We stayed here Labor Day weekend and from the moment we arrived to checkout everything was pretty much perfect. The front desk staff quickly checked us in, went over all the amenities, salt water pool, jacuzzi, gym, breakfast and pet friendly restaurants nearby. This Hampton Inn waterfront and is just 2 blocks from restaurants, variety shops and a boardwalk with spots to dock your boat if needed. They are pet friendly and even accept ELEPHANTS as we heard them stomp around the floor on the second floor above our room. Don't let the elephant that disturbed our stay keep you from booking this fantastic Hampton Inn. You will be happy you chose this location over their competition on the busy hwy (even with an elephant on premises, LOL) read more

We chose this hotel for our first visit to Marquette solely for its lakefront location and the availability of a lake view room. We were in the area for a low key, non-outdoor stay - visiting local museums, getting a feel of the area, seeing the fall color, and spending time in our room relaxing between outings enjoying the view of Lake Superior. The location was what we expected. It was a short drive to the downtown restaurants, but not a reasonable walk for us. The hotel does not have a bar or restaurant, which we were aware of. The breakfast was acceptable - typical continental breakfast items with the addition of chafing dishes of prepared eggs, potatoes, and sausage/bacon. The breakfast area/shared space has a nice view of the lake. The room was a decent size, with a king bed on the interior wall and the sofa and desk placed on the walls perpendicular to the large window. The view of the lake was unobstructed. It was the view we were planning to enjoy. Upon arrival at 7 pm, a sign posted on the front desk informed us that all the water would be turned off for 5.5 hours (10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) for three consecutive days - the day we arrived, our only full day, and the day we departed. It was too late to try to find another hotel or to make different plans for which days we would be in Marquette. We ended up spending 5 hours the next day driving around looking for things to do and having an early meal rather than being able to come back to our room to take a break, enjoy the lake view and fall colors during the day, and then head out for a leisurely evening meal. Upon checkout I shared our concern and disappointment with the front desk clerk, who then got the manager. The manager was dismissive of the water being an inconvenience and stated that we didn't HAVE to leave our room during the 5.5 hours the water was unavailable. She claimed they had no way to inform guests prior to arrival, that it was unplanned, and with 84 rooms it was not possible to do so. She never once offered an apology or even acknowledged that not having water in the entire hotel for over 5 hours was an inconvenience to the guests who actually had plans to be in their room. Despite the sticker on the front desk claiming 100% satisfaction guarantee or they'll make it right, no effort was made to do so, or even an apology preferred. Her defensive attitude, combined with the almost flippant verbiage of the signs around the hotel and in the rooms made us question whether the guests' comfort and experience even matter. read more

We were very happy during our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. Beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good. We all enjoyed the view of Lake Superior as we were eating breakfast. Also liked the hot chocolate and the cookies. We'll be staying here next spring, when we're in town for a graduation. read more

Nice spot on the shore of Lake Superior. Staff was excellent. Very clean and well managed. Nice deck overlooking the harbor. Pool and hot tub are a nice touch. Fitness room is better than most Hamptons. Our room was really comfortable. The place is newer so everything is up to date. Plugs everywhere. Bathroom counter large and the storage areas there was a great idea. Breakfast the past 18 months has not been good at hotels. This one was awesome. Whoever was cooking and preparing and serving these past couple days deserves a medal. Thank you. The only downside is that there's construction in the area. But that I would think will be done soon. Overall this is a very comfortable spot, and an easy walk to many nice establishments in downtown Marquette. We will be back read more

We had a two-night reservation here, but hit something on the highway, had a tire blowout and couldn't make it there for the 1st night. We had our tire replaced the next morning and did make it there for the 2nd night, but unfortunately the General Manager "Tracey M. Pederson" showed us no compassion whatsoever and compounded our hardship by charging us in-full for the night we couldn't get there for. Marquette, MI is a beautiful area with lot of great hotels. You would be better served staying in one where their employees are nice unlike this one!! read more

