Cedar Motor Inn is a cute, quiet hotel with a very rustic/cabin feel to it. It's an older hotel, and the furniture in the rooms is dated, but everything is in good shape and well maintained. My room was spotless, comfortable, and in very neat order. It was well stocked with everything I needed for a pleasant night's stay. The only thing it was missing was a microwave. I don't usually cook when I travel so this short coming didn't phase me. Centrally located, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. With an indoor pool and a hot tub, and Lake Superior less than ten minutes away, Cedar Motor Inn (which is indepently owned) is a bargain! I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Marquette. read more

Terrible customer service! Water stopped working in our hotel room. NO TOILET, SINK, OR SHOWER!! Front desk did not care and refused to even call manager or offer any type of discount or replacement room. Front desk said "it's just something that happens, Sorry." Followed by "if we refund people when things don't work, we wouldn't make any money." If you want to use a sink, toilet, or shower during your stay I STRONGLY suggest staying elsewhere. read more

I never thought I would get such great service at a motor Lodge in on the side of the road. This hotel has the greatest staff, who will make sure that your stay is the best it can possibly be. The rooms are well equipped although some might find them outdated but everything is clean and in good condition, so that does not bother me. I was flabbergasted to find out for the price we paid for the room how big they were that we all got refrigerators and microwaves, that there was a continental breakfast provided, and a pool hot tub in sauna! I had the best experience with Jody the office manager and Aaron the maintenance man, both went out of their way to help me out, and I really appreciate that, and them. read more

Good value, Friendly Staff, Good Hot Tub! Road tripping around Michigan and Wisconsin since I had never been to Michigan. What a cool trip of waterfalls, hiking and beautiful forested places! We checked in and there were no towels, but I visited the office and they remedied that quickly. There was some insane construction mess when we visited but it all worked out: I am aging the road construction is done by now. Located near some walk to dining like Buffalo Wild Wings if you don't want to drive anywhere. All in all a good stay and value for the price. Thanks guys! read more

For the price this place was decent. The room was a bit sticky because the windows were open and they only had the ac in the wall. The bed was also only a full sized bed. The shower also had an accordion door and was hard to move in because it was really small. There is also windows that are next to your bed that show the entire hallway but there are curtains. There was also some drama with the front desk and a delivery service when we got there. But I mean you can't expect too much with that price point! read more

The staff was very friendly. The room was clean. TV sucks, insufficient instructions and entirely across from beds. Hard to see and hear. This was a minor inconvenience since we weren't here to sit in the room all day. Biggest disappointment was the shower. It is VERY small. I'm not a big person but it was very difficult to bath. An information card in the room explaining everything would be helpful. Basic clean lodging with a few amenities most would expect. read more

I always love staying at cedar motor inn. We stay here everytime we come to Marquette for a quick trip. I will start off the staff is always friendly and very helpful. After checking in I didn't know that they added another building so we walked to another parking lot and found our room. We walked in and I liked that they are trying to update retro. But they design is awful. The TV is tiny and on the other side of the room from the beds. 2 lamps on the other side of the room so you can't have a light on easily in bed. Air conditioner still from the 80s and they didn't even patch the old holes in the wall before painting. I just feel if you are updating do it right... I get that they are still updating but before you raise the price of the room it should be finished. read more

We stayed in one of their suites for two nights. Huge room, perfect for two or three people. There is a pull out couch, however not super comfortable. The shower in these rooms is also quite small. Outdated, but perfect if you're just looking for an inexpensive place to stay. Very clean! The continental breakfast isn't much. Not far from the downtown area, and lots of dining options around. Do not stay at the Cedar Motor Inn Marquette Mi !!! We woke up this morning to some kind of rodent in our room. Then we discovered many of the animals droppings which we previously thought were stains on the carpet. An employee came to the room and said it was a gopher and simply apologized. Any type of rodent and it's droppings are very hazardous They did not think it was a big deal and offered 20 percent from our charge. This is unacceptable. read more

