Veggie bowl half rice and half salad with side of roasted veggies and creamy feta dip

This was my second time eating at Celo's. Quick to-go order after work that didn't disappoint. I opted for the veggie bowl with side of roasted veggies and creamy feta dip. The food was flavorful. The staff provide efficient service. I pre-ordered online and picked up on the drive home. I can't speak to the dine in experience, but the environment was pretty laid back as I picked up my to-go order. Check out their website for specials and promotions. Wednesday was "Wrap Wednesday"

So disappointed. My friend and I were eager to try this Mediterranean restaurant and the menu looked amazing. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't. There's a kiosk to order electronically but we chose to order at the counter. The young lady seemed rather put out but we ordered anyway. I was looking forward to a falafel pita after having many at Mallory Square during sunset in Key West. This one was overcooked and so so dry. Hardly any sauce. My fries were limp and barely cooked. My friend's Gyro platter was dry meat, overcooked rice and a decent hummus. This is definitely a "self serve " restaurant; you serve yourself your drinks and gather your own cutlery, yet when you pay you are asked for a tip. For what??? No one served us, except for practically throwing our meals on the table. Oh yes, you have to clear your table too. I now understand why we were the only diners. My friend and I search for non chain restaurants to patronize for our weekly lunches because we like to support local businesses. Unfortunately we won't be returning to Celo's. And yes, I did leave a tip although I don't know what for.

The weekend has officially arrived and I am living my weekend to explore some new local spots! First stop @celos_shawarma ! This super laid back joint located in Viera is serving up fast , delish chicken and steak #shawarma . I created a custom chicken shawarma salad complete with tomato and cucumber salad and bright crisp pickled red onions! As if that was enough flavor I enjoyed my meal with their life changing whipped feta sauce and #tazikisauce . You can choose from platters , wraps or Salad and mix and match to create your own perfect meal. Just don't forget to end on a sweet note with a piece of #baklava and wash it all down with some fresh #aquafresca ! . #highlyrecommended #yum #foodie #supportsmallbusiness #brevardcounty #spacex #spacecoast #supportlocal

Love this family owned restaurant they have such flavorful food. Amazing quality Mediterranean & served on paper plates felt like a home feel. I had the lamb platter and it was so tender the humus is delicious, Greek salad we have ordered many times before this. Had some Egyptian baklava (not pictured) but went back in to order more to go. I've had their gyros while on lunch- lunch rush took about 10-15 minute wait but 10/10 recommended.

I never feel good about leaving a poor review, but Celo's was not a good experience for us. I frequent so many Middle Eastern restaurants in Tampa, in Miami, in Orlando, in New York City, & in Israel. So starting with the food, all I can say is that it was far from authentic, & parts of the food were far from being good. I see many glowing reviews on Yelp, so maybe today was a rough day there? I had the chicken Shawarma platter & falafel. The chicken shawarma was lacking any & every Middle Eastern spice that should be in it. Meanwhile the falafel were heavy pucks that had been over fried in old oil. My friend ordered the mezze platter. The reactions were similar. The hummus was poorly made. The baba ghanoush had no smoky flavor, & the tabouleh was unremarkable. When we went to pay, we got out our credit cards & were told they were going to add a 3 1/2% upcharge unless we used cash. As we left we both said "well there's a place we won't be returning to".

Chicken gyro with fries and salad
    Michelle C.

Went to this spot for the very first time, and service was great and the food was great. Had a chicken gyro that came with fries and salad and it did not disappoint. I would definitely go back. They offer shawarmas and falafels and they also have little desserts and hummus ! It was all very good

Build your own salad with gyro, cucumber tomato salad, feta, tabouleh, tzatziki, and Greek vinaigrette. Side of falafel with tahini.

We ordered the large mixed kebab platter and it came with salad, hummus, Baba ghanoush, garlic paste, warm pitas and olives. Terrific appetizer and a fantastic kebab platter that the 2 of us could not finish - truly enough food for 4! We took all our leftovers home and enjoyed them the next day. We also had some excellent baklava (with pistachio our favorite) and took one home. And then they gave us some tasty rice pudding too! We were beyond stuffed! We are definitely going again even if it is 50 minutes from home. Lastly, the price was very reasonable and the service was excellent. A+ experience! Highly recommended if you're looking for something different and special. Update: went for second time and it was less impressive than the first. We ordered the same platter and the Kibbeh appetizer. The Kibbeh was dry and not very flavorful unfortunately. Also the platter was not served in the same impressive way, smaller portion, and less WOW. We may give it a third try but this moved from 5 Stars to 4 on the second outing. Hope the 3rd visit is better or it may be our last as it's 50 minutes from our home.

