We were driving by on a road trip and saw this U Pick cherry orchard and decided to stop off. My…read morefirst concern was whether they take cards, as I'm not a cash carrier, and to my surprise they did. We arrived about an hour before closing and there were only a few other people picking cherries. We walked up and were told what to look for and what cherries to avoid. We were handed bags and told how far on the property we could venture. The price was around $6.99 a pound. It's more expensive than the store for bing cherries, but you can't beat the quality, freshness and supporting a family business. We picked cherries for about 20 minutes and of course took the opportunity to take some pictures. We picked about a pound and a half and were on our way. This was a great quick stop and we had a healthy snack on our road trip. I would recommend stopping if you are in the area.

Unfortunately, this Ranch--and all the rest I believe--are sold out for the 2022 year due to a small crop this year. But, in the meantime here's a few tips for next year's picking: *Follow them on IG at @UPICKCHERRIES for updates and picking info. *When they open a Ranch get there as early as you can. They tend to sell out fast--sometimes in less than a day! *If you're really serious, bring a small step ladder or someone tall to get the good stuff. *2022 prices were $6.25/lb, which ain't cheap, but you're paying for the experience :) *They take cash or cc *Parking lot is a dusty dirt lot, so don't go to the car wash ahead of time.

We try to go cherry picking every year and somewhere in Morgan Hill since Brentwood is too far and…read morecrowded. I have previously gone to one of the U Pick ranches but they had very limited timing this year and none of the times worked for us. I found this place while looking for other places to go and it was open on the weekend that we wanted to go. We went late on a Friday afternoon and this place was easy to find but I didn't think it was the right place because when you enter, it looks like a car junk yard. There was one other family picking cherries so the place was not too crowded. We checked in, had to read some information, got our bags and went right in. They have various types of cherries - bing, lapins, black etc. and that was the best thing about this place. The trees are have a color stripe that tells you about the types of cherries. We walked for most of an hour with barely any cherries. All the reachable ones were either picked out or too unripe. What I noticed is that for the other families who came after us, the people in the front gave them long poles that will help pick cherries on the top which we were neither told about nor offered, hmmmmmm. We finally found one tree loaded with black cherries, they were small but delicious and we went overboard and picked too many. This place charges $6/lb while most others charge $.50c more. They also have apricots but the fruit was not ready on the weekend that we visited.

My favorite orchard to pick cherries!…read more This orchard seems to have expanded their parking area. Last year they just had the main small parking lot you would pull into. Now there's more parking available on the side of the road for overflow. Guess the place got more popular. When you walk into the lot, you'll see the tented area where they hand out bags and you purchase your cherries at the end of your adventure. When you first arrive at the tables, they'll ask you to read through all their rules and overview of how to pick cherries. They have a handy print out of all the varieties of cherries that you can identify based on the colored stripes on the tree trunks. When you go into the orchard, the fun begins! This year to start, they just had a few varieties ready so far. I ended up focusing on picking the Tartarian cherries. These are a beautiful dark red cherry that are very soft (hence bruise easily!) and tasty. They're sweet and not that acidic. Compared to the other cherries available so far this summer, these are my favorite. $6 / lb of cherries. That's 50¢ cheaper than the other U-Pick orchards that are currently open and for even better cherries (imho) :-) I'm looking forward to coming back soon!

Back to the deli. It's pretty simple, you order and turn on at the deli of a half sheet. They make your order, tape it to your lunch it was done in 5 minds and they were pretty busy. We paid before exiting and found a table to eat outside. Mr. E and I decided ahead of time to share a sandwich and that was the smartest decision because my simple turkey and salami sandwich had so much meat in it and other toppings. We were so grateful for the portion size but struggled to finish our halves. We also ordered the kids the grilled cheese sandwiches and they loved the cheese pull!

Parking was readily available for cognitively challenged patrons such as myself. I Immediately recognized the excitement physically evoking from my body. I pulled out my chaveta to wrap my yap around a Cuban satiation as I trotted towards the dessert tavern. I'm a sucker for a candied beetroot licorice lollipop. I slammed some silver dollars down, and stuffed each of my cheeks with a set of decadent vermillion colored candy on a stick. I had places to be and things to see, so I galavanted back to my preheated hog and soared down the 152. There was a puddle of salivation running down my leather club patches on my vest before I even turned her over. When I got home, the stains on my tongue served as a reminder of the hospitality and community, that Casa De Fruta offers to all. My buccals stayed pigmented and soiled for days on end. Prolonged pleasure. Recommend. Kindest Regards, JC