company booked us rooms to this place. our rooms look nothing like the ones in the pictures, seems like they have a very outdated side and a newly renovated side but only have pictures of the renovated side. We had to buy an air freshener to mask the smell of mold. There was a 30" TV in the room we were in. The back window of the room looks straight out to a child's playground. Really liked this place and am staying again. The pool area was great for gathering folks. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Location is nice. Parking is easy. Great bargain and experience. But... If you factor the breakfast as part of your experience and cost, it is a little disappointing. The breakfast does not compared well to other area hotels. I never saw eggs, bacon, pancakes or bisquits. It was pretty much laid out items. It was certainly done with care and attention but it was pretty sparse. Getting breakfast was also a little awkward. There was a staff member always standing right there watching what you take and replacing the item right away. They were nice but it felt a like you were being closely watched. read more

My family stayed here for one night on a 10 day road trip. I'm usually hesitant to stay anywhere but at a major hotel chain but I'm glad we did. This place was perfect. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They tracked down eating utensils for us when our Chinese takeout didn't come with any. Our room was huge, clean and comfortable. My children fell in love with the swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. When we were ready to move on to our next destination, our kids wanted to stay behind. We had a family emergency and had to find a motel quickly on a Saturday night. We called around and were offered a few rooms, choosing The Cedar Motor Inn. I specifically asked for a handicapped room as I am in a wheelchair. I was assured that we would be given one. The lady I talked to was very nice and the room was clean. That is the good. Now, the bad. When we entered the room the first thing we noticed that the bathroom door was way to small for a wheelchair to go through. Next, after my husband had to help me into the bathroom without my chair, there were no hand grips near the toilet. There was a shower chair in the tub (as requested) but, there was no non-slip grips on the floor of the shower / tub and the shower chair (and I) slid around a lot. There were hand grips in the shower. After showering we went to bed and the mattress was so hard that it felt like sleeping on the floor. You could not get comfortable in the bed AT ALL! We both woke up with SEVERE back pain from the mattress. We were very dissatisfied and when my husband tried to talk to the woman at the front desk in the morning she just ignored him and when the phone rang, just answered the phone and brushed him off. read more

I am a very introverted, low maintenance person, and it takes a lot for me to write this review. I have both positives and negatives, but overall it has been a negative experience. I will start from the beginning. My family and I arrived late one night for a 6 night stay. We stayed in the cottage suite. Right away we noticed the bedding in the pull out bed was used and asked for a replacement, which we got right away and it was fine. Handing over the dirty bedding by hand made me squeamish but given the limitations of stricter sanitation practices due to COVID, that wasn't a huge issue. Other than some odd hairs in the shower and bedding the place was very clean. TMI - we immediately clogged the toilet and realized the plumbing in the cottage is slow and old. My husband requested a plunger from the office. Not someone to help us, not anyone to clean, just a plunger so we could take care of it ourselves. He was given a side of attitude with the plunger. We eventually learned by ourselves that you need to hold the flush down to make sure it goes down the first time. Could use a sign in there as a heads up to avoid the awkwardness. Side note - can't say enough about the sauna and pool/hot tub. Very clean and well maintained. So nice to sit in the sauna after a long day of adventure. I wish they kept the pool towels consistently stocked though. And the soap in the pool shower has been empty for days. The continental breakfast is fine and there are a decent amount of options considering the limitations of the pandemic. The lady who served us our coffee and teas was very sweet and helpful. A couple days into our stay, our family of 4 had some sizable trash and dirty towels, including trash with dirty diapers that were stinking up our room. Due to the pandemic we were well aware we wouldn't get any housekeeping, but one of the ladies in the office mentioned we could request a "refresh" the following day when housekeeping was in. I didn't think to ask for clarification as to what that meant. But Ok. Great, we can totally wait. Following morning, I bring up our dirty trash and pile of towels to a new lady in the office. She explains that they aren't doing any housekeeping for overnights because of the pandemic. Which again is fine, I only was confused because I was told otherwise the night before. She was great though and wrote down our info to have our dirty towels picked up and replaced, and our trash thrown out. We got back that evening to find we had received new towels, but our dirty towels and bag of trash still lay exactly where we left them. I was starting to get a bit irritated. I went to the office and the gentleman seemed very busy. He mentioned just eating lunch. I was super sympathetic and explained our situation. He again told me about the pandemic, but I kept a smile on my face and asked if we could just have our trash taken out at least. I told him our room number. He handed me two large trash bags, said to put all our trash in and leave it outside our door and he would take care of it when he got the chance. Wonderful. Finally no more dirty diaper smell! I happily put the bag outside and we went to bed. This morning, the bag of trash was still there. We were running late to our pictured rocks tour and didn't have time to update the office that yet again, we were made a simple promise that wasn't kept. We came back this evening and the trash was still there, only now there were two massive crows picking at it right outside our door. This revolted me and I sent my husband to speak to the office because I didn't want to get upset. They told him, yet again, that they aren't doing overnight housekeeping during the pandemic. As if we didn't know by now. After suggesting my husband take it to the dumpster himself (which we would have done from day one had we known where it was) a gentleman finally came and threw it out. Needless to say we will not be asking for anything else from the office. I really, really wanted to love this place, and other than the above grievances, I do. Our bed is comfortable for the price. We have a nice mini kitchen and fridge and there are lots of great channels on tv. I think we would stay again, but NOT in the cottage suite, which feels more like the forgotten suite at this point. read more

