Two small wedges of bread with a hefty slice of smooth pate with some onion chutney. Simply beautiful. I chose the haggis & black pudding olives. I received 3 thinly sliced rounds. We looked at the menu at a few places around the area, but decided that Gusto & Relish was the winner. Trying not to negate the workout we had, I attempted to order something more on the healthy side. I'm not sure that worked since I ordered the french toast with maple syrup and last minute decided I wanted to try their veggie haggis. I could see the disappointment in my boyfriends heart, being a true lover of haggis, but I do quite like the veggie option when I can get it. He went for scrambled eggs, a fried egg, beans and toast and a coffee. When our food came out, I was a bit put off the way they piled the veggie haggis on top of my sweet french toast, but I ate it first and got on with it. I made my boyfriend try the veggie haggis, and much to my surprise, although he said he'd never actually order it, he didn't hate it. I quite enjoyed it and the massive amount they gave me actually filled me up before I even started on my french toast. The french toast was a massive portion. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but the slices of toast were really thick and perfectly cooked. The wee pot of syrup that came along could have been a bit bigger, but that's just me being a greedy American wanting my french toast covered in syrup. I would have also loved some powdered sugar (icing sugar as they call it here) and it would have been the best. Needless to say, it was still really great and super filling. I ended up giving a piece to my boyfriend unable to finish the three pieces. The boyfriend quite liked his eggs, beans and toast, but didn't enjoy his coffee one bit. I even tried it- it was very acidic and bitter. I wouldn't have been able to drink it, but my boyfriend drank it like a champ. All in all, our breakfast was delicious and the service was great. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed they have a bunch of Scottish goods for sale, which was great to see. For any of you looking for Suki teas, (I've been on the hunt and have found they're only sold online) they sell a few here. Yay!

I was in for some food but just made a super quick decision when I saw the menu - Eggs Florentine with added spinach. What can I say, I'm a bit addicted to Eggs Benny and all its variations. This place is really nice inside - classier than your average cafe and pretty cosy. The breakfast tea was delicious and service was warm and friendly. I loved the presentation of the eggs - generous with a lovely rocket salad on the side and an added side which I think was a potato scone (I ate it too quickly to remember properly). The only reason I have to dock a star is that the muffins were burnt in parts which I know sometimes happen but my god I hate a burnt muffin. The rest of the dish was just lovely though and I really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and as I said, the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to have a huge deli section (as mentioned in some other reviews) but that wouldn't put me off going back for lunch or breakfast. Also, it looks like they don't have a customer toilet but if you ask the staff, they'll point you behind the counter and past the kitchen down the stairs.

I ended up with a soggy jacket with no salad, a plastic cup full of cheese and some butter - very healthy! Add to that my water and it cost me a fiver. If it had been at all nice I would say that it was good value but as it was I think it was horribly overpriced. But then that's kinda what you'd expect from a tourist trap I guess. The upside is that it's a wonderful place for watching the world go by. I spied some young American tourists talking about getting lost, an older American woman asking for a Giant cup of tea, lots and lots of cute babies with their big prams and the organist getting himself geared up for the recital. (Oh! And someone eating a jacket potato with baked beans, humph!) Also of note was the woman who served me and offered to help me to my table as she could see my difficulty carrying a tray and pushing the pram (I'm still a rookie you see). The worst thing about the place? The plastic cutlery - a pet hate - there's really no excuse for it! You'll share your table with the climbing centre locker room, I kid you not. But don't let that put you off, coz this is a great place to have a bite and a cuppa. It's cheap, tasty and unbelievably friendly. From the outset the staff seemed to have love and pride in their jobs. They were happy, that rubbed off on us and we knew we'd have a good afternoon. You don't have to climb to dine, but you can watch on in awe and it's a pretty busy place with peeps of all ages shooting up those knobbly walls. We popped in for haggis nachos, beef enchiladas and soup. The green lentil soup was off (as in gone sour), but that was sorted pretty efficiently by the chef. But the chilli beef enchiladas and nachos were pretty decent for £6 each. It's a funny environment to sit eating a spot of lunch, but somehow it worked for all three of us. On entry there is the gorgeous converted church which has been converted for the use of the climbing fraternity but has kept some of the original features such as the rafters and beams and the stain glass window which dominates the cafe. The menu is a mixture of healthy things such as ginger and soy noodles and a variety of low fat protein options as well as interestingly flavoured paninis and snacks such as nachos. We went for a thai chicken panini and nachos with vegetarian haggis. Its one of the best panini's ive tasted and exactly the flavour that comes to mind when i think of thai, creamy, coconut flavour with a hint of spice. For a cafe with such a wee amount of space the things they make are phenomenal. The better half also says that the nachos and vegetarian haggis were gorgeous too. A very inventive and healthy cafe with an interesting view well worth another visit!!