I was looking forward to staying here as I wanted to enjoy the lake after spending my time driving across the UP looking at forests either side of the road. I booked this hotel through Priceline. It was the most expensive hotel available, but I assumed it had the best view of the lake. Things started to go downhill at check in. We were told that the room we purchased was in the basement and looked over a pool. Sensing this was going to be an awful room for us, I asked about changing the room. I was told that was not possible. I then asked about a paid upgrade, could I pay to get a better room? I was told no. At this point tired from the 500 mile road trip and it being late, I just accepted it and focused on dinner. Upon returning from the restaurant and spending time in the room, I really started to hate it. I am not claustrophobic, but this room felt like a cave, poorly lit. The wifi didn't work, the code that I was provided, and it was back to the front desk. I didn't get a good night's sleep. Next morning we tried to look at the lake. The back of the hotel is fenced off for some construction project. We weren't the first people beat a path around the construction barrier to get to the water. Another disappointment. Getting some coffee in the morning, I noticed that the front desk had a big sticker on it, I think it was blue, that offered a satisfaction guarantee, money back if you were not satisfied. I certainly wasn't so I planned to ask for my money back on the way out of the hotel. The person at at checkout heard by my request for a refund under this guarantee and why I wasn't a satisfied customer. She had no power to take care of this issue. It would have to be referred to the manager. I didn't have time to wait around for the manager, so I set off on my road trip. I heard later that the manager called and stated I could not have a refund because I had used a third party service, Priceline. This is simply not true. I've stayed at one other hotel that I booked through Priceline that offered this same satisfaction guarantee. They refunded Priceline and Priceline refunded me. So it can be done. This manager is in my opinion dishonest for refusing to honor the posted satisfaction guarantee. So overall a horrible experience in the stay and the service, particularly the poor, dishonest management. read more

This is a FANTASTIC property. It's right on the water, it's brand spanking new, and it's beautiful! Check-in: Staff here are consistently prompt and friendly. Check-in process is always a breeze. Each time, they did forget my water & snack for being a diamond member, though... Room: The first time, I was upgraded to an executive room where the room was the size of 3 NYC studio apartments. There was a long table in the middle of the room separating the bed area from the living area- fully equipped with outlets for working and a flat screen TV (I uploaded some photos from this room). Do NOT book the "beach level" as this is in the basement by the pool.. very humid and a little too warm, even with the AC on. Fitness Center: It's fairly large. It has weights, medicine balls, mats, treadmills and elipticals. Breakfast: typical "meh" Hampton Inn breakfast, but the view from the dining area makes up for it! You have a killer view of Lake Superior from a beautiful dining room with multi-dimension tables (high and low tables throughout the area) and it is just stunning. You will NOT want to leave! Parking: free surface parking- you do have to provide your car make/model/color to the front desk when you check-in. read more

We love everything about this hotel! Friendly staff, room was extremely clean. At check in, we were told that due to COVID concerns, housekeeping would come to our room only upon request (which was greatly appreciated). Room decor is clean and updated, bathroom was immaculate. Best of all, there was almost no noise from people walking through the hallway or upstairs. I'm a light sleeper so sound abatement is greatly appreciated. No breakfast bar due to COVID, but they had fruit, muffins, granola bars and water pre-packed for guests to take as a "to-go". Will definitely return!! read more

Great hotel! My husband booked us a three night stay so we could be as close to the lake as possible! It's beautiful! Very clean! Very knowledgable and helpful staff. Their pool is salt water which is nice, however it was supposed to be at 86 degrees and our entire three night stay it was almost frigid, we mentioned to multiple staff whom all said it was to be very warm and they would check and fix it, and to our disappointment every time we went down it was still cold, we ended up in the hot tub. They have a decent workout room this if nice to use. It's a very nice location that is within walking distance to most of the downtown area restaurants and shops. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and plan on spending the extra money again when we come I to town next to stay off the lake again in one of their lakefront view rooms. Their front desk staff was very helpful and knowledgable on any questions we had. We had one issue on our second night with the people above us keeping us up most the night and waking up our daughter from them being so loud. We expressed our disappointment as it was happening as well as the next morning and they took care of the issue above and beyond! For that reason alone we will be back soon! read more