Conveniently-located. Very friendly staff. Lively customer hang-outs in the halls and common areas led me to believe that this is a frequent stop for many regular vacationers. I didn't check out that sauna and pool area but if I had had more time I would have - sounded great! Took a bath instead. Plenty of hot water and nice clean tub for a good soak. The room smelled a bit of old cigarettes so I double-checked my sign: sure enough it was non-smoking. That was weird. Still, Great location and price. Also, they were able to change my reservation without any problem, just the day before, as I was in an accident and couldn't leave when I was supposed to. That is unusual these days. Very sad after staying here off and on for 30 years this has really gone down hill. The new owners bought this and two other hotels. Since this one has a hot tub and pool the other two hotels have access. Great to have 25 kids running around. What they did not have to do is take two out of the three ice machines out, perhaps to move to the other two hotels. I understand that the pandemic has caused issues, but not cleaning rooms for guests staying doesnt make sense. This is an air borne disease and they dont want people in rooms during cleaning anyway, why????? Not a great place to stay read more

No handicapped accommodations, in rooms or even grab bars. Some extremely small rooms requiring stepping sideways and backing sideways onto toilet. Air conditioner in one of our rooms did not adequately cool. In another room, a chair to stand on was needed to adjust air conditioner. Keys needed to access building and rooms. Keys stick in locks. Need second hand to turn knob, then need to push door. Pool sauna and hot tub are nice. If you go, insist on a large room, not the tiny rooms by the office. We called the front desk after a very long trip to ask a couple of questions and the person in reception was rude to us repeatedly, defensive and offensive at the same time. Based on the positive feedback, I can only guess that the owners have many friends and family writing reviews, or maybe the motel just attract people who don`t travel often. As a business traveler, I have stayed in hundreds of hotels; this is BY FAR the worst I have experienced. The room was dark and dank. There was a terrible odor that permeated my clothes and luggage to where I could smell the room when wearing my clean clothes. It was bad enough that when I opened the trunk of my rental car at the airport, the smell was the first thing I noticed. Even a day later, my luggage still reeks of whatever the odor was - some kind of a solvent that was covering up another smell? It was indescribable. If the smell wasn`t bad enough, the stained and greasy carpet was disgusting and required me to wear socks at all times. The toilet paper was not fitting for a prisoner; I actually had to buy some of better quality. The soap is the old fashioned type that is wrapped in paper. The walls are paper thin. The Wi-Fi password ended in 1967 presumably because that`s when the property was opened, and likely the last time the invested in it. The actually still use an old-fashioned metal key with a large plastic keychain. The mattress was rock hard and cheap, as were all of the decorations, bedding, etc. The shower was all of 3x3. I would barely turn in the shower without touching the walls. There was no tub (thankfully in this case). The door to the shower was an accordion style made of cheap vinyl, and the step up to get in was so high that after stubbing my toe twice, I had to lay towels across the threshold to prevent me from breaking a toe! The icing on the cake was the tacky envelop begging for a tip for the privilege staying in this dump. I`d write more but I have to wash all of the clothes that I took, including my brand new shirts - they reek! read more

