I have personally seen these poodles and coming from a family of AKC judges, I can tell you that if you get a puppy from this breeder, you will be getting a high-quality and carefully raised puppy. I have visited her facilities, and Pamela gives all of her dogs the best of everything including plenty of nutritious food that is sustainably sourced, lots of room to get all the running and playtime they need on her large lakefront property, and everything is clean and safe. She puts a lot of thought and care into each selective breeding and is very mindful of making the breed genetically better by the crosses that she makes. I am not big on social media or writing reviews but when there is something significant to say, either good or bad, I overcome my hesitation. Saffron is out 6 year old Standard Poodle. I am not writing a review on first impressions. She was a gift to me to help me deal with a serious diagnosis. My husband and sister were responsible for finding Celebrity, Pam and Saffron. Their experience with Pam and choosing Saffron was positive in every way. Pam helped to pick just the right dog and she sure was right on. It was only later that I got to meet Pam and her dogs. I was equally impressed. Now about Saffron: She is absolutely gorgeous and gets compliments everywhere she goes which is everywhere. She has traveled with me as an emotional support dog on many cross country flights from the time she was only 6 months old. She behaves perfectly on the plane. The most common remark I got from others on the flights were "I didn't know there was a dog on the plane, she is so well behaved" and of course "what a beautiful dog" which she gets everywhere. Saffie is "soft mouthed" she takes treats so carefully it is amazing to watch. She has been bothered by various hyperactive uncontrolled children in public places and without getting upset, puts herself in reverse gear and backs away. She is at home in every situation which is important because I take here everywhere. Of course a big part of this is that I am a perfect canine guardian but the other big part is that Pam breeds for not only beauty but equally for temperament. After months of research, I decided to go with Pamela DeLong of Celebrity Red Standards to find a service dog prospect puppy for my daughter. And, although she fluctuated between being very kind and dismissive/defensive, I tried to assume positive intent as she said she was willing to work with our special needs to help our daughter. I was SO wrong to ignore my gut instincts! Stay FAR away from this breeder if honesty means anything to you (I have saved all email & text communication and phone records/call logs and will share if anyone wants proof). She refused to tell me any identifying information regarding the 3 puppies we were going to meet - no names, no collar color, nothing to identify them. She refused to provide the results of the temperament testing for me to review with our trainer/behaviorist & would only give me an overview of there being 3 that were possibly slightly better options but really any of the 9 girls would be OK for us.The litter may have been unusually uniform in personality but picking a potential service dog is not like picking a pet. Based on the 7/23/19 birth date & following Jean Dodd's vaccination protocol, the puppies should have been ready for pick up no earlier than the week of 9/23/19. She repeatedly ignored my questions &, if she responded, would say something related to the puppies but not answering my questions. She called me on 9/7 to go over testing/evaluation results saying that all were very uniform but 2 or 3 girls stood out a tiny bit & neither boy was a good candidate. She said her friend had done the testing and she took notes (this is not valid temperament testing as there should not be anyone familiar in the room). During this phone call, when I questioned them being able to go to new homes the coming week with 7/23 DOB only making them 7 weeks old - too young for any responsible breeder to send them out, too young for valid temperament testing & much too young to be following Dr. Dodd's vaccine protocols - Pamela changed her story & said that they were born on 7/15, not 7/23 & another family had questioned her on that too so she must have just misspoken. This is an absolute lie, verified by my phone conversations with her on 7/18 (said they weren't born yet, call back in 1 week) & 7/26 (said they were born 7/23) as well as the text comment about just starting to open their eyes 8/8. She was lying & defensive when I pointed out the inconsistencies & failures to respond or provide photos & demanded I must simply trust her & if I couldn't then she would refund my deposit & I could go elsewhere. It felt very much like a pressure filled threat. Trust is earned, not demanded. On 9/10, Pamela texted "I might be able to have you come Sunday (9/15)" with no further details. I spelled out not only my previously requested information but pointed out that *I* was having issues with our communication & needed this info in order to process it before we went up to meet the puppies, and why I needed that (beyond it being standard practice for reputable breeders). I told her specifically why I needed the information in hand, not verbally or in the midst of puppy chaos with an anxious child where I could not process everything I needed to - in addition to the feeling that making me drive my child 3+ hours expecting to meet her future puppy felt very much like a used car salesman tactic. Instead of responding in writing, as I specifically requested, she insisted that we speak on the phone again (my requests for communicating in writing were to accommodate my own disability and she knew it but continued to disrespect it in order to control the conversation and bully me). In addition to failing/refusing to provide pictures/videos of the puppies, changing and lying about their age, not following the advertised and promised vaccine protocols, not following proper temperament testing procedures or providing results when requested, Pamela also refused to tell me the registered name of her stud, provide any form of proof of health & genetic testing for either the dam or stud (saying they didn't have CHIC numbers because she tested 2 months too early, which any competent breeder would not do) & became defensive when I contacted the breeder of the stud looking for information, telling me I had no right to contact her "partners" asking questions. On the afternoon of 9/14, she texted me asking if I was still intending to come the next day. I didn't see the text for 45 minutes & her next text said "I am sending your deposit back. Good luck."In hindsight I'm thrilled to not have to deal with one of her misrepresented dogs but this was a horrible & extremely unprofessional thing to do. I feel bad for the 11 owners of this litter who did not receive what they paid for. I would never recommend doing business with Pamela DeLong of Celebrity Red Standards. Take your money and heart to a legitimately honest and transparent breeder instead. read more

I have offspring of Pamela's dogs and I couldn't be happier. We have bred together in the past and probably will again. My black line includes dog she owns, and her red line has something from me. Pamela is one of those 'instinctive' breeders and evaluators, learning from the older and wiser breeders. And she has REDS which have holding color - not many red breeders can testify to that in their line. She has health and she also recently has show quality and titled dogs. We had three standard poodles previous to our encounter with Pamela at Celebrity Standards. She adheres to the highest standards of professionalism and has the well-being of her puppies as one of her highest considerations in placing them in a new home. If someone is living in a chaotic blur due to their own circumstances, they are not candidates to raise a healthy dog PERIOD As the caretaker of her puppies, Pamela is allowed to do whatever she feels is in THEIR best interests, not just give them over to anyone with the funds to cover the cost. I have worked with Pamela and her dogs for several years. As a vet tech, I have seen many canine situations. Pamela has ALWAYS taken the best interests of her dogs as well as potential adopters into consideration. I have worked very closely with her puppies as well as the adult dogs, even helping to deliver a litter. I was so saddened to see such an awful review of Pam. She treats all prospective placement families with the utmost respect and really tries tonensurenpropernplacement for all involved. Sometimes placement will not be in the best interest of all involved. Just because You want a dog doesn't mean you are a good fit. My daughter has had a service dog. It is not something you just pick a dog and do. One of Pamelas dogs even came to help my daughter after a lengthy hospital stay. This is very important, as not all puppies in a litter may or will be a fit for you, your family and lifestyle. Please note that if you have a special task or need for your dog, then it may be that no puppy in that litter will be a fit for your needs. This is true if you are looking for a performance dog in obedience, agility, retrieving, or conformation, etc. Finding a dog that will be a trained service dog is a challenge.
