My take from my experience is Delicious & Fantastic!…read more I stayed in Astoria for 4 months last year and probably drove past this deli maybe a couple of dozen times. Never stopped in. I happened to be in the area on Wednesday February 26 and went on Yelp to look for a nice place for hot soup. As I was doing that and in traffic, I looked to my right and saw the sign" Hot Minestrone Soup" in the window! Fate! Destiny! There are no accidents!!! Got parking right in front( metered $ 2 per hour via quarters or cc or NYC app) and walked in to a beautiful, bright & pleasant store. The workers were relaxed and having fun as they were taking care of the customers! Great sign! I got a warm greeting and knew that I wanted that 16 oz Minestrone plus a tuna salad on wheat. The kind gentleman asked if I would like it toasted. Sure! I saw this beautiful jar of sun dried tomatoes just calling out and asked him to put some on the sandwich. The soup was amazing - so fresh, so hot, so good! Loved the ample pasta and veggies in it. The sandwich had a generous amount of tasty tuna salad and the extra mustard with the extra onions made it pop. Loved it. Finished off with a coffee and again - really great team here who despite the line that was 8 deep told me to please wait for 5 minutes so they could brew me a fresh pot. Very nice! They could have blown me off as a new guy who is not a regular. The prices - great! The service - outstanding! The vibe - like home! Seating -4 small two seaters inside. The store and organized shelves - immaculate! Warm and inviting! Everyone was smiling and happy serving up some great, happy and gorgeous fare and drinks. While it's great they offer a lot of quality options, the prices also reflect the inflation of western Queens in recent times. The place is like any other small store that offers groceries, limited produce, and snacks with almost no seating. Most folks are here ordering take out or getting their food via delivery. I've done both and would much prefer their delivery. For the most part, the staff is nice and able to honor substitutions or special requests. Food really revolves around breakfast and lunch items, which include popular choices like salads, sandwiches ($8), and wraps ($8). There some winners and losers of the bunch, but their bacon egg and cheese is good despite being $5. The wraps are relatively solid, the healthy options are cool, but I wish they were a little bigger. It almost feels like everything is a random combo of veggies and cold cuts. While the bakery isn't exactly impressive, I'm stoked they offer a number of different kinds of breads and have a decent selection of bagels. I would also venture to say their smoothies are pretty good, but they're also about $6-8 depending on the cup size. They do have their delivery woes on occasion and for the life of them cannot distinguish between "tomatoes" or "tomato" on their menu. I would settle for Nature's Vida in a pinch, but wouldn't consider it a destination bodega / convenience spot by any means.

The sandwich itself is good just wish it was a bit bigger for the price you pay. But I have to say each time I had it the sandwich was good. Overall their menu is pretty decent and you can order pretty much anything and customize anything they have as well. The staff is very nice and the place has plenty of seating in the back and outside as well.

He's gotten their stuffed avocado with chicken salad, and I was blown away with how huge and heavy it was. Even after eating a decent amount, once we packed it up, it looked like he didn't touch it at all. I've dined in and done take out, and the food is always fantastic. My partner had the huevos mexicanos with chorizo, which comes with warm corn tortillas. She liked it, though the rice and beans proved to be a formidable challenger. Despite that the service was great. All of the servers were attentive and would stop by to check on us, ask if we needed anything, and offer refills. It was nice to see everyone helping out instead of just relying on one server. They had a Tuesday lunch special that came with either soup or soda so that's what I went with. I'm not sure if the specials change depending on the day. But it was a nice deal. I ordered the chicken noodle soup to start, followed by the Cubano panini with curly fries. The panini came with overnight roasted pork loin, grilled ham, melted Swiss cheese, and spicy mustard. I also asked for some hot sauce on the sjde, and they offered me three different kinds. I went with the habanero, which gave the sandwich a nice kick. Overall, Pete's grill is a solid diner with good lunch options , really attentive and friendly service.