This hotel is older but has charm and a friendly staff. The room and beds were very clean and comfortable; my husband said it was the most comfortable hotel bed he has used in a long time. The rates are lower for this hotel than others in the area. The pool was great! The free breakfast is coffee, cereal bars, some fruit and packaged pastry...okay for a quick grab and go but lacking compared to other hotels. I would recommend staying here if you want comfort, clean rooms, and don't need extra frills. read more

***public warning! do not stay at the cedar motor inn.***. new manager neeko provides zero hospitality** they will overcharge your card and refuse a refund!****neeko is a human being who's in the wrong business. my family has stayed at the cedar motor inn so many times over the past 7 years and always had a good experience. the hotel is under new ownership. the new owner and manager is a man named neeko who is quite threatening and not willing to discuss things like an adult. i'm not sure he can read correctly. we paid 299.08 and were to pay 1126.70 upon arrival. we were told that the 299.08 was just fees and were charged 1425.78. we have now paid 1724.68. neeko refuses to budge on these floating in the wind fees and is literally stealing our 299.08. if you want your money stolen and pay to be treated horribly by a man named neeko you've got the ripoff central right here at the cedar motor inn. read more

Dated room, located on a busy highway. If you have a dog, the only place they can relieve themselves is along the highway on a grassy patch. The chlorine from the pool/hot tub ruined my suit by bleaching it out. The breakfast is very basic, prepackaged food (possibly due to Covid). Overall it was clean and met our needs for a one night stay. We will likely explore other options in the area next time. read more

We stayed in one of their 2 small cottages which was so very comfortable. It was located right on a very busy road but is surrounded by beautiful trees. It had one queen bedroom with a very large closet. The living room had a fold out couch which was OK. I was most impressed with the cleanliness of the place. It was spotless. And it was pet friendly!! Two small complaints: the TV was really old and a fan to circulate air is needed in the bedroom. I will definitely stay here again. read more

I just had the worst experience with this hotel. There are two wings to this place, their website says 25 of the rooms in the new wing are renovated, we were unfortunate to get one of these rooms. They REAK of cigarettes. You had to climb over piles of literal garbage to get up the stairs to the room. There were dumpsters outside full of the same furniture that was in our room. Just the outside of the building alone looked like the slums. Maybe the other wing is way better but when I kindly went into the office saying "I hate to be this person but I can't stay in that room" I was greeted with so much attitude by who I am assuming is the owner since the other two people were the manager and clerk? He demanded to know why not and I explained I'd rather drive the 3 hours home than stay with my 8 month old in a filthy scary room. I of course was not offered a different room, any sort of discount, or a refund. I was trying to be nice at first but the one employee was SO rude I ended up loosing my temper and was out the $120. read more

Nice clean place but the staff was extremely unfriendly to motorcyclists. We're couples and older folks, not rowdy at all. This guy was literally harassing us the entire time and at one point threw a door open that I was standing behind so hard that if I didn't put my hand out it would've hit me in the face. This is a decent motel. About 10 minutes to Marquette's center and NMU campus. The room was pretty big and clean without having that sterile/hospital feel. the bathroom also pretty spacious and clean, additional sink just outside the bathroom. The person at the front desk was friendly. There were free light snacks for breakfast. One thing that would have been useful - a small fridge in the room. Also the TV was old and made high-pitch sound from time to time. Considering the price, not a bad alternative to more expensive hotels. read more

Chose to stay here after reading reviews and finding out it was family owned, glad I did. I could've payed more and stayed at a larger place but I will stay here every time I'm in Marquette, the rooms were spacious and clean, and very affordable.
