cold-called CCC in Ohio (I'm in Southern California) after seeing an ad for the car on Hemmings.com. He was very pleasant and responsive to my questions. What he knew, he was honest and to the point about. What he didn't, he was also honest about and immediately forwarded me to a gentleman named Bret Abraham whose company had done the current services on the vehicle. Bret was essentially a vintage & current Lotus car Wikipedia of a man and I'm very thankful of his knowledge and third-party assistance as he was a great help at helping me to come to a decision. Especially after dealing with quite a few characters over the years, pertaining to Lotus cars. I should probably point out... That off and on, for the better part of the last 5+ years I've been very seriously seeking a vintage 60's Lotus Elan. I've always wanted a Lotus as I love the marque, but I really wanted to start with the car that essentially defined the name Lotus with handling. Now up to this point, I had driven over a dozen Elan's and loved every experience. They provide just enough fun and "terror" in a small & enjoyable package that very few non-car people can understand. You might say that they're all thrills and no frills. Because when people say Lotus cars are spartan in their design, they're not kidding. In all honesty it's nothing more than a street legal 1600lbs go-cart, but because of that; it's worth the price of admission for me. However finding my own was proving to be almost more work than it was worth as they don't last when they go up for sale. Most of the time, I'm either too late to the party, the seller want's too much money or the car requires too much work for it to be worth my time. Still, after speaking to James on the phone a few times before I even purchased the car. I put down 10% and acquired a 3rd party (Road Ready Inspections) to go look at the car for me, due mostly to the fact that my schedule wouldn't and couldn't allow me the time to physically fly to Ohio merely to look at a car. If it had been a simple Vintage Mustang, I could've purchased one near my home. Unfortunately seeking a (somewhat rare) vintage Lotus was becoming a chore unto itself and finding a car that fit within the confines of what I was seeking, even if I had to send a third party was worth my time, money and effort at this point. From the first call, to purchasing the car after dealing with the third-party inspector; it took approximately 2 weeks, plus of course the time in between for me to make the decision, do paperwork and the wire transfer. Then about a week to ship and deliver the car through a company called My Transport Guy who did it in record time and did everything in their power to make the delivery work seamlessly for me, even though they had some issues both getting it to me and delivery of the car as their truck was huge. Like 3 lanes required to turn huge and my street... Well it's easier to drive up my street with a Lotus Elan than a 50+ foot long and nearly 10+ foot wide truck. But they did what they said they could and didn't falter in the least bit. All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. In many ways, I'm downright elated. It's everything I expected and everything both James at Central Classic Cars and the 3rd party (Road Ready Inspections) said it would be. Obviously it has it's issues as a 50 year old British car should, but nothing would have fit my needs like this car does and I'm very thankful for all the time and effort James at Central Classic Cars put into making my purchase that much more special and proficient. I was very worried about so much, but James delighted me with a very smooth and outstandingly professional sale, transaction and even after-sale experience. I actually fully expected to never hear from him again after the sale, but he's just keeps impressing me with his interest in my enjoyment of the vehicle and its new life with me. All in all, there's not a lot more to say about my experience with James at Central Classic Cars. If you're looking for your dream car, a hard to find classic or just a great ride, give him a call. You'll be impressed too. "So all that's left now is to deal with CA DMV." Oh the humanity - Wish me luck.

I purchased a used 2022 GMC Terrain (24,576 miles) from The Nice Car Company on December 30, 2025…read more The vehicle was advertised as having passed a "100-point inspection." Within one month (January 26, 2026), the check engine light came on. Diagnosis: codes P0137 and P0500 -- O2 sensor replaced. On March 2, the check engine light returned with code P0500. At that time, the spark plugs were found to be fouled and black. Repairs included replacing the plugs, cleaning the fuel injection and throttle body, performing relearns, and adding fuel cleaner. By March 17 -- just 2.5 months after purchase and only ~1,300 miles driven -- the check engine light came on for a third time. I took the vehicle to a GMC dealership, where they diagnosed fouled spark plugs and an issue with cylinder 4. I was then informed the vehicle is experiencing engine failure and requires a complete engine replacement. For a low-mileage 2022 vehicle, this type of engine failure is unacceptable. I returned to the dealership after the second repair to request an exchange or refund and was dismissed. I was told "check engine lights come on all the time" and advised to continue driving the vehicle. After emailing to request a meeting with the owner, I received a phone call but was given the same response. I was told I had not taken the vehicle to the "correct" mechanic -- despite using a repair facility listed on their own website as approved for the extended warranty I purchased. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend getting an independent pre-purchase inspection and carefully reviewing the vehicle history before purchasing. I would not recommend The Nice Car Company due to this experience with engine failure and poor customer service.

