Ventured up to Kelvingrove with my little kangaroo and her big pram. We made our way to the main gallery and, as i was a bit peckish, stopped at the coffee shop there. I really wanted something vaguely healthy but the sandwiches were all meaty except for an egg mayo option which didn't look too appealing. Then I laid eyes on the jacket potatoes. Good! Surely that'd come with a little salad and they probably did baked beans. ...
The only veggie option given to me was cheese so I took it. I ended up with a soggy jacket with no salad, a plastic cup full of cheese and some butter - very healthy! Add to that my water and it cost me a fiver. If it had been at all nice I would say that it was good value but as it was I think it was horribly overpriced. But then that's kinda what you'd expect from a tourist trap I guess.
The upside is that it's a wonderful place for watching the world go by. I spied some young American tourists talking about getting lost, an older American woman asking for a Giant cup of tea, lots and lots of cute babies with their big prams and the organist getting himself geared up for the recital. (Oh! And someone eating a jacket potato with baked beans, humph!)
Also of note was the woman who served me and offered to help me to my table as she could see my difficulty carrying a tray and pushing the pram (I'm still a rookie you see).
The worst thing about the place? The plastic cutlery - a pet hate - there's really no excuse for it!
I'd go back for a coffee as I love sitting there but I don't think I'll be eating there again in a hurry. read more