You can't beat the views and location to downtown at this Hampton Inn. It the only hotel (other than the historic Landmark Inn) right downtown and also the only Hilton brand hotel in all of Marquette. The staff has always been amazing, all areas are very clean, indoor pool that overlooks the lake! The hotel is nice and the room I got was clean. However, I drew the short straw and they stuck me in room 1014. This is the room directly under the breakfast area and the public restrooms. It is the worse room in the building, unless you like someone constantly stomping on the ceiling. Unfortunately, this location doesn't look at the Hilton profile before assigning the room. High floor means higher than the basement. read more

The Hampton Inn Waterfront has some really strong positives but some extremely awful negatives. For starters, the parking situation while not ideal anywhere near downtown Marquette is not managed well, if at all. I recently completed a 6 night stay here (it was the only Hilton in the area) and on every attempt to park my rental car both handicapped spots were taken, as were the "Diamond Member" (of which I am a part) sometimes by what looked like shuttle vans. The "business center" is charitably nothing more than a fishbowl right off the lobby. The two computers are crammed into what I imagine used to be a closet now with the added benefit of having monitors that face out in full view of the lobby with no real way to have any privacy. I was working on some financial forms (nothing nefarious) and was uncomfortable doing so. The front desk is a nightmare. Thankfully I was able to skip the check in process entirely but my sister was appalled that the desk clerk was so unprofessional. The rooms were adequate in size, nothing special. Now onto the great things: housekeeping is just wonderful, they were always friendly and courteous. Other than the front desk the staff were all amazing. The young woman who runs the breakfast bar -- I wish I had written down her name -- I would march into Hampton corporate and say promote her, let her run the front desk, something. How anyone can be perky and upbeat at 6AM is beyond me but she definitely has it figured out. And then there is the view of Lake Superior from the cafeteria. Breathtaking at sunrise. In the end it is overpriced but it is not without its merits. read more

Our stay was outrageous and we will not recommend this property to anyone. Ever. Woken up at 445 am when breakfast prep began. Both mornings. This has got to be the noisiest room on property (1021). This room should come with a disclaimer that you will be awakened at 500am. I had to unplug our refrigerator yesterday due to the high pitch whistling noise it made. This really added to our"no sleep" experience. Upon check in Friday night there was no place to park. The hotel website says trailer parking is not allowed but both nights a bus with a trailer was parked taking up 7-9 parking spots. We had to park "illegally" and hope not to get backed into. The rack rate for our room was 350.00/night. The room was meh. Nothing special. Clean yes- but it should be. Highly disappointing. Unless you don't want to sleep. Or you don't need to park. Or you don't mind paying 350.00/night for lake access in October. No value. No sleep. No internet downstairs. Rooms do not look like the do on website. No parking. read more

Hampton Inn Marquette is a solid hotel for any business traveler. The rooms are clean and spacious with helpful little details like a decent-sized in-room refrigerator and extra outlets on the bedside table to plug in phones and other electronic devices. The complimentary breakfast served in the lobby was decent, serving omelets, bacon, sausage, bagels, bread, and pastries. All of the common areas looked exceptionally clean and well-maintained. My room was in the basement, which was a little surprising to hear checking in. Being on the ground floor, though, at the back of the room there was actually a sliding door opening to a small concrete porch featuring a small table and two chairs overlooking the water. The downside of my room, though, is that I could hear the footsteps of folks in the lobby as early as 6am when the breakfast bar opened. Unless you're making plans to utilize the porch, I would recommend getting a room on a higher (i.e., non-basement) floor. I also thought the hotel towels were a little rough--to the point of causing some mild skin irritation. Of course a clean towel is appreciated, but these were bordering on outright uncomfortable to use. read more

