There are clean, polished tables for two or four people and there's lots of space. We had a seat in the window which was very nice. Every table had a (real) red rosebud in a small vase which was a lovely touch, there was soft music playing, and there was a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The owner was particularly friendly and welcoming. The home baking is fresh and truly gorgeous. My husband said the Bakewell tart was the best he'd ever tasted (high praise indeed coming from him) - and that included the one he had in the town of Bakewell itself!!! As for my large Empire Biscuit, well it was also the best I've had (they are my favourites and I always eat them when in Scotland!) as it was fresh, thick and crumbly (usually they are quite hard). They do a great selection of freshly made lunches too from salads to toasties. The substantial and delicious soup with a sandwich is only £6.95. The coffees are extremely good and come with some pieces of homemade Scottish butter tablet on the side of the saucer. We had hoped to eat there again but sadly ran out of time this trip. Next time we're in Largs we'll go straight there for lunch. Only wish I was allowed to give it more than 5 stars as this cafe is in a league of its own!!

It thrilled me to my bones, so it did. Not only that, but Bungalow's do a tasty hot chocolate for 65p - not bad considering you'd pay 3 pounds up the town! Not only that, but this modest, small cafe does cheap and cheerful morning rolls, some lunchtime snacks and an assortment of old fashioned sweets. It's quite dinky on the inside but ideal if you're taking away or just stopping by for a brew. Which I did, and enjoyed it. It's not open very late during the week but it's great if you're looking for a spot of simple breakfast before your busy day ahead, or a pit stop for a snack. 30p for a brew - as Mrs Doyle from Father Tea would say, "Go on, go on, go on..."

The coffee is good and strong, the WiFi is free, the food is hearty. On my most recent visit I ordered a latte and a bowl of the soup of the day, which turned out to be Scotch broth. The portion came served with bread and was absolutely huge - it was also somewhere between soup and stew, thanks to the chunky vegetables in it. Perfect for warming up on a chilly day. I've occasionally visited for events in the past and they seem very happy for their space to be used as more than just a coffee shop. I think it changed hands a couple of years ago but that hasn't at all diminished the feeling you get that Big Mouth is part of a real community in Partick, one that it deserves some credit for helping to grow.

I thought I should make a return to Cardosi's since my last visit (probably about a year ago). I used to visit here quite often before work for a toastie and tea but stopped that once I realised how much money it was costing me. That's not to say that Cardosi's is expensive but it is probably pricer than most places in Paisley. Cardosi's also holds a special place in my heart for being the first place I visit in Scotland that served a side of "crisps" (chips) with a toastie. I was SO confused the first time this happened (especially as it was around 8.30am). But now I am quite fond of crisps as a side salad. Today I popped in for lunch and decided on a baked potato with chicken and cheese. What I was delivered was actually tuna and cheese (hence the 3 stars instead of 4). Thankfully I like tuna too, otherwise I would have asked for a fresh one to be made up. The potato was cooked well, not smothered in butter and had generous fillings. It also came with a side of coleslaw as well as rocket and balsamic. It was £5.45 for the additional topping, normally they are £4.95. Cardosi's has a really nice view of the museum and the Thomas Coats Memorial Church. The manager of Cardosi's (the restaurant) was also here, I'm sure he is a Cardosi's institution as everyone knows and loves him. He is super friendly and cheerful.

Its partnered restaurant seems to be a popular choice with Paisley folk that I know. I was served quickly and the soup was delicious, though pretty salty (what's that about the West of Scotland diet?!!). The prices are good; I got my sit in lunch for a fiver, including tipping. I'm yet to get a coffee here but the prices, if it's good coffee, were to my liking! There were older women having a good chin wag and students taking a break from their exams. I liked this mix. The best part about the place, though, are the windows. From where I perched I looked over some deep red tenements and could see Thomas Coats memorial church and the museum. A great spot for a bit of people watching.

Unfortunately they somehow messed up our order so my hot sticky toffee pudding (they'd sold out of banoffee) arrived almost immediately and was cold (and half gone, despite me trying to wait, especially since it was making me rather thirsty so that was a bit annoying) by the time our drinks and V's meringue arrived! They did apologise but the drinks did still take an awfully long time to arrive. I've eaten dinners and lunches here before too and they're always nice, I particularly like their eggs benedict for a Sunday brunch, sat outside in the sun!

They also served a babyccino to a toddler in a coffee cup and saucer - we asked for a take out cup and straw which was more suitable. Maybe a wee but more thought needs to go into serving junior guests! All in all, I'd give it a 3.5/5. I'd go back if I was in need of sustenance next time I'm swimming. Just one wee aside...waitresses, think about maybe wearing thicker leggings or proper trousers...we could just about see what you'd had for breakfast!

There's free WiFi, and students get free top ups on all coffees (with a Waterstone's student card - it takes 2 sec. to create and costs nothing). However, they do not make skinny coffees, which is something I find quite essential. It's a nice place, but it doesn't really stand out in my opinion.

The prices are about average and the coffee is nice but nothing out of the ordinary. They have a good range of cakes and bakes and some of the salads and sandwiches look really delicious (I fully plan on returning over lunch at some point). If you have a Waterstones card you can earn or spend points when you buy things in the cafe as well. Now that might be my favourite bit. It's in a Waterstones. Waterstones may not be the perfect bookshop but it does pretty well. There's not much more comforting than sitting down in an armchair and sipping a hot drink whilst surrounded by books. Cunningly, the cookery book section is just past the cafe's seating area - so if you do find yourself thinking that you might be able to make your own chocolate cake at home, they are quite prepared to sell you the very resource you most need. I only wish they were open a little bit later. The Waterstones on Sauchiehall Street has a Costa Coffee instead. While it's in the basement so it doesn't have the benefit of the natural light that Cafe W has, it does manage to stay open a bit later.