The car was in good shape otherwise. Based on experience would avoid.

I purchased my car a year ago through Chris Molnar and he was amazing! Through the year I had to…read morereplace my rear tires twice and when my boyfriend was replacing my rear brakes he noticed my rear lower control arm was completely bent, which looked like it caused from a tow truck latched onto it(before i got the car). This was most likely causing the balding of my rear tires. I made an appointment with the Taylor Kia service department because it said it was covered under my warranty. We dropped my car off Wednesday night for the appointment on Thursday at 7:30am. We received a call Thursday asking what needed looked at and they said they would let us know what was going on when looked at. We called multiple times and left multiple voicemails but no one responded for 4 days. I reached out to my customer service rep and was told they would find out but after I texted back I didn't hear anything more. They finally called today and said we could pick it up and that the part wasn't covered because it didn't fail but was user fault so I would be required to pay the diag fee($234). Absolutely do not recommend getting anything done here ever!!

Taylor Kia I brought my vehicle to this dealership on a tow…read moretruck after driving nearly 16 hours from Florida when it began having intermittent shifting issues. Before arrival, I identified an active recall for the clutch actuator, which directly matched the symptoms. I clearly explained the issue and specifically requested the recall be addressed. From the start, communication was extremely poor, despite the dealership knowing I was traveling from out of state and planned to leave Saturday. I was told the vehicle was not shifting properly through gears and was then presented with an estimate for a full transmission replacement, along with claims of dual clutch/DCT codes. I explained that these same codes are known to appear intermittently and falsely when a clutch actuator is failing, since the actuator controls multiple transmission functions. Eventually, I was told the recall was "complete." I repeatedly asked whether the vehicle was drivable so I could arrange transport back to Florida. I spent hours getting transport quotes and even began the process of purchasing another vehicle because of the uncertainty. On Saturday morning--during their limited hours--I again messaged that I was en route and asked if the car could be driven. I was told the recall was complete and the vehicle had been driven into a parking space. When I arrived, I was charged a $250 diagnostic fee, despite the vehicle being under recall and arriving by tow. I was then told by Dave that the vehicle would not go into reverse. After disputing the diagnostic fee (which should not apply under these circumstances), I ultimately paid it in cash just to retrieve my vehicle. I requested documentation showing when the diagnostic codes were pulled (before and after service) and asked for something signed or dated. This information was refused. I was then handed a stack of paperwork claiming what had been done. Upon leaving the dealership, the vehicle was still shifting abnormally from first to second, and it does not go into reverse. Most concerning: the paperwork--read aloud to me by my daughter--showed that the clutch actuator was NOT replaced. Only a fuse was addressed. A basic search confirms the clutch actuator's role and the fact that replacing a fuse is often only a first step, not a resolution, when symptoms persist. Once the vehicle continued malfunctioning, the actuator itself should have been replaced under the recall. Instead, the dealership chose not to proceed, failed to communicate this clearly, and released a vehicle they knew would need to be transported or driven across state lines in an unsafe condition. I will be contacting Kia corporate and escalating this as far as necessary. I do not recommend this dealership due to lack of transparency, poor communication, and questionable handling of a recall repair. I traveled through the holidays for a meaningful family trip, and financially and emotionally, this experience was devastating. This situation was avoidable, and the stress quite literally left me with a headache. Do better. Dec 20th 2025