This hotel made our weekend trip in Marquette an absolute dream! My husband and I have stayed in countless hotels all over the world, and this is by far the most exceptional Hampton Inn we've ever encountered. We were in a beautiful, quiet, corner room, with a stunning lake view (Totally worth any price difference) and the front desk staff- Especially Helen- made us feel welcomed and extremely comfortable. We were part of a wedding group and the hotel really went above and beyond to make our stay so great. Make sure to get a view and a higher up room, the 2nd or 3rd if you can! read more

This hotel is not worth the price , I was disappointed in the room it was small for having 2 queen beds the toilet did not flush properly, the water pressure was low and the tub did not drain . I told the front desk, they stated they were unable to give us another room because they didn't have another one with 2 queen beds available and made no attempt to give us a voucher or refund . The rooms and the property itself are clean. I understand that there is a lot going on with COVID restrictions etc but the breakfast is sub par and since the pool is closed, the property shouldn't be charging a premium for pool front rooms. With that said, we did do 2 stay overs because of the lack of decent hotels in the area. The staff was friendly. read more

I am a dedicated first reponder here for work, and I work night shifts. Upon returning from work in the morning, I was not able to enter my room with either the physical or digital key. The battery was the obvious culprit, yet the staff kept insisting it was the keys, so they made me make 4 trips back and forth to the front desk. I am on the road and in hotels over 150 nights per year, and when this has happened in the past (rare), the hotel staff has the knowhow to change the battery on the spot, or at least have maintenance available to change the battery immediately. However, this staff was incapable of such action. Their proposed solution was to have me wait hours for a maintenance person to come, when all I wanted and needed to do was sleep before my next shift. Hours later, they still had not corrected the problem. The staff failed to show any accountability, ability, or empathy at all. Instead, the General Manager, Reed Benton, insisted that this is an expected circumstance that all guests should reasonably accommodate. We communicated exclusively by phone when I was in a private location away from the lobby or any other guests. He lacked any professionalism, was rude, and did not offer any solutions. Since he did not have a solution, he threatened to kick me out of the hotel. His only solution was for me to seek other accommodations, and he literally harrassed me incessantly for hours by room and cell phone when I finally was able to get into my room and I was trying to sleep before my next shift. I have repeatedly asked for the owner to contact me, as I completely lost all sleep today before my evening work shift, but I have yet to hear back from this person. This is unprecedented for any Hilton or Marriott property. Why do they feel that it is unreasonable to want to be able to access a room that you have paid for to be able to rest? The owner, please call me ASAP. read more

I got the open house tour this summer when they first opened so I got to see the best of the best in this building. Impressive is the one word I would choose to describe it. The architecture is appropriate, interior decorating is high class, and the view is breathtaking. Right in the heart of downtown Marquette on lakefront property, with an attached boardwalk in front of the old ore dock, it just doesn't get any better. I would rather stay here with this view that a 5 star in a big city. Some of my favorite parts are the elegant commons, the excellent placement of the swimming pool to view the lake, and the large picture type windows in the corner suites. Just beautiful. Too bad I'll never afford a night here :( read more

This is one of the nicest Hampton Inns I've stayed at. It is very new, very clean, in a great location. The hotel staff are friendly and prompt. The rooms are comfortable and quiet with some stunning views of Lake Superior. It is within walking distance of downtown Marquette, which makes it easy for dinner/drinks. There is ample parking. There is a large breakfast area, and the food is quite good (standard free hotel breakfast food, but a nice selection and very fresh). They also have coffee and cookies available throughout the day. The prices are a bit high for a Hampton Inn, and for northern Michigan in general, but I think it is justified after staying here. If I'm in the area, this is my choice now. read more