It was inspired by the experience of coming upon and through the components of a Greek village and eventually making it into the big city of Athens. You can definitely feel that, but especially in the evening. The quality of the food and the space in which it is prepared and served in, are now commensurate. If you liked their family recipes from the original Old Olive Tree sit-down restaurant in Long Island, which were tweaked only slightly for the fast-casual The Avenue Viera location in Florida - then you should love how their new executive chef - Chef Andres, and his team, with their new equipment, have refined them with the family even more. Old favorites, and new dishes coming soon. The Beer & Wine of their original location has expanded into a full bar with robust beer & wine options. And...when the fine-dining restaurant opens upstairs, that will be next level - as the chef consultant from Greece has a 2* Michelin pedigree and Chef Andres (who also has a DC Michelin-level pedigree) studied with him in Athens last year to develop the new menu. I've been blessed to work on projects with Michelin chefs, we are very lucky to have that level of talent in Brevard again. The mixologist Tori has been concocting some amazing creations and sourcing brilliant spirits from Greece to build them. I can see drinks on the lawn being a popular thing there. It has its own 'entrance' so will be perfect for private events as well. And there will be the Greek bakaliko Market too - with beautiful products sourced from the familial homeland. Viera is lucky to have this and other new venues. For years we have come from Beachside south, and I know people that make the drive from south of Palm Bay and Vero Beach. To the north, from Titusville. Prices have always been fair for the quality of ingredients and the portions. I have never walked away hungry, ever. I personally am not bothered by the card processing fees if I choose to use a card. These card processing fees are exorbitant to the merchant, and although they too do not like them, they are to be expected nowadays to be passed on. Some of the POS systems embed them in your bill and others line-item them. This new system is line-iteming them, so I don't fault the restaurant for that. I am willing to pay a little extra for an outside seat and a pleasant space, as opposed to being claustrophobic. And the service? The staff has been increased greatly with additional front-of-house staff being added into the mix. We are always greeted by name when we go, and if it's someone we don't know, we are greeted with a smile. You can tell that the staff love their new environs. Robots speaking Greek with English translations replaced runners - and the runners were then retrained as attendants in the dining room, counter and expo. Total upgrade for everyone. It's quite pleasant having a dining attendant as opposed to a server. They never made you feel rushed but always made sure discreetly that you had what you needed. Very interesting way to reinvent fast-casual! If you don't enjoy the place, even just nursing a frappe and eating your way through layers of baklava, or you're enjoying one of Tori's cocktails with some delicious mezethes - you are really missing out! Kali Orexi!

**INITIAL REVIEW** I…read moream currently on a Greek/Mediterranean food kick after eating it, which was fantastically made and indulged in, when I was at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs, FL. To my delight, Melbourne Main Street a.k.a. Historic Downtown Melbourne finally had such food added to its food scene when Aya Mediterranean Cuisine (which I will shorthand simply to Aya for the remainder of this review) opened up. Eventually, I got to try Aya out albeit their lunch menu initially. What I got was a fantastic meal in which I long to try more of their fare. Aya is located on the northern side of New Haven Blvd. in Historic Downtown Melbourne. It is the last business on the west side of the train tracks, which used to be Continental Flambe if anyone remembers that. I went in at the latter end of Aya's lunch hours as they close around 2 p.m. to prepare for the dinner rush. The decor looks more like a rustic upscale tavern flanked by fine dining decor, both from the 1980s. Aya was clean with the space optimized to fit the most patrons during a rush, but the restaurant does need some TLC. Almost all the ceiling's tiles had water damage and the carpet was frayed. Not sure if this is something Aya can fix or if the landlord of the building is blocking them from doing renovations, but it is noticeable. To keep things simple, I ordered the Gyro Wrap ($13.99), which was seasoned beef and lamb with feta cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. Side options can be more traditional sit-down with rice or a salad (I assume it is a feta salad), but more of the "fast food" route with fries. I like how they deconstructed the wrap with the slices of beef and lamb, veggies, and sauce being separate, but assembled with pita cut into corners/chips. Yet, all the lamb and beef are on top of one small pita so you can add the veggies and sauce. And if you ordered fries, you can add them in too for the "food truck" experience. Not sure if Aya will allow you to use ketchup on a gyro wrap though. On a sidenote, there was a back "bar" area where alcoholic beverages are sold, and the restrooms - at least the men's restroom - was clean. Ultimately, Aya blends class with a family-feeling when eating at their restaurant. They even give more specification to their food as the generalization may be Greek/Mediterranean, but they have specialization in Lebanese and Moroccan cuisine, something I am sure the family whom owns it, spearheaded by the owner and chef Ziad Aseid, envisioned when they opened this restaurant. Despite the visual issues I found with the restaurant itself, Aya is a solid four-out-of-five stars for their initial review. If they are consistent with their food and service, I will give them their fifth star for consistency in an updated review.

I paid over $18 for a Shish Kafta sandwich that was basically all bread and garnish. I'm not exaggerating--there was barely a morsel of meat in every bite. It felt like a total rip-off!!! As someone who has worked in Middle Eastern kitchens for years, this was a massive letdown. Red flags from the start: the waitress claimed Shish Taouk (tawook) is the "fastest" item (proper chicken takes time!), and the cook wasn't even middle eastern and clearly had no idea what he was doing. The Tabbouli arrived dry and unseasoned, no lemon juice or even wedges??? I ordered the Shish Kafta ($18+), and it was an embarrassment. There was so little meat it was practically a salad wrap. When you pay nearly $20 for a sandwich, you expect a proper protein portion, not a "hint" of Kafta. No lemon, no napkins, no utensils, no attention to detail. This place relies on the name of the food without understanding the food combining principles of the recipe. Check your bag before you leave, or better yet, go elsewhere. The only thing that seemed authentic about this place is that the owner is arabic.
